I quite like that kit. A bit like our 3rd Luke kit.

Just which they'd stop trying to shoehorn excuses in to why a kit is a certain colour or has certain embellishments. Just put the sodding thing out and price it reasonably. End of.

I have no idea what the complaint is with that kit either.

Just finished Mario vs. Rabbids Kingdom. Great, great fun.

Ah the first one—yeah it's so good. So underrated! (though everyone who plays it rates it)

I was having a look at the sequel on ebay recently. I'll definitely get it at some point.

Last few weeks I've started watching TNG for the first time :o

I have vague memories of it being on initially when I was a kid but never really got into it then or much of a star wars or star trek fan. But damn  nearly 5 seasons in and its mostly very very good! Though does feel like almost every other episode is another case of data learning about humanity. Thought he'd have picked it up by now 😛

The first two seasons aren't actually very good. I started again from season 1, but I jump forwards sometimes and do season 3 at the same time.

The other thing about the theme tune is that they decided to remix or rerecord it for the later seasons and somehow made it worse than it originally was.

At least it provided material for an endless number of jokes and some fun singalongs at conventions.

Whenever I really need to believe something that song always pops into my head. Sometimes I sing it and nobody knows what it is.

The show is pants though (yes I just watched the first season!)

Similarly, I doubt I'll improve on my PB, although (I'm going to give it a good shot this month) which is why I always think it will be the last. But there always seems to be some other reason to do it. Friends, the location, no other races that month or something.

Check out the app Run Kaizen/Kaizen (I do their blogs). It's better than other apps for really aiming to beat PBs as it simplifies your training load, while calculating everything around your target time. It gives you a very accurate (more than other apps) race prediction. I know this sounds a bit salesy—I can't stop! My writing is normally better than this I hope (I am so tired).

I am not trying to actually sell it to you, but I use it and it's useful. There's a free trial. I'm a believer in it as much as anything. It's not my main job, but a side thing I do because I like the app. Working with Kaizen really got me into running, and I echo the statements above about it being so good for mental health. I have half an eye on the Madrid marathon in April.

The app is still young, but it's the brainchild of an uber keen sports scientist. The next update has some important new features. In a couple of updates I think it's going to be quite special.

Posted in the 'Health and Sickness' thread but probably better suited in here.

Does anyone have any experience of taking Sertraline? I recently had quite a 'big' life event that has potentially changed my life, and I started developing OCD symptoms a couple of weeks after, to the point where it was affecting my work. Doc put me on Sertraline and I've been on it since Jan, and at first it seemed to work quite well. The dosage has been upped since, and now I feel worse, more anxiety based OCD about a number of things. I'm guessing 'life' has caused the anxiety, but I don't understand why it's hit me like a train when I'm on double the dosage now?

    TIA.

After my dramas (that I wrote about in the relationship thread), I had a bit of a bleak tumble over Christmas and my dad (a retired GP) finally won the battle to get me onto antidepressants. I went to the GP, did the test but was borderline depressed and ended up on 50mg of sertraline, and I've been on it since just before new year. The first two weeks were rough—and starting them just before new year was a massive error as the second of January was probably the worst day I've ever had—delayed hangover, tiredness, coming up on sertraline, feeling directionless and lost, home alone—I've never ruminated so awfully and constantly.

Happily though it was my lowest point. I leant into running (which I'd been building up over the previous month or so) and got back on the job hunt. I also came to accept that my ex was a weirdo and that it was nothing to do with me. The sertraline, imo, started more and more making me feel as if I didn't give a damn about her. It just created this sense of ambivalence in me, and it was enough to get me going again alongside everything else. I sent out loads of job applications and got picked up by a couple of recruitment people, who very quickly got me a couple of job offers. I accepted one, and left Madrid last week to move to Devon, where I'm now a copywriter.

Sertraline has ultimately helped me get my life back on track—it's been one tool among a lot of other tools, along with good support from friends and family, and treating myself as well as possible. I do feel it though, I think. It's slightly keeping me a touch more ambivalent about a lot of things, but I'm still capable of all the emotions, so it's not bad. Still, I'm going to try to speak to the GP again soon with the aim of tapering off it.

I also found out that half the people I know are on it for a variety of reasons. For me, it's been amazing honestly. Six, five, four, three months ago I couldn't imagine feeling normal again, but now it's all good. I'm happy to sing it's praises to anyone.

I wonder if you're feeling extra weird as your body adapts to the higher dose?

I'm beginning to wonder if he lacks the physicality for the Premier League. You can't wait and expect things to happen. Bailey was never this poor, he was mainly injured in his time under Smith and Gerrard. I don't think Diaby has the guile that Bailey possesses.

