Brilliant challenge by McGinn in box there then pings a 40 yard pass 2 minutes later. Immense.

Yes. The other proven top managers in the league are Arteta, Guardiola and Klopp especially are all massive pricks. Emery is the exact opposite.
Totally agree

I know this shouldn’t really matter but he is such a likeable guy on top of his undoubted coaching/management skills. Brilliant.

Not seen a team look so united for some time. No prima donnas, no petulance, subs coming on and giving everything, totally playing for each other. Add that to the fact we have some very talented footballers, Villa are undoubtedly in the mix. No outstanding team in the league this year in terms of running away with it. It’s definitely on.

Did anyone expect this after Newcastle game (other than Alex Ferguson) This is a team you are watching. Absolutely committed to the cause.

Bailey and SJM. Magnificent.

I am lost for words at how Emery has transformed this team. 1-0 up against possibly best team in world, into injury time, and still 2 players were pressing Ederson as the ball was played back to him. No sitting back. No negative thoughts. Front foot all the time. It’s such a joy to see the team like this and getting amongst the big boys. LB and SJM outstanding tonight. The whole team were actually.

Did he really need to be played in both games when Scotland had already qualified? Would be annoying if he's injured at the weekend because he played in a dead rubber against Norway.
If Scotland won by 2 goals against Norway, more than likely have been in Pot 2 for Euros so Clarke was right to put out the strongest team possible. This wasn’t a dead rubber. It was in terms of qualification but it still had something riding on it. Plus, there is no way Scotland’s stand in captain, would willingly miss out on such an amazing, raucous night, just so he could rest up for next Villa game. Playing every game for his country means everything to him, in my opinion.

To think Villa were a Championship team just a few years back. Now look at us. Incredible turnaround.
-
SJM definitely needs a break and a chance to refuel his body…..

SJM, alongwith many players, cannot produce brilliant performances every game. Generally, we seem to be getting 4 great performance to 2 mediocre or poor performances. As the heartbeat of the club, and he is that, I think we should live with that. I don’t always read the other player’s threads but it seems to me, if McGinn has a bad 30 mins in a game, it’s time to get him upgraded. Everyone clearly entitled to an opinion but I genuinely believe Villa will be worse off, if he is sold, unless Villa bring in De Bruyne or someone of that ilk to replace him. Stick with him. Think he will serve us well for a few years yet.

I know forums are a place for knee jerk reactions but the difference in this thread regarding the hate/love for SJM is startling. I attached myself to Villa as soon as SJM signed. I knew what a good player he was and his form was terrible for a spell. I felt he should have been dropped as well but was always of the opinion that he would come good and that no way should he be got rid of. He will dip in form again, no doubt, as there is no way he can keep these amazing performances going over a whole season. I just hope, when or if he does, there is no clamour for him to be sold at the first opportunity as he will always come good and is such a brilliant ambassador for the club. Emery is the perfect manager for him and the club. Absolutely no panic whatsoever after Newcastle humbling. Played like Real Madrid since that game. Think McGinn and rest of players will have off days/spells but under Emery, feel they will always get back on track. Stay with McGinn through thick and thin. That last sentence was poetry.

It was like seeing Jonah Lomu yesterday when he span the opponent and drove forward with the player hanging on to his shirt and McGinn just carrying on .He is so strong its untrue.
Then played a perfectly weighted ball. Brilliant.

I saw this earlier and thought "damnit", it was listing the Athletics. On the non-HD channel (184?) It was listing the game.
Then I found BBC Scotland HD on another Sky channel and it was listing the game. Can't remember which channel though - not at home at the moment and wont be back until just before the game.

Anyone who does, how good are Hibernian? I mean, what kind of standard in England would they be, lower Prem, upper Championship?
As a St.Mirren fan, where my team recently beat Hibernian at Easter Road, I would say Hibs would struggle in lower reaches of the Championship. Exciting going forward, particularly at home but really poor at the back. Boyle can definitely hurt most teams with his pace if he is used correctly and in the mood.
If you were asking about the standard of St.Mirren, I would say we would win the English Premier League and probably Champions League. We are so good, we had to let John McGinn go as he was bringing us down.
Currently we are joint top of SPL and in quarter finals of the League Cup………where Hibernian awaits us.- 1

Any Villa fans heading up to the game, feel free to visit St.Mirren FC Stadium (SMISA) which is only 5 mins from Glasgow Airport. This is where your captain was moulded. Came through the academy here, making his professional debut as a teenager and won a major honour in Scottish League Cup. Definitely think, spending some cash in the shop on some Saints merchandise, would honour SJM…lol
