  1. Agreed!! Lets stick to the facts for now, I've already had enough dissapointment from Villa Park this season!!
  2. Football focus just said that "the rumours are that morale is that low that if we loose today McCleish will walk". They stressed it was just rumours - and I in no way want us to loose today - but we can all live in hope huh!
  3. Bothered about Lambert!! Guardiola's leaving Barcalona at the end of the season!! (I'm joking, naturally!!! ) Lambert would be my first choice, not a massive fan of Martinez - and he's already turned us down once.
  4. Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City, Bradford City, Barnsley, Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Derby County, Leicester City, Portsmouth, Watford, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town etc etc... Just read those team names that you have listed. They are not nor ever have been in the same bracket as Aston Villa. They are nothing teams and have been for a long time. Why don't you go the whole hog and mention Accrington Stanley? Are you joking?? Some of them - you're totally right to make that claim over - but for teams like Wednesday, Leeds, Forest even Pompy, Middlesbrough and Coventry at the actual time of them being relegated from the top division, they had a stature, team and fan base just like we do now!! They were all the 'big club that got relegated' in their particular seasons.......just like Newcastle. Leeds' story is remarkebly like ours! Went for broke, missed out on champions league, had to sell all their 'best players', had a tactically inept manager and eventually went down. Now we've not gone down just yet (and I hope to hell that we don't) but to think that we're a much better club now than some of those listed were when they went down is madness!! (and you're not the only one to of made that point!) You can't possibly make that comment based upon the stature of those clubs now - you need to look at where those clubs were when they got relegated - that was the point of listing them in the first place! (and I'd just like to add Southampton to that list to) In my head, AVFC are as big as Manchester United - because I'm a fan and love my club - but the reality of it is that theres not much difference between AVFC now and Coventry when they went down (should I remind you that they'd been in the top flight for 34 years by the time they went down?) Infact, our season stats now aren't that far off what Coventrys were at the end of the season they went down - so we're totally in the same bracket as some of those teams!
  5. For what its worth, I actually don't think thats a bad idea! I'm totally behind singing & civil protests as well - but at least this way those who aren't as local can also join in the protest!
  6. I think that theres a lot of people who fall into the category of thinking that relegation would instantly see McCleish sacked (I have read the word 'may' in your comment btw - I'm just using your post to make a point ) Chances are though, being that Lerner seems to think he's the man to rebuild our club, he wont go - and then what? Will those same people all be happy to drop to League 1 'just incase?' If its our time to go down, then its our time to go down - I'll accept it when I have to, but it'd be nice to see the club go down with a fight rather than some of the dross we've been subjected to over the past few months! I understand that there is more to life than football, and maybe taking it on the chin now is many people's way of dealing with the situation that we're in right now, but relegation is simply not the way - or a 'quick fix' to the situation we find ourselves in!! Randy & co will still be here!! You can take me to the Championship but I'll sure as hell be kicking and screaming my way all the way there!!
  7. I've been a Villa fan for 20 years now - and no matter what I think of Randy, Faulkner & McCleish - Last night's result and the prospect of going down left me gutted!! Whilst it could be a chance to rebuild (and do a Newcastle) it could also be a chance to do a Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield United, Coventry, Notts Forrest.....the list goes on! Relegation is so much bigger than them three tools, they'll walk away with their millions (granted Randy's will be a little lighter now) but Villa will still be there!(hopefully!!) I'm really not looking for a fight here, or telling you you're wrong - we're all allowed our own opinions, and at the end of the day we're all in this together no matter what league we're in. But being that I've put my heart, soul and hard earned cash into supporting and loving this club over the years I will say that Championship football will NEVER be enough for me, this club should be so much bigger than that!
  8. I've been saying exactly the same thing - last night really was make or break for us - I just cant see where the next goal is going to come from let alone point. Whilst we have 9 points left to play for - our form over the past few games doesn't exactly fill me with confidence - the only thing that can save us now is QPR's run, how sad is that! Watching Villa is like looking at road kill right now - I don't want to look, but I just have to! (and I'm totally looking through my fingers!)
  9. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6952734,00.html Aston Villa star Stewart Downing has confirmed that he will not be committing to a new contract 'at the moment'. The England winger enjoyed an excellent campaign for Villa, winning their Player of the Year award. His form has seen him recalled to the national team set-up, whilst his appearances have caught the eye of a number of clubs. Skysports.com revealed earlier this month that Villa want to make him the highest paid player at the club, but Liverpool and Arsenal are both understood to be keen. "I am 26 and at a major crossroads in my career so I won't be committing to a new deal at the moment." Stewart Downing Quotes of the week Downing has now confirmed talks have taken place but he is not about to sign a new deal, with two years still remaining on his current contract. "I know the club are keen for me to extend my contract as I only have two years left on my deal and that my agent had a recent meeting with our chief executive (Paul Faulkner)," Downing confirmed. "However, I am 26 and at a major crossroads in my career so I won't be committing to a new deal at the moment." Downing joined Villa in 2009, but he was still recovering from a broken foot so this season has been his first full campaign for the club. Ambition Villa now look to have a fight to hold on to Downing, which will be a huge blow, especially with Ashley Young edging towards the exit door at Villa Park. Downing further underlined that he could be looking elsewhere when he revealed that he is yearning to play in the Champions League. "I want to keep playing and enjoying my football," Downing told the Northern Echo. "When I was injured that made me realise what it can be like to be out for such a long time. It hurt. The most important thing is to play football, but I do want to play in the Champions League at some point. "The most important thing for me, though, is to stay fit and then the rewards will come with that, hopefully. I have got back into the England squad, I have to make sure I stay there. "It was horrible to miss the World Cup last year, but I was not the only one. Looking back it was probably because I was injured for much of that season that I never made it."
