  1. Completely agree. With two good additions assuming Ireland is still coming then with the right manager ie Jol then this squad united and all being used properly could do well next year and give Spurs and Liverpool a good run for their money.
  2. Pls no.... Awful football.. I want to see stylish football at Villa Park. Jol is the man to bring that to Villa Park.
  3. Jol is not an option. We might as well hope for Mourinho! Why? Because the Fulham deal fell through??? He would jump at the chance of managing Villa.
  4. Hi General, I wrote a few months back predicting this might happen. I also wrote that you had an outstanding candidate in Martin Jol to keep this club progressing. He is the man for Villa. Excellent credentials and has proven track record at a similar club in Spurs and also now at Hamburg and Ajax. He is the logical choice and would be busting a gut to do well in England. He also played for West Brom so knows all about Villa and its size. Lets stop having an inferiority complex at this club. Tottenham and Arsenal are traditionally no bigger clubs than Villa and yet they believe they are one of the biggest clubs in the land. All I hear from Villa staff and fans is how we can't compete at the top... NONSENSE. This is a massive club that needs to remember its history and want to get back to the VERY TOP of the English game. Sure that comes with finance but it also has to come with attitude and belief that the top is where Villa belongs and where it must aim for! JOL can help us do that.
  5. I have been advocationg for Martin Jol for sometime... He would be excellent for Villa. Great brand of football. Did well at Spurs and has done well at Hamburg and Ajax since. For me he is the outstanding candidate. Apart from him Billic appeals. He seems to have that "Mourinho" arrogance and clearly coaches good football looking at the way Croatia play. More of a gamble though.
  6. £25 million is a fair price for James Milner... Whether or not its right to take it and what message it sends out that yet again we are selling one of our best players to Man City is another question.... But from a purely financial worthiness its a fair price. The deal should be £16 million plus Ireland. That seems good business.
  7. Ballack anyone? Midfield general and still a class act although wages would be big.
  8. Robbie Keane is class and definitely offers us something we don't currently have ie guile and creativity in the final third. I don't buy this theory he is too old so providing the price is right I would buy him and Beckford along with Scott Parker, Micah Richards and Stephen Ireland. These 5 players coupled with our already class defence would leave us in great shape for next season. Shorey, Davies, Harewood, Heskey, Bouma and Sidwell to be let go. Would try and re connect with Luke Young and Reo Coker ie fresh start To me those players added to current squad minus the departures would leave us with fresh impetus to have another go next season and give the manager more creativity and opportunity to rotate as the quality would have gone up a notch
  9. I'll try again.... Diego Forlan anyone? As for the link up player I still think Robbie Keane would be ideal for that.
  10. Diego Forlan anyone? Linked with him before. Class act who has improved massively in Spain and is a natural goalscorer. Would he be interested in coming? I think yes as I am sure he wants another crack at England.
  11. My realistic Summer transfer activity would be: In's 1. Robbie Keane- Still a class player and creative as well as a good goalscorer- £7 million, 2. Beckford- Yes unproven in Prem but looks a natural goalscorer and looked good at Man U and Spurs in Leeds cup run.- Free 3. Scott Parker- One of the best holding midfield players in Prem and would be much better at the role than Petrov- £8 mill 4. Stephen Ireland- Last season he looked world class as an attacking midfield player. This year he has been pushed out... Can see Richard Dunne pushing for this one- £9 million Total Outlay- £24 million Out's 1. Heskey- £2 million 2. Shorey- £2 million 3. Sidwell- £3 million 4. Harewood- Nil 5. Bouma- Nil 6. Curtis Davies- £6 million 7. Beye- £1 million Total recoup- £14 million Net Spend- £10 million I would tell Luke Young and Reo Cocker that they had futures at the club and to knuckle down and break into the team. I think for a net spend of just £10 million our squad would have more quality and I am sure Lerner would swallow that. Thoughts?
  12. Dear General Krulak, I will be crucified by many on here for writing this but I honestly feel we have come to the end of the road wih MON. He has done a good job in putting the club back to where it was for the majority of the John Gregory era ie top 6 (Actually DOL achieved 6th and a cup semi final in his first season without a quarter of the money MON has had). The fact is he has now proved in the last three seasons that his methods ie playing the same players week after week just don't work. Every season come end of Feb we collapse. If it were the first season this had happened you could think he will learn from this but no it's the third and no one is learning. I have attended Villa Park for 33 years and I have never seen us ship 7 goals in a match before. I was embarassed and ashamed of our performance on Saturday and yet not even a hint of an apology from O Neill. The same O Neill who was cupping his ear to the fans the week before when we struggled to a dreadful point at home to Wolves. It's not just the lack of rotation that bothers me. It's the style of play, lack of possession, giving the ball away (check out the stats, we have hardly in any games home or away had more possession than the opposition). It's hardly a style that is going to get us higher in the league or do anything in Europe should we qualify (We only have to look at our european exploits in the last two seasons to see that). I look enviously at Spurs and the squad they have assembled and more importantly the style in which they play football. They are a club with a bright future. We can be as well but sadly not with this regime. It's in the dark ages in terms of rotation, style of play and player acquistion. I for one would not be sorry for an amicable parting of the ways in the Summer. Many fans remain very loyal to MON and his coaches and that is their right. Oddly I rarely remember a manager more vocal or critical against the fans and yet he gets so much loyalty and love from them. The previous manager who had many faults criticised the fans once and was finished for ever. I only want what's best for Villa. In my humble opinion that means come the end of the season no MON for reasons mentioned earlier and I would replace him with Martin Jol a coach who plays football the right way and did a fine job at Spurs and has continued to do well at Hamburg and Ajax. That's my opinion and would remain my opinion even if we win the FA cup. I just don't see us ever doing better than this with this style of play and this policy of rotation. MON will never change his views so for me sadly as there are many things to like also about MON ie his passion etc he would have to go. If he were to prove he could change that would be different but I believe it to be highly unlikely. Anyway as many fans will be pleased to point out I don't make the decisions and nor do any of the fans. That is for the likes of you and Mr Lerner. Food for thought in any case.
  13. Almost certain Collins and Petrov will come back in. I don't agree and sends out wrong message after our best performance in a long while. It should be a case of the men in possession of the shirt get to keep it till they mess up otherwise where is the incentive for the likes of Luke Young and Reo Cocker?
  14. Yes sorry Albrighton.... On Pre season form you definitely deserve a place on the bench.
  15. My eleven for Sat (Subject to change if more players are signed between now and then!) I am assuming Luke Young not fit. 1. Guzan (Time for him to be No 1) 2. Beye 3. Shorey 4. Cuellar 5. Davies 6. Delph 7. Reo Cocker 8. Milner 9. Carew 10. Heskey 11. Ash Young Subs: Friedel, Sidwell, Agbonlahor, Delfouneso, Petrov (if fit), Gardner
  16. What about the sales of home grown players Cahill and Davis? Do you think these have proved to be good decisions?
