  1. I completely agree with every word of your post. I shall not have to make the tough decision of whether to renew my season ticket any more: The club have done it for me. Away games only for me this year.
  2. This is getting out of hand now. With fans like us I'd be worried about taking the job too. Nobody seems to be making a circus out of the Chelsea managerial vacancy. Fellow Villans I implore you to ignore the media, don't get drawn into the farce, and stop trying to run the club. We'll end up being the most deluded and derided fans in the country, ready to be universally laughed at if we're relegated just like the Geordies were.
  3. Dear General, Thank you for your post. Keep up the silence and the wisdom. 40,000 people could not reach a consensus in any Utopia. The media are very uncool. Most Villans I know, and I know a lot of sensible ones, are very grateful to have Randy Lerner and the team. Personally I couldn't care less about the new shirts, and I am only interested in the new sponsor if we are currently losing income for the club. As for Stewart Downing, all those people who are now so worried about the possibilty of him leaving, why weren't they singing his name all season? Of course I hope he stays, and of course I hope Moyes is our new manager, and of course if both happened I'd run a mile squealing with delight. But I am NOT going to let YOU know that; just let you get on with your job. Bolg :winkold:
  4. General, Last week you kindly gave me a personal response to a post in which I explained why it would be hard for me to renew my season ticket. When I heard today that Steve McLaren is a possibility for the manager's job I thought: well that will help me make up my mind about that season ticket! I hate the fact that I have posted this, and I hate that my, and other similar, comments may have an influence on what the board decide. Advice is a dangerous gift, especially from those who are too emotionally involved in the decision to see what would be the best choice for the club as a whole. Furthermore we fans are delusional to think we should be running the club; this is how Newcastle fans got their team relegated two years ago. However this board is about listening to us and I do appreciate that gesture, as I am sure we all do. I just had to state my opinion. I am Villa Till I Die... I'm just a bit skint these days.
  5. Dear General, Thank you for your direct reply. I really do appreciate tha fact that you listen to the thoughts of the everyday supporter like myself. I will definitely try to renew my ticket, unless you appoint Steve Mclaren! :winkold: Would love to hear your thoughts on FIFA, and the Blatter press conference yesterday. I thought it was a sinister whitewash!
  6. Dear General, I thank you for your reply to my comment about the direction of the club. You made some good points, and I'd like to echo how great it felt to finish in the top half of the league; highest of all the Midlands clubs; to finish off the season by beating Arsenal and Liverpool. Reasons to be cheerful for sure. However I am struggling to pay for next season's ticket both financially and in terms of my time: I shall be having a baby daughter in September, I already live 2 hours drive away from Villa Park and work shifts which prevent me from coming to numerous games. The cost of living is going up yet I have had my pay frozen for two years. The cost of a season ticket is also going up. I am having to seriously consider whether I can keep coming to the Villa, and that is very depressing. With all that in mind can you empathise with the common fan's frustrations? On a (vaguely) related note, did you see the Lord Alan Sugar documentary broadcast on British TV about the state of football finances, wherein he stated that the biggest problem for the game is players wages? Do you agree? (Having heard my tale of woes try and guess what I think!)
  7. Dear General, I just wanted to leave a simple note to show how I feel, and speak for many of my Villan friends: If Houllier stays, and Bent leaves, I will despair. One is a fool, the other a genius. Please get rid of the fool and keep hold of the genius. You know where we are going as a club. Bolg
  8. I back the Ghost Riders campaign. I've thought it should be our anthem for ages. Don't know any other team that uses that chorus. Also, to the tune of "chanson d'amour" Jean Deux Makoun Rat ta tat ta tat From Cameroon He plays for Villa Rat ta tat ta tat Jean Deux, Jean Deux, Makoun It makes me smile anyway Can we please have an original Darren Bent song though?
  9. I shall go against the majority here: The lead article is totally contrary to my perspective and smacks of blind faith. Not to mention a huge dollop of 'Emperor's New Clothes'. I prefer facts. Since GH has been in charge we've beaten 4 teams: Blackburn (lgcup), Wolves, Burnley (lgcup) and Blackpool. Played 14: W 4, D 4, L 6. We are 16th in the league. There has been a plummet in the form of our centre halves, who were both good enough to be universally praised last season. There has been almost no fight nor unity or team spirit to behold, with the exception of the second half against Manure. Since his arrival there has been a deluge of injuries, coinciding with his new training regime. He insulted us on Monday night. He has no reason to love Aston Villa. He insulted us on Monday night. He thought Pires would be a good acquisition, and actually played him against Blackburn away. He is old, and has been out of management for several years. He insulted us on Monday night. He insulted us on Monday night. He insulted us on Monday night. Just because we get behind the team doesn't mean we believe we're always going in the right direction. Conversely, just because I want this manager out does not make me a 'fickle fan'. VTID. Just get rid of this awful bloke, please.
