  1. I think the John McGinn that we know and love is back, outstanding performance and my MOTM for the 2nd game running. Credit to Ramsey as well, looked comfortable in the middle and confident on the ball as the game went on.
  2. He looks a real live wire, more composure on the ball than any other villa player today!
  3. I don't think el ghazi and trezeguet are the future for villa. I've read a news story (albeit from a tabloid) about pulisic looking to get out from Chelsea, now he's a player I would look at.
  4. Not a problem at all! I want to see Barkley succeed as much as the next person. He clearly has the potential. However, he's 27 and I've heard that word thrown around with him for what feels like a lifetime. They were talking about him being the next Gascoigne a few years back and I just don't see it. Even when he scored v Southampton the worrying signs were there. I'm not blaming him for the result tonight but he lacks energy and doesn't track back and allows the opposition midfield to cut through far too easily. Did he show anything tonight that would make Smith confident of starting him v Tottenham? I don't see it. I haven't got an agenda against the guy btw but I want to see the team bust a gut and bleed the claret and blue every game. It's not just Barkley who doesn't fall into that category btw. As you correctly mention there were other players who didn't do enough tonight.
  5. I remember us beating inter milan in a pre season friendly with Laursen bulleting a header in on setanta - mind you it was only a friendly!
  6. I only watched the 2nd half but I think Mcginn is getting some unfair slack. I actually thought he played well tonight and looked sharp compared to some of his previous performances. Im disappointed with Barkley. Either his confidence has gone or he just doesn't care or maybe abit of both. He has had numerous opportunities to make a statement but has failed and tonight was the final straw, misplaced passes and lack of energy, it was baffling. Konsa was excellent and I voted MOTM and we need jack back quick time.
  7. I know this has been said a million times but it's good to look at this result in context. Whilst the performance 2nd half was lacklustre, if someone had offered you 40 points by the start of March you would snapped their arm off. I think 4-5 games ago there was talk of a push for Europe but it's clear that without the creativity of Grealish we aren't going to get there...just yet. Barkley had a near enough 'cameo role' to play for what was just over 30 mins or so but he doesn't appear to be an option for the long term and I will be shocked if we shelled out on him. My biggest concern is the summer. We may consolidate this season which is great but we need to keep a hold of our core group of players as there will be other teams sniffing. Players like Grealish, Konsa, Cash, Mings, Watkins and Martinez are the spine and we need to keep hold of them even if Europe isn't on the table for the start of next season.
  8. We look hopeless. 1st half it looked like Wolves were there for the taking but we are going to be fortunate to come away with a point. We have offered nothing going forward with no cohesion between the midfield and attack. How Wolves missed from 1 yard out is beyond me and then Barkley plays a suicide pass back into our box when under heavy pressure for their 2nd major chance.
  9. Positive first half, was expecting Konsa to bury that but wasn't to be. Wolves haven't looked threatening at all and Traore has been kept quiet. If we continue in a similar vein 2nd half then surely a goal should come! (Won't be from a set piece though)
  10. Hello one and all, Have been a villa fan since I was a kid, now 31 and gone through the highs (O'Neill) and the Lows (Lambert, Matteo, Bruce list goes on). Looking to join so I can hopefully provide some insight and constructive discussion on the team that we all love. I think we are in for some exciting times and are building towards something special. We have owners that have the financial backing behind them along with a manager and support team who are villa through and through. Expecting a finish of 10th-12th this season but depending on how quickly Grealish and Cash return we could make a late push towards 6th-8th - a far cry from where we were last season! Look forward to joining the villatalk community. Kev.
