Just spotted this in the Mail: The Birmingham Mail understands the condition of the pitch has started to deteriorate simply because of the age of it. The current structure was originally laid 12 years ago and is now thought to be getting past its sell-by-date and in need of a new construction. It cost in the region of £700,000 when it was installed in the summer of 2006 by Preston-based company, PSD. The pitch is 97 per cent natural grass and three per cent DESSO, which are artificial turf fibres to hold it all together. It is reseeded every summer. The pitch is really dense, with the grass cut to 23mm so it is a fast surface, but despite the best efforts of the groundstaff the surface has become bobbly in places.

Speaking to the staff at Villa Park a couple of weekends ago, our award winning groundsman was head hunted by PSG in 2013 and his understudy at the time is now in charge, since then we have continued to win awards, in the season we got relegated, we won the award for the best pitch in the football league. Last season we won best pitch in the EFL. While there they had the pitch covered and lighting rigs, they had reseeded the pitch and the setup created a green house effect. They mentioned the fact the rain had really impacted the pitch in the last month .

Hi all, I have been lurking on the site for years, but decided I wanted to get involved a little more and add to this great forum. I am a big Villa fan as well as spending lots of time with modified cars. I currently own two new Mini's, a 300bhp turbocharged 2.0 Mini Cooper S and a supercharged Mini R53 Cooper S.
