Didn't Fortress take a chunk of Bordeaux?

Do Barca owe that money to Wes Edens?

Bordeaux arranged with their creditors to receive a lower amount in order to retain their league status - could Wes have agreed to write off some of what Barcelona owe to Bordeaux in order to help them with some of the money they owe Liverpool for Coutinho?

Barca are scum. The very worst of the worst of football's stinking entitled greed.

Barca do still owe money for Malcom, but to a 'financial institution' not to Bordeaux. Presumably Bordeaux cashed in on the money up front with a bank because of their financial issues.

  2. Asamoah Gyan has flown into the south-east of England on Sunday to evaluate a number of offers from English clubs.

The 30-year-old Ghana striker is the subject of interest from Sunderland,Fulham and several other Championship sides over a season-long loan from Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan, who spent two years at Sunderland until a move to UAE club Al Ain in 2012, says he is back to prove himself in England and will not necessarily choose the Premier League over the Championship.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "I have a lot of options. Me and my agent are here to evaluate them and get the work done, and then I can continue doing what I do best, which is scoring goals and playing well.

"I am confident I will have a club in England. There are good options to think about, so we had to fly in quickly. Me being in England means there is something concrete, so we need to evaluate the options and do the work.

"I heard about Sunderland and Fulham but we will see what happens. There might be surprises. Football is full of them. The people around me are trying to benefit me. It doesn't matter if it is Championship or Premier league, it's about being comfortable where I am.

"Sunderland is a good club. It was unfortunate I didn't play for many years there. I had to leave and that is football. Sometimes you stay for a long time at a club and then other times you go. I just want to prove myself again in England. I am ready to go.

"I went to the Middle East but I was scoring goals for the national team and in the world cup. I don't regret it at all and now I am back to prove myself again. Maybe it is my destiny to be back to the Premier League or the Championship.

"Maybe we will make a decision tonight, or tomorrow."

    Unpredictable loan?

  3. Murray continuing his bum of the month club. I understand he's trying to adjust to a new weight but his fights at super middle have done nothing for him.

Adjusting to the move up from middleweight... by fighting middleweights. Nice one, Ed.

Anyway, looking forward to McDonnell-Kameda II tonight. I fancy Jamie to squeeze another close decision.

  4. Anyone remember on one the Hatton undercards a few years ago, there was a fight with Michell (West ham fan, forget first name) and some bald headed bloke and it was a brawl. Don't suppose anyone can remember that fight?

Sounds like the Carl Johanneson fight which took place on the Haye-Maccarinelli card.

  5. Vyacheslav Senchenko frankly isn't very good and was a paper champ, he fought a load of nobodies and was gifted his WBA strap anyone that get's KO'd by Malignaggi has serious chin problems.

I don't really think you can count a stoppage based on swelling against his chin.

Off the top who has returned to boxing from at least 3 years out of the game and won a title in the modern era? I got Ray Leonard and George Foreman, Hatton was never anywhere near the class of those two.

There aren't many but I think the real key is that those 2 didn't abuse their bodies like Hatton has in his time off.

  6. Kimbo Slice vs Roy Jones jr in Jamaica at some point later this year. CguHc.gif

Roy was one of the greatest of all time, imagine what his legacy would have been like if he retired after winning the heavyweight title? Now he will just be remembered as a freak show who went on far too long.

Could be worse, Jesse Owens was reduced to racing against horses to make money.

It's a different thing entirely. Jesse Owens was an amateur sprinter, Roy Jones jr has (conservatively) earned $100m from boxing and given how good he was at his peak, he will always be able to get a gig in the media talking about the sport. He doesnt need the money.

I'm not sure about that. It was reported not long ago that he's got a very big tax bill. The kind that I'm not sure his gig at HBO covers. How anyone could spunk that amount of money is beyond me though.

  7. The reason I say this is because there are already calls for a rematch based on the last round, ignoring the fact that Chavez lost 1-11.

The fight sold well, that's why both sides were talking it up. Although that's looking less likely now with Junior testing positive for Marijuana. Another example of his lack of professionalism.

A good night ahead of us tomorrow with Burns vs Mitchell and Frampton vs Molitor.

I think Burns will win a fairly comfortable decision. I think Mitchell will have a lot of problems closing the gap. I don't like Molitor's chances against Frampton. He looked very faded last time out, and got a bit of a gift really. He should stick around for the final bell though.

Selby vs Lindsay and McCloskey vs Perez aren't bad fights either!

  8. Lopez was an awfully matched opponent. I can't give Canelo any credit for the win really. What makes it worse is that Lopez only got $212k, compared to Alvarez's $2m.

I would have loved to have seen him in against Williams. What a shame.

Buster Douglas netted $48K for KO Mike Tyson, and Tyson made something like $8M for getting knocked out...sad.

You don't get what you deserve in boxing, you get what you negotiate.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, and rapper 50 Cent, are going to move forward with a joint promotional venture - according to Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz.

