  1. How long until the first attack on an emo/goth freaky weirdo on the grounds that "they're all the same"?

Already been done, not because of a link to sexual deviancy but for the simple fact of being an emo/goth for that reason alone. Anyone that's different must be a bit wierd to some unfortunately hence why most people appear remarkably similiar until you get to know them intimately

  2. I wonder about the biology of all this.

We've evolved to be protective and nurturing towards our young (it even works with our attitude to other species - most people will go "aaaah" at the sight of baby animals - it's the big eyes that do it, according to the psychologists).

So deliberate cruelty to children is the ultimate taboo - hence the massive outrage that we feel at cases like this. But that (I'm guessing) also makes it the ultimate buzz for someone with a psychopathic personality, who prides themselves on being 'evil'.

But then, going back to the animal kingdom, it's not uncommon for (say) male lions to routinely kill cubs that aren't 'theirs' - it's evolutionarily advantageous to do so. Happens in a great many species.

So much for nature. What about nurture?

Well let's face it, if you come from a dysfunctional background, there's a good chance you'll grow up dysfunctional - most child abusers were themselves victims of child abuse.

Throw class A drugs, ready access to hardcore porn, and the celebrity culture into the mix, and you've got a very dangerous situation.

Which is why it is imperative that we learn to understand these cases. Yes, the perpetrators must be kept from repeat offending, but simple revenge is ultimately pointless. Of course the main sympathy must go to the victim rather than the criminal, but you have to ask yourself - what made this guy so ****ed up that he behaved like that?

Am I appalled by all this? Yes?

So I pity the victims? Yes, of course.

Do I pity the the offenders? In a way, yes, I do. Who would want to live in their world?

one of the few level approaches i have read on thia thread. remember not everyone who has convictions has commited a crime also, it is naive to have blind faith in a system that has been wrong at various times in history. i take everyone at face value and despise vigilantes as cancers of morality

  3. MJ

Took to page 6 for him to get a mention, wow, he's number one for me. How anyone can compare Michael Jordan to Ronnie O'Sullivan is beyond me. Messi is up there no doubt, but it's so hard to compare sports, you'd have to say the more popular sports should hold a heavier weighting due to the the greater number of opponents and direct competition. Jordan takes it for me though, to win 3 championships in a row, take a season and a bit out to play minor league baseball and come back and win another 3 in a row that's some going. Faced a lot of great nba players too and beat them all and has about $700m to show for it.

sorry but why can't they be compared, yet you then try to compare a footballer with a basketball player? As you say it's hard to compare sports but make no reason that suggests why o'sullivan isn't in the same category as another top sportsman

  4. Trainspotters

I wonder what these types get out of there hobby, it's a real bizarre choice to stand on platform just right down a few digits in a notebook

i think they love trains in a way that some people like planes or cars. some people take time to go to airports or exclusive parts of london for their equivalent of trainspotting. i like planes and cars and i've been to the nec and airshows, but going about it like a regular hobby is a bit ott.

  5.

I'm going for Costa Rica, only because of Costa Coffee and coffee is kind of murky in appearance, quite a strange logic I know

    That is strange logic  ;)

Costa Rica is actually Spanish for "Rich Coast" but can also mean "Pleasant Coast"

Of course, Costa means coast, I feel like an idiot right now

  6. I have just watched some footage of the Phillipine storm on the news, what's more shocking was the level of deforestation depicted from the ariel shots. It's the man made environmental disaster that I found to be the real visual tragedy, absolutely disgusting how a lush tropical country can end up like that, after a bit of research I found less than 7% (declining rapidly) of the rainforest is left intact with many endemic animals such as the Phillipine Monkey Eating Eagle teetering on the edge of extinction.

  7. I'd be up for a chess league if someone can set one up, I love the game. I watched one of the condensed youtube games from the world finals last night in fact, ended in a draw that particular one did. I've spent many an evening playing my dad, considering he's dyslexic he has a massive advantage on me if we were to add up all the games we've played and won, he must have a tactically aware brain to make up for his lack of the 3 R's. You can only pick the game up with experience and sticking to some main principles.

Attack weak areas of the board

    Defend your strengths

Don't get caught up completely attacking or defending

Pawns are important pieces, people often sacrifice them like they have no value

    Be subtle

  8. So they're not moving too far from the original?

Looks like it will be a different story with a lot of the original robots, the original one wasn't a cheesy film unlike Nos 2,3 & if I remember a 4th. I think this will be a much more rounded film like the original

  9. There's a chance he may just think Bowery is good enough, if that shot he hit yesterday nestled in the top corner very few of these posts would be written. I haven't seen enough of him to think he's a write off

  10. I've seen the released trailor for the upcoming release of the new Robocop, looks exciting. I loved the films as a kid, used to scare me to death when I'd watch Murphy go into the disused warehouse and get blown to bits, the first one was easily the best but this new one looks like it's had plenty of budget and will do it justice

  11. Spurs- you have to love em. Every bloody year they get their journo mates to talk them up and persuade the simple people that this year they can really challenge for the title. Er, maybe not. 4th at best, more likely 5th again. Suprised over City, I thought they might be putting on their title face by now but seems they are throwing it away.

Everyone else seems to buy it as well which is annoying. Bale made the whole team look much better than they were last year and the players they've bought are very decent (except Soldado) but not really from the top drawer. They'll outperform my expectations if they get top 4 this year, against us in the league there was very little between the teams apart from fortune favouring them and that's without Benteke and Clark who make a (big) difference

  12.

Does anybody in the world actually like Phil Collins?

    Great soundtrack for American Psycho

Bad soundtrack by a bad artist for a bad film of a bad book by a bad writer.

It's a quality film, or by bad do you actually mean top class

  13. He'll be back on his goalscoring trail soon enough I'm sure. Reading the Arsenal forum his stock has clearly devalued in their eyes, not a bad thing this perception as I wouldn't fancy our chances of continuing our progress next year if he goes

  14. Would love to live in america on the west coast somewhere for a while, Seattle, San fran or LA. Would love to experience it. Saying that I'd like to go to Florida Keys or Boston as well, then there is Chicago, Minneapolis and a few others. Basically any big city in the US.

I wouldn't recommend LA, reminds me of a middle east city all the white buildings surrounded by desert, San Francisco is wicked though. Similiar climate to the UK because of the mountainous terrain surrounding the city it has a much cooler micro climate than the surrounding California state. LA is not the place I expected it to be like, everything is better on the TV than in reality, Beverly Hills was full of tramps, drug addicts, their dealers, prozzies, just generally a skanky place where people with nothing go to leech/get expoited off the rich. Place made my skin crawl a bit like girls of the playboy mansion

  15. Yeah certainly opinions differ, I thought Sylla was useless until the change late in the game and I thought Westwood wasn't bad without being particularly good. Lambert did his job better in this game than I've given him credit for in previous games with his change of tactics in the second half.

  16. Lambert must have belief in him, he wouldn't use him out of sympathy and I think Lambert brings him on to encourage him and let him know that he has faith that he has the potential to play at the top level. He did look tidier on the ball when he came on today too, sometimes I've thought he looks clumsy and like he doesn't know what he's doing with the ball at his feet