It reminds me somewhat of the contrast between two former Villa players, Mark Walters and Tony Daley. Walters was the skilful one and Daley was jet - heeled, but unlike Diaby, he could score a goal or two. Yes, that was a great assist against Luton, but he should be producing those consistently for the money we paid.

He was awful for long periods! He looked hopeless.

Quite hard to do with 2.5 hours, and a lot of material to portray. And also the book is kind of like this. It's not really dramatic until the very end (Messiah is even more like this, oh man I can imagine how boring people will find that movie if it ever comes out), but I think the climax was a good payoff and well worth it.

The majority of the book is watching the political machinations of the Baron (to be fair, something I felt the movie was sorely missing), and Paul slowly gaining power among the Fremen by convincing them (willingly or not) he's a Messiah until things come to a head at the end.

Ironically, I'm actually more interested in the books now. I might try to do the second one and on as audiobooks. The overall idea does sound interesting.

I wouldn't actually know, but I felt that the movie did a really good job of getting across the central themes to people who aren't familiar with the books. I also like that it had more of a "show, don't tell" approach but then again I would like that wouldn't I? It's one of my pet peeves of modern movies/blockbusters, where there's too much exposition and the viewer is taken to be some kind of fool.

Also, I think Zendaya was the weak link of the movie as well. It's not even necessarily her acting per se, as I think she does a great job of conveying emotion with her face but it's when she starts speaking that everything falls apart. All the Fremen who can even speak English have an accent, except for her. For some reason she has a perfect American accent, and there's no real explanation for it. It's like they dropped MJ from Spiderman into this and put her into a stillsuit, with her sarcasm and everything. It's really jarring. It's one of my few complaints.

I'd argue it didn't show over tell. It just didn't try to dramatise anything at all! Because it didn't have the space. People just say the plot then the scene ends. Onto the next one, then the next one. That's not good dramatic writing.

For the record everyone I watched it with thought it was a massive drag too.

    Nonsense.

I'm getting the impression this film is incredibly Marmite. Everyone I went with was bored to tears. And I am not someone limited to easy popcorn films—I consider myself as someone with a pretty broad taste and capable of extreme film nerdery. From an actual 'dramatisation' point of view I found it to be all spectacle and no soul. And maybe I said it before, but this is exactly what happens when there's too much plot to cram in.

This is the wrongest wrong thing I’ve ever read in the history of wrongness

I'm developing a theory that if you know about the books and the overall story then this 3 hour Hans Zimmer music video is enjoyable. If you don't then it just feels like hollow nothingness.

No argument could be made that the characters are well developed. There's a scene where Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson have an argument. It lasts about a minute, they discuss the story's central theme, and neither of them have spoken or had a scene together at all, or at best to any significant or memorable degree. 99% of the sequences in the whole film last about two minutes max. It's like a big summary/montage of an actual plot. Character development in these films has been removed entirely because there's way too much to fit in.

For me it started with promise but never got engaging once.

I saw the first one at the cinema, it was OK but nothing more.

Is this really worthy of its own thread?

Nope. It's so boring. Just like the first one—none of the characters have any personality and it was impossible for me to give a damn about any of it. What a waste of time and effort. Entertainment rating: 0/10 for me. I'd rather do anything else than watch either of these two films again. I'd rather sit in a cold waiting room for three hours.

If we had to sell one big player, I'll say it, it won't be popular, but it would be Ramsey.

We've proved we can play well and cope without him.Other players who miss games... Martinez, Torres, Kamara, etc, we are much weaker.

We've been shit recently until Ramsey came back. I think he's been a significant part of the turnaround (smashing the worst team in the league doesn't count the same).

Not every game! In our bad period he was misplacing a lot of passes. But when he's good I agree.

    etc

Not the McGinns though. I know what you're saying, but I bet there are loads of other examples.

This isn't true at all. I just wasted two minutes checking. Maybe it meant to say 'unbeaten' in London (I saw draws against Brentford and West Ham before I stopped!)

Edit: ah maybe I'm wrong. I read it as in London. (Because it's in the away form thread).

Even if a beer is rarely below 12zl out now (used to be 6), I'll take it!

I got my income returns for 2023 back today, if I earned what I made in Poland, in the UK, I'd be still be happy,

With the mess it is politically, financially, socially; I really have no idea why more people don't just leave. Especially with remote working so common now.

I agree, and I'm disappointed to be moving in a direction opposite to your logic. It's out of necessity really. After dramas (as per the relationship thread), I needed to sort a better job out. The first good job that I got is back home, so here I go.

The more I see about the situation with costs in the UK, the happier and happier I am that I left. When I first moved it was hard as I was earning pennies, but being here longer, with a better job, family etc, it's objectively a better place to be.

Gah I just got a job in the UK, so I'm heading back imminently after 8 years in Spain. The €3 wines were pretty tasty last night. Last time I was in the UK I bought someone a £8.10 small wine.