In an earlier story, multiple sources advised BoxingScene that TMT Promotions, the promotional company recently started by 50 Cent, was already closing shop.

Back in July, 50 Cent announced the formation of TMT Promotions, and quickly signed Yuriorkis Gamboa, Billy Dibb, Celestino Caballero and Andre Dirrell. He also obtained a promoter's license in New York, and submitted paperwork to get a license in Las Vegas.

There was talk of friction between 50 Cent and Mayweather, but never confirmed.

The lawyer for featherweight champion Billy Dib was reportedly advised by attorney Sekou Gary, that "50 Cent was no longer in boxing" and his promotional contract was being moved to Mayweather Promotions. Gary represented Gamboa when he left Top Rank for TMT. He currently represents James Kirkland in his lawsuit against Golden Boy.

Gary declined comment when reached Wednesday night by BoxingScene.com.

Koncz tell BoxingScene that Pacquiao and 50 Cent are going to come together to form their own promotional company, and Mayweather was initially discussed as a partner - but he doesn't appear to be involved.

"50 Cent and I have been talking now for maybe the last two months. They approached us with the idea to form a promotional company. Initially it was going to be 50 Cent, Manny and Floyd. But right now I don't think Floyd is going to be a part of it. I explained the idea to Manny. We already have a promotional company, MP Promotions, and we have already done three separate promotions from Top Rank...on a small scaler. I have to take the blame for that. I'm in charge of it. There is an element missing there, but I have so much to do with Manny - that I haven't got that company to where I want it," Koncz told BoxingScene.com.

"I think with 50 Cent, with his entertainment connections and his popularity there, combining that with Manny's popularity and expertise in boxing - we can bring a new flavor to boxing - we can excite some young boxers and I think we can sign some top quality boxers. I spoke to 50 Cent tonight and confirmed that we're going to go forward. Manny is coming here this weekend for other business, but we're all excited about it. With 50's influence in the music industry - we want to put a different flavor on the shows."

"On pay-per-view events maybe we won't do four fights. Maybe we'll do two fights and a mini-concert in-between or something. A different angle on it. People know Manny cares about other boxers and I think that's going to be important when we go out and sign other quality boxers who may not know 50 Cent but on the other hand know Manny and know his generous character to other boxers."

  10. He already is IMO pound for pound number one, Mayweather and Pacquiao are both past their primes, although the P4P is always going to be subjective, I don't really know what he has to do to get the nod from Ring magazine.

I think you're very much in the minority with that thinking.

Ward is clearly the heir to Floyd's throne though.

Martinez vs Chavez this weekend! Can't wait!

  11. What I worry about is the way Martinez consistently slows down during the middle rounds. If he does that in this fight when Chavez will be coming on strong then I think he could be in trouble. He really can't afford to give away any rounds as well, because if he's going to get a decision it's going to need to be very clear.

The biggest question is whether Chavez's chin can hold up to Martinez's power. We can't expect him to have tightened his defence a great deal so his chin is going to need to be really good. He's shown a great beard so far in his career but he's never fought anyone who digs anywhere near as hard as Maravilla.

Amir Khan has dismissed speculation that he will take on three-weight world champion Joan Guzman when he returns to the ring in December.

Khan confirmed that he will return to action on 15 December, but he claimed that Guzman was 'below his level' despite being unbeaten in 35 contests.

"I want someone who is a bit more credible than him," said Khan, who relinquished his WBA light-welterweight title to Danny Garcia in July. "I've come from world title fights and he might be a little below that.

"We're just getting the dates right. It will either be in England or America, December 15 is the date."

Khan also appears certain to part company with trainer Freddie Roach, claiming he is not the right man to improve his suspect defence.

"I'll be going to New York to speak to a few coaches and maybe bring in a mentor who can help me in defence," Khan added.

"I'm mainly looking at ex-fighters, Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya and maybe Shane Mosley, they all want to help out and show their support."

And in a thinly-veiled swipe at Roach, Khan said: "If we had the defence we should have had we would be the best fighter in the world.

"That's the downfall of me and Manny Pacquiao - we're both offensively the best fighters in the world, but defensively we're not the best."

  12. I'm not sure what the legit belt actually is lol, I mean Sturm's WBA strap is 'Super', Golovkin's is 'Regular'. It's a joke.

I truly believe that HBO are throwing in with GG and are going to try and turn him into a star, he has the punching ability and power to 'catch the imagination' of the American audience (in HBO's mind), and Proksa, another exciting power puncher, probably seen as a good contender.

The event is a little strange, it's in Verona, New York, basically in the middle of nowhere, population just over 6000, does have a casino though...

I don't see why HBO would try to build him up. While he's a good, exciting fighter he doesn't exactly fit the demographic they usually go for (See: Broner).

This is what promoting has become.

  13. I think Geale's movement was great tonight and took away Sturm's weapons. I agree Sturm's very structured, a bit of movement tends to throw him off and confuse him, Geale's game plan was great.

