I use a chest strap with a watch, both Garmin. A watch is ok but sometimes it just goes wrong and gives HR that is clearly wrong. If you use the watch in combination with your percieved effort then it's good tool as they track everything for you and you know when the HR is wrong. If you want an accurate HR then get a chest strap (they are comfortable).

The key thing to remember is you should be doing 90% of all your exercise at an easy effort. Easy means you can speak a sentence or two and hold a conversation if required but people would know you're exercising. The more you can build up to doing weekly at Easy pace the better. I think jog walk jog walk is the way to start and record how long you have done and look to increase the amount every week.

I'm going to say it again. EASY, if you are reaching an effort where you are struggling then you are going too fast. It's all about effort levels, as you get fitter you will just be moving faster for the same effort. The key is walking / jogging / running the effort nothing else.

    Thank you for the advice!

The speed a person runs or jogs at is irrelevant. What is relevant is the heart rate being raised by the increased exertion. Everything flows from that. So never worry about it.

Just keep the motivation to keep doing it.

Speaking of which, are those heart rate watches any good for this?

No I haven't. Will have a look at that today thank you.

Quick update. I downloaded the C25K app and went out to give it a go before work.

I don't have any earphones to listen along though so thought I would pop into Sainsbury's to pick some up but Argos doesn't open until 9 (What's that about?) so I just used the timer on my phone and found it quite enjoyable. Amittedly I'm not sure what I was doing could be considered running rather than jogging but will definitely be doing this more and hopefully the migraines stay away.

Back in the 1980s, my wife's office was evacuated when a mysterious parcel arrived from Ireland, exhibiting greasy patches and a slight smell of almonds (both apparently signs of certain plastic explosives). The bomb squad were called, and a controlled explosion carried out in the car park.

    Turkish delight everywhere.

The best thing you can do to Turkish Delight is blow it to smithereens

Have you tried the couch to 5k program? Its an NHS plan and it is brilliant. I've been doing it with my wife on and off, we've gone from just being able to walk swiftly to jogging 25mins continuously. It has a free to use app and everything

No I haven't. Will have a look at that today thank you.

  6. I've wanted to improve my fitness for some time now but I always get exercise induced migraines with anything physically strenuous, it really puts me off.

I also get that really sharp pain when breathing in during cardiovascular exercise which I've read is caused by cold air restricting the airways as we start to breathe through our mouths rather than our noses. I usually end up gasping for air after five minutes lol.

Has anyone experience these things as well?

Saying we’re not ready for the champions league so it’s not a bad thing if we don’t qualify is a bit like me deciding that, actually I shouldn’t go on a date with Jennifer Lawrence this weekend because I haven’t quite toned up enough yet, can we make it a couple of months from now, Jen?

I had friends say the same thing when we were in the championship, we'd have been there for years.

Well possibly but it looks like Manu were unable to apply pressure and their CL charge is more of a waddle.

Hindsight is 20/20. Again what do you want sky to do? Say the following match is crap so don't bother watching?

This commentary woman (after the match) saying things like "Manchester United have the opportunity to put pressure on Villa and Spurs with a visit to Brentford....next!"  and "Manchester United as they make a charge for Europe"

Hmmmmm, 12 points behind us....... Yes, real pressure.

Lol I mean it's kind of their job to make things more interesting. Would be boring if they said... up next two teams go head to head in a potentially meaningless match.

Is Southgate that much of simpleton he would leave Watkins at home based on 1 game with zero creativity or service? Yes he is. (nothing against Toney btw).

Certain players suit certain systems. The trouble is Southgate has no system.

How much would the new stadium cost? Assuming a billion like spurs we'd not see any profit at all from it's construction for 20 years. In that time our (current shitty) broadcast revenue would have earned the same value three times over. We're way behind in terms of broadcast revenue, and ancillaries. We upgrade those and that extra £50M would be like chump change. Or we could just sell our heritage for no significant gain.

20 years is nothing. If we're only looking at the short term like yourself then I don't have much hope for us anyway.

One for the papers criticised him for a bad first touch allowing the defender to make the tackle

I'm sure the Commentator last night was also waxing lyrical at the quality of the through ball from Gallagher

    Both are laughable

I turned it off pretty early on because I wasn't really excited for the game to begin with. But if it's the chance that I saw then it wasn't a shot, the defender kicked it on to Ollie. Literally no way to score that other than fluke. **** the media

    Just don’t get hurt.

It'll be typical, almost a guarantee. Southgate won't pick him for any of the games in Euros anyway.

  14. It's not often that I sit down to watch anything that's over 5 minutes long in it's entirety these days, as my brain gives me the itch to look at my phone for no purposeful reason. But this new video on missing flight MH370 is fascinating.

It's just under an hour long but it's gripping throughout. And it's interesting to see that new emerging technology can help uncover some of the mysteries.
