  1. I remember seeing Lyon fans comment on r/soccer on him before he signed for us. There were definitely a significant contingent of Lyon fans who were over the moon with him leaving although I’m sure there were also some with more nuanced opinions.
  2. Probably because this is the Tyrone Mings thread. For what its worth, I think he's been quite poor this season. He's still probably our best defender from the old batch but that's more indicative of how poor our other defenders are than him being good. Him, Konsa and Cash cannot be regularly starting for us anymore if we're serious about getting to Europe. Jury's still out on Carlos and Moreno and Young surely isn' a long term option.
  3. Yeah slight mistake from me there. 4 from the bottom 7.
  4. We've also played 4 of the bottom 6 in his first 10 league games. Lets not try and pretend like he's had a heavily unbalanced fixture list here. If you averaged the current positions of all the teams we've faced with him, its 9.6. Pretty much close to bang on in the middle.
  5. Short version, our defense is really really shit. Long version, xGA measures the type and quantity of chances we've conceded and predicts how many goals we're expected conceded. Our xGA is the worst in the entire league since Emery took over.
  6. I've posted about this before, but now that the Arsenal match has past, we now have had the highest xGA(expected goals allowed) in the entire league since Emery took over. Something needs to be done about this.
  7. Yep, everton game is crucial. Lose that and its going to be bad.
  8. I’m sure many of us thought the same thing on gerrard after the first 10 games under him.
  9. Last thing we need right now is for Emery and Martinez to have a falling out. I do not want to see Olsen between the sticks for the rest of the season
  10. Its one of those cases where I think both are wrong in their own way. Martinez was wrong for not listening to the manager. But Unai was wrong for telling Martinez to stay. Like, the final goal was scored in the 8th minute of stoppage time when only 6 were scheduled, I don't know how Unai could've thought there was still a bit of time left.
  11. Friend of mine heard it in the interview with Emery. Said that he'd never ask a keeper to go forward when there was a bit of time left. Criticized his mentality. I can't check it myself since I've never bothered watching the post-match stuff, but seems bizarre for him to make all this up.
  12. This thread really shouldn't be open or at least needs to be moved. We're not in danger of relegation.
  13. Hearing that Unai is angry at him because he went forward despite being told not to. Oh dear.
  14. That’s a name that belongs in our academy. Sign him quick
  15. We're giving too much space to Trossard and Saka on the wings. Arsenal could be taking advantage of it much better than they currently are. I suspect that will change by the second half.
  16. Several sources but I realized they didn't include cup games. Yeah he scored a few in cup games that I didn't count. Even then it still only goes up to 33.
  17. I just realized we had both Sinisalo and Oliwier Zych on our bench last match, the latter I've never even heard of until just recently but apparently he's an 18 year old goalkeeper. I think the fact that we still stuck with 2 goalkeepers on the bench even with Olsen being out strongly suggests Emery prefers it this way. Edit: I just checked one of Villareal's squads at the start of this season too. And they indeed have 2 goalkeepers on the bench too.
  18. But that's the thing, he isn't choosing between a 2nd goalkeeper and a youth player. The 2nd goalkeeper is a youth player himself. Edit: Nevermind, I just realized Olsen didn't make the bench last match.
  19. I could only find about 27 goals even including european competitions. for what its worth, I thought he was alright for us in his first season, just not as good as his goals and assists suggest. I’m just worried the injuries last season may have had a bigger impact on him than we realize.
  20. Regardless of Kesler, I think its extremely odd that we're persisting with having 2 GKs on the bench in general. I genuinely cannot see any logic to it. Of all the youth players Emery could've chosen to fill up the bench, he chooses our youth goalkeeper fresh off a failed loan in league 1 despite the fact we already have another goalkeeper on the bench. Wonder if its a thing for emery to have 2 gks on the bench
  21. Really? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOgOZdCFQy4 He looked like a disaster for those first two goals
  22. Am I the only who doesn’t understand why work permit laws for footballers in England seem so strict?
  23. yes its skewed towards more recent games but that wouldn’t make the data any more meaningless. The point of taking the average over the whole period is so that you can get the whole picture fairly. The distribution of the high value points shouldn’t matter at all unless there is a separate explanation for them. for example, if we conceded those high xGA only during games against extremely difficult opposition. but simply pointing out these high xGA tends to happen more recently isn’t an explanation. If anything its more concerning than if we’ve conceded high xGA at the start of emery’s run or if it were more spread out as it might indicate teams are catching on to our tactics.
  24. Just noticed how large the xGA we've had since Emery took over. 1.62 expected goals allowed per 90 according to fbref. 1.72 according to understat which would be the fourth worse in the league in that same period with only Leeds, Palace and Everton having worse(although Palace have played an extra game). Our goals conceded is better but not by much. We've conceded 14 goals in the league in line with West Ham and Palace who as mentioned previously have played an extra game. Only 4 teams have conceded more goals in that period too, Leeds, Everton, Spurs(who've also played a game extra) and Southampton.