Geale Martinez, I wonder whether there's much will there to make it. Martinez seems to be chasing Mayweather, he has talked a lot about him over the last year, he was even talking about him in the HBO face off with Chavez Jnr. I guess if offered Martinez would take it, mind. Although I think the fight at m/w would be Martinez-Golovkin. Golovkin making his HBO debut tonight is all about raising his profile for a potential fight with Maravilla IMO.

There's been a bit of talk about Floyd-Martinez, but it's all coming from Sergio's end. I don't think it's a fight that interests Mayweather all that much. Although I'm really not sure what options he has left.

Golovkin-Proksa being on HBO is a strange one. Both making their debut, and it's not even for a legit belt. GG vs Martinez is a good fight, and we'll know a lot more about Golovkin's chances after tonight I suspect.

  14. Yep, Real Deal Geale wins, I had it 6-4 and 2 even in favour of Geale. Geale used the Macklin blueprint, high volume and worked the body very well. He also has more skill than Macklin, his movement was excellent and he almost completely removed the Sturm jab, Sturm is a highly structured fighter and Geale's movement really confused him.

It was the sort of fight that I predicted in terms of the styles, close but Geale's output was better, looked like he landed more, Sturm landed the harder and sharper shots but it wasn't enough. Geale's win was fully deserved. Krouts need to stop booing as Geale talks as well.

I agree above that Proksa's best chance is 'in a fire fight', his only chance is a punchers chance and catching Golovkin with a big shot. I see Golovkin winning by stoppage. Assuming Golovkin wins, I think he could stop Geale if that fight is made.

I don't think it's particularly difficult to remove Sturm's jab. Yes, it's a great shot when it's working. It's a stiff, accurate shot. But he needs space to work which is why it was ineffective for large parts of the Macklin fight, and his poor footwork means that it's not too hard to stay out of range against him.

I can't see the Geale-Golovkin fight being made. I don't think the money would be there for it. A Martinez-Geale fight is probably more likely.

  15. Yeah I am looking forward to the Sturm v geale fight tonight as well and also dont know much about Geale either

I just spotted that the Golovkin fight is on tomorrow in the afternoon is it on any of the sports channels tonight?

It's on Sky Sports, but they haven't got it live. It's on at 8:30am, and repeated later in the day. Better than nothing, I guess.

I fancy Golovkin to stop Proksa in the second half of the fight. Proksa's defence is fairly poor at the best of times and as the fight goes on he's only going to open up more. He makes a lot of ineffective movements and wastes energy doing so. When he tires and Golovkin connects it's only going one way.

Proksa's best chance probably comes in a fire fight, he's got a decent dig and Golovkin's chin is fairly untested, but I really don't like his chances in this one.

Interestingly the WBA have said that they're going to order a fight between the winners of tonight's fights. Yeah, a unification for the same organisation's belt. I can ignore the belts though, we all know Sergio Martinez is the Middleweight champion, and appreciate that we've got 2 decent fights between contenders tonight.

  16. Carl Froch to face Yusaf Mack on November 17 in Nottingham.

An easy one, but he's earned it.

Yep Mack was a B level at best SMW and is a B level at best LHW. Froch should win this by stoppage. Mack has been stopped before by the likes of Liberado Andrade and Glen Johnson.

Cloud also stopped him last year in a title fight I seem to remember.

Looks like the Bute rematch will be early(ish) next year. Mack is a decent tune up considering Bute is fighting someone with more professional kickboxing bouts than actual boxing ones LOL.

Grachev is a better opponent than what I was expecting for Bute. He's coming off a brilliant upset win over Sillakh, who a lot of people (myself included) were tipping for the top. Saying that I think providing Bute head is right following the Froch fight, he shouldn't have any problems and look great in the process. Grachev's built slightly in the Glen Johnson mould, yet not quite on his level.

I was interested to hear that Froch was saying the rematch could take place at a catchweight. That's a bit of a strange one really, and if it happens makes the fight an even harder sell.

On Bellew, I think you're being a bit harsh on his chin. Look at the powers of recovery he shown against McKenzie, particularly the second knockdown. I don't think it's going to be an issue for him. Especially with his much improved defence since leaving Arnie.

Ovill McKenzie really doesn't warrant the journeyman label, btw.

good to have a real boxing fan on here

    :?

  17. What do you guys think on this one? Is it a 50/50?

It's a good fight but the fact that it's at 168 instead of 175 puts a bit of a downer on it.

I think you've got to make Ward a clear favourite for it. I think he'll make Dawson look completely clueless, even if Dawson can do the weight well. I wasn't impressed by him in the Hopkins fight, and he's up against a much greater talent here. If Hopkins still had the tank to throw a half-decent amount of shots he would have beaten Chad.

We all know how mentally weak Dawson can be, I think he's going to start to crumble after a couple of rounds when he can't lay a glove on Ward.

After this, assuming Ward wins, I'm not really sure what's next for him. Perhaps the winner of Pascal-Cloud, but beyond that I can't really see anything left for him of note.
