  1. He's far too sensible for the English media. Plays in charity football matches back home, supports kids charities, dresses up as santa, fund raises for covid.....doesn't get drunk in the public eye.
  2. Probably. You're probably also right about the speed limit analogy. It's a sad situation whatever, and the difference between the PL and the EFL has probably never been bigger. It's a miracle Luton have made their way to the PL. Lets hope more clubs follow their model.
  3. Complete speculation really. Not sure why Purslow would have a vested interest in saving face over that decision such that he'd leak that to the media.
  4. It will be another one over the 20m threshold though. Probably just over 30m would be my guess based on the insane market we have today. Would like to hope we are searching further afield at other options before paying premiums for players like Harvey Barnes.
  5. But if we want to target that it does mean we basically need to sell another Grealish within the next 3 years. Obviously, that can be spread out over the three years, but as a pure academy sale, he leaves a big hole for us to fill from next seasons rolling calculations. I suspect we'll go big still, and cover losses over the next couple of years with a few sales of academy players. We definitely have the leeway to spend large amounts on whoever we think we need though.
  6. Due a home game first up. On that basis my prediction is at home to Everton.
  7. With BT losing so much money from their purchase of TV rights, I don't see the bidding process continuing in the same way and the prices continuing to go up. They've seen the limit they can make from selling the games to the public, and it doesn't cover the cost of buying the rights to the games. If Sky broke down their income by stream they'd probably find football was a loss making venture for them too. The likes of Amazon may well end up buying more. They already have their prime music unlimited service. Prime sport unlimited incoming. Edit: In terms if the impact this has on clubs and their spends, the more money the PL get for their rights, the more money the clubs receive. The higher that cap moves up. Not sure setting it above what anyone hits at the moment will really help us, but it might make the situation not get any worse. But how could it be any worse than a Man City that wins the league every year.
  8. It slightly amazes me how few pundits/ news people are calling it out in their respective media. I think I've seen it mentioned once in the BBC, and no where else. Just a complete ignorance of the fact they are charged with cheating. Cheating that has already been proven, but was unfortunately time barred under the previous uefa led investigation. I get we don't know what, if any, punishment is coming there way, but to pretend its not happening just helps their sportswashing aims.
  9. Except the transfer window hasn't even opened and we've already agreed to sign someone.
  10. But the stories around the intent of FFP when it was introduced (profit and sustainability), were that it will prevent clubs going bust. FIFA rolled it out at Uefa level first, then national governing bodies followed suit with their versions of it. Obviously that was never the real intent of the PL's version, and it was more to help protect the bubble at the top, but that's what was sold at the start. The different versions of it operated throughout the leagues are all supposedly intended to prevent clubs going bankrupt aren't they? And the FA oversee it all don't they? They're as complicit as the Football League if one of their members folds? Genuinely interested to know if I'm miles off course with this one. Also, what @YLN said, the real reason will be some shady dealings by an owner that no longer has the funds. How want it detected earlier. So my point around FFP is that if it wants to do what it said, it needs to look at other factors.
  11. BT sport making a 2bn loss might see a few improvements to the TV offering from TNT when the ownership changes. Surely they can't just be planning the same thing under a new banner. Ultimately though, it wasn't their shambolic commentary and punditry that cost them. It was the fact they had to pay so much for the rights in the first place. Football can't continue that way, although that is for a different thread I guess. Hopefully TNT offer something better than BT sport in the way of its football coverage.
  12. They shouldn't have broken the rules everyone else was complying with to gain an unfair advantage. One that is now baked in to their continued existence with all the outrageous sponsorship deals they can justify. The rules are crap and should be abolished. States shouldn't be allowed to own football clubs. The quicker Man City are erased from the record books the better. It would be great if at the same time they forced the owners to sell and didn't allow a different arm of the ADUG to buy them. While they're at it, the Newcastle sale that wouldn't have gone through if the FA actually enforced its rules needs reversing too. But instead of all that... they'll come up with some even worse rules, that make it even more difficult for teams like us to compete, and let Qatar buy Man Utd. When it happens, I'm probably done with football.
  13. And a 21 year old entrepreneur that seemingly has no legitimate funds either will not be the answer to their problems. FFP is all well and good as a theory, but the execution of it doesn't stop clubs like this going bankrupt due to corrupt owners, and doesn't encourage fair competition at the top of the league. The FA are a joke.
  14. Can't beat that straight from the horses mouth then. Doesn't feel like we are likely to have the same potential issues we had with Alemany here, but I won't be celebrating until its official
  15. Any native speakers want to translate the rest? I couldn't hear half of what he said, and even if I could I don't think I could work it out.
  16. He was appointment summer 2018, so it's exactly 5 seasons. He delivered what he came here to do. He had a hiccup and some help on the way. Appreciate what he did, but feel like NSWE wanted him less involved in the football side and he wanted to keep the fuller remit he already had. Purslow saw the success we had when he was less involved, so can't disagree that we're fine without him on the football side. An amicable agreement is reached, where he gets a huge return on his original investment, and leaves with the reputation of having delivered European football, even if the final push came without his direct input. We might miss his sway in dealings with the PL on the future of FFP and the like, but other than that I think we're parting ways at the right time.
  17. Eni Aluko looks like a celeb. She's terrible.
  18. Scholes still got the range shooting on point
  19. Soccer aid raising over 8m for causes that desperately need it is obviously quite good. As long as noone tells me half the money goes towards funding the event, or that it doesn't actually make it where it should I'll use it to forget the cancer of Man City for a day.
  20. I should explain that, with the comment you've quoted, I meant that there is zero incentive for the teams at the top to support the game at the bottom. They won't benefit from it. So they will do token gestures, and the real money will never leave the PL. I don't know how much incentive you can have from the bottom up... but if you ever manage to do it you'll be a hero. My last comment might be a way to do it.... a national identity to our style of play. A way of playing that is coached throughout the country from day 0. But again, its only the national team that benefits, the PL won't, so they won't want to fund it.
  21. Maybe your trust in the manager may make you question your rating of the player.
  22. I think it's because the sleeves are weirdly small. Scale seems off whatever.
  23. Why? Do you really think a 26 year old is past his best? Leicester were shambolic as a whole. You've seen what a bad manager did to our crop of players that finished 7th. Or do you not rate the player from 2 years ago either?
