  1. Apologies as I don't know you and how much potential you had or what level you got to. But that statement is a joke. SI has got potential but he has also played very well for 2 seasons at the top level for a good team. He's got more than potential. I beg to differ. So your saying he's past the potential stage? Well if so, what has he done? Bar that outstanding season at City where he played with the likes of a very in form Robinho, Elano etc.? For me, a player comes out of the potential stage once he has actually proved something over a decent amount of time. He has not exactly set Villa on fire and has come nowhere close to how VDV has set Spurs up this season.
  2. He has potential. But so did I when I was a youth. Potential really means nothing to be honest, you have to back it up with something more than just a season. He could work here, he just seems so reluctant to do so. Lets be wise and put his wages somewhere worth while and improve our game on the field. I can see him going to a Bolton, Blackburn, Fulham style club where he will, like Sidwell, play most games and get in to a rhythm and become successful for them. Wouldn't be surprised if he opt abroad though.
  3. Friedel Young Cuellar Collins Warnock Bannan Clark Hogg Downing Ireland Gabby I hope that that is the team tonight. Torres has said in the past that he hates playing against Villa and more so Cuellar, for reasons be-known to me. Maybe Carew up top to combat the aerial threat of Skertal and the Greek Razor Ruddock, but then that may bring us to play the long ball, which is not what i want to see tonight. We need a win. A win will change our season. We lose and we will struggle against WBA next week. COME ON VILLA!
  4. Unfortunately Richard we wont be able to get these better options in until January at the earliest. I'm sorry but you can't blame GH for lack of options up front. With you Mantis. Leave Houllier alone
  5. What do you want Houllier to do? He has inherited a team with a lack of attacking options! Oh, play Carew shall he who noone wants on the pitch anyway. Fickle
  6. I think we were just very unlucky in all honesty. Friedel. I thought last season should have been his last and the past 3 games have highlighted this for me. New keeper by the summer pelase. Dunne. All at see. Back to his City days now that he has settled here. Carlos who was great against WOlves needs to come back so Dunne gets a kick up the arse. Downing. Poor crossing and not as good as previous games. Warnock. Played well for once, some very nice runs. Impressed me. Young. Getting there. Need to play on the wing though, so much more of a threat to the opposition, and they know it. Hogg. Good little battler there in the midfield. Gave it, and took it. Good match kid. Bannan. Did well when he eventually got involved (which was not his fault). Picked up a slight groin strain apparently. Gabby. Great performance. Treat every team like it is the Blues and he will be a goal machine.
  7. Gabby or Delfouneso to start against Utd? Unfair to drop Delfouneso imo. Done nothing wrong in two starts. Bagged a goal (Or two last night) and had chances at Fulham.
  8. Clark looked comfortable. NRC had the bite that we need. Dunne was better than previous games. Sidwell, well had a typical Sidwell performance ie. Nothing to report. Tactics slightly negative until NRC came off for Carew. No Ireland? Interesting. Weird game in all.
  9. Selection headache. At Villa. Noooo way. O....we do. Brilliant Ireland didn't have the greatest game against Chelsea. He drifted in and out of the action. I was pleased though with what I saw. He has good potential and needs to be played behind the striker. Saying that, he had a free role at Citeh and popped up on the wing and in the centre. With Ash, DJ and Ireland as a 3 they should all be able to work out for themselves that they are interchangeable. --------NRC---Petrov--- Downing Ireland Young -----------Gabby-------- Albrighton for me atm has huge potential but burns out of game. His energy and pace can be used when were resting players, covering injured players or we need something different in the last part of the game. I have been very impressed with him so far though. NRC to do all the donkey work he has been doing since he got back in the team. Tackle, simple pass, huge engine. Petrov to be box-to-box and then subbed when tired replaced by Sidwell and when fit Delph. Ireland will be a star at Villa this season given the chance
  10. Fickle? Its form mate, Heskey is in it, for about the first time in his career, so he should be starting. Gutted he's not made it to be honest. He's injured... But people are moaning that Carew is starting as if he has suddenly turned shit over night. Gabby was never going to play. Heskey failed late fitness test. Who else is going to play...Fonz? No thank you
  11. Fickle Fickle. Last season people would have picked Carew over Heskey. O, that was because Carew was scoring goals. Now Heskey is starting to play well people think he shouldn't be dropped. Come on!! Nice to see Ireland behind Carew. His best position. Beye at RB. Good he has a chance but wouldn't have minded Lichaj...bit inexperienced against a very good Malouda perhaps. Think we will do OK later on. UTV
  12. Strong bench :? Good to see Delfouneso included though. Bannan did well on the wings when I saw him there last, albeit against Walsall. Young on the wing, at last. 4-4-2 on the agenda this season we reckon?
  13. Good point. Kevin Mac needs to still have an important role with the first team. All the players seem to love working with the guy. He's said himself that he is a coach, not a manager. Perfect role.
  14. Without the ball he's quality. With the ball he's below average. Problem? I think so. Play him against teams were we need a bit more energy, tackling ability and he will do a very good job. Play him as the box to box midfielder in replacement for Ireland. We're struggling
  15. Usual to see the back room staff move on once a manager has left. After all, most of the back room staff are there because of the manager, and will follow him around.
  16. Do managers have 100% of the say when it comes to who they sign? It doesn't in business, which at the end of the day, football club are. Man City is a perfect example, although an extreme one, for the above. Another example can be Cristian Poulsen. Hodgsen is getting him after years of Benitez wanting him. Seems strange that two managers want the exact same player, while the board is still the same, and there the ones that are paying the fees and wages. I'm still a firm believer that the manager managers the team and the players that he has infront of him and doesn't have as much influence that we all thing they have when it comes to transfers. Think Ireland will be one signing that the majority of the fans want to come, and looks like it will happen, hopefully be introduced infront of the crowd on Saturday, or maybe in the squad. The new man will hopefully, like Curtis Davies has said, start from the beginning giving every player in the squad a chance to prove their worth, and the players that are not, get sold to lower the wage bill and hopefully have some sort of money to reinvest back in to some players that will actually help the squad.
  17. I believe we do. That match will have a few youngsters in the team however. I'm sure MoN has already stated at Europa League is for the kids. Friedel Cuellar Collins Dunne Warnock NRC Petrov Milner Young Downing Gabby
  18. Was impressed with the youngsters as a whole on Tuesday. Bannan is obviously very skilful, has a good footballing brain, but, from what i saw on Tuesday, he seemed to try and do too much with the ball. A few times this happening in the business end of the pitch...get it out your feet and into the big man in the box, don't fanny about with it all the time. Definitely a prospect in my eyes but probably not at the moment.
  19. Michael Bradley has been mentioned before. First time i have sen him properly. Looks to have good vision, good touch, good passing and a great engine. Natural replacement for Petrov 11/12, bled into the side 10/11, i think so. I would rather Ireland than KPB but still a very good player that looks to have enthusiasm to play unlike some other money grabbing youngsters, great feet, pacey and looks to have bags of potential. Bradley, Ireland, KPB, Richards are on my list.
  20. Not prolific. Not a team worker. Not a top premiership striker. Not a Villa player. EVER. Anyway, as much as you want him here, MoN isn't as stupid as that to bring him here. END.
  21. It amazes me when people on her talk about players such as Kevin Davies, James Beattie and Yakubu in recent times. Are you guys serious about Villa in a way that you want us to actually compete for CL football or not? The above players are no beater than the players we have, and probably worse. Why the hell would you want players of this calibre (as in, their past it) in our team.
  22. I didn't say give him exactly the same as the likes of City and lets face it, Milner is not going to think about telling MoN now just so he has longer to look for a replacement, its not in his interest. He has obviously be directed by his agent and bankers :winkold: what to do in this situation
  23. And therein lies the problem of going to Man City. Hero to zero as the owners demand a new plaything every window. Judging by the players than City are being linked with (yes I know its media speculation) I would be pretty worried if I was Barry. Good player that he is how many other clubs will match £110k a week? I suspect none of that is wasted on Milner either. Its also pisses me off that the media are putting a bad spin on the meeting Milner had earlier this week. I don't think the club were expecting a commitment from him and the fact that Randy Lerner was there tells you all you need to know. I'm sure the message was we really want you to stay, you will get a much better contract, we will be bringing in the necessary players and we will sit down after the world cup. It strikes me its the usual rubbish from the media who really have no story on this. He's been interviewed a few times since this sepculation started, and he could have put it to bed, but he's chosen not to, it would have made everyones life a lot easier. He comes out and says he's staying before he discusses with Villa = Villa offer a slightly bigger pay packet. He doesn't say anything about his future = Villa try to compete with a potential pay packet from the likes of City and therefore more mney
