We have tried to tie him down to a new contract. All of our other youth that we want to keep have signed. Unfortunately Carney hasnt . Ultimately it is not our decision.

He is in the middle of his contract with a big chunk of it still to run. Nobody knows if he has been offered an new deal or is refusing to sign. People are just believing the usual internet crap. Maybe he’s just enjoying the development process with the club and a new deal will be discussed nearer the end of his current one.

In fairness, that isn't filmed for enjoyment. It's not on the 'show' pitch at the academy, the one where U23 games are played with the grandstand - that's filmed on one of the secondary pitches over the back of that pitch - and it's filmed for coaches, they'll use it after the game to go over tactical things - it's never meant for public highlights.

True. It’s analysis video shot at a wide, high angle for review purposes only. - Then the lads film their laptop screens with their smartphones and stick their goals on social media (which they’re told not to do!).

Not sure I understand. I think Carney and Keinan will play tonight. City is next week?

I guess you're meaning the Papa John's game against Charlton - that's going to be a weird week - we're scheduled to be away with the U23's for Newcastle on the 29th, then away in Charlton on the 30th with the U21's for Papa John and then have a first team game at Villa Park on the 1st.

Something will have to go there surely?

    Newcastle now this Friday evening.

Do you know how many of the side that played Everton played in the 6-4 game last week?

I think we went fairly strong in that game, but not quite the full Youth Cup side, but we were also probably a little fortunate.

Fortunate? Played nearly the whole second half with ten men and a defender in goal against a very strong WBA team.

  5. From the FA :

The draws for the semi-final and Final of the 2020-21 FA Youth Cup have been made.

With eight clubs remaining in the competition and four quarter final ties still to be played, teams now know their route to the Final.

And with the competition only having one-legged ties in both the semi-finals and Final,  we also know which club will be at home in the Final.

Semi-final ties will be scheduled to take place by Saturday 15 May, while the Final will be scheduled before Saturday 29 May.

    The semi-final draw

1 Ipswich Town or Sheffield United v Liverpool or Arsenal
2 Newcastle United or Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion or Everton

    The Final draw

Newcastle United or Aston Villa or West Bromwich Albion or Everton v Ipswich Town or Sheffield United or Liverpool or Arsenal

It was 10 years ago this year when we drew 2-2 with Man Utd in the league, we had 7 payers feature in that game that had come through our youth system at various stages in their career, apart from cup games thats the most I can ever remember. Suppose it was a combination of having a poor small squad and injuries.

Our youth team used to challenge for the title every year back then, now we've been in the 2nd tier for a good few years.

We even won the NextGen series in 2012, so disappointing that only Jack made it from that side.

The youth team is not in the second tier. There are two U18s Leagues  - North and South. Villa’s U18s are in the Southern section with Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and others.

The scholars listed are all current “first years” ie soon to be in their second year. Next batch don’t sign until the end of this month.

... apologies, current first and second years are listed. In other words the new ones aren’t on there yet.

I think any player that refuse to sign a new contract at that age simply won't make it. You don't just need talent, but there's a huge part that's attitude etc.

Where did that exceptional talent that left us for arsenal end up? Netherlands or something?

It’s not as dramatic as “refusing to sign a contract”. At Carney’s age a promising U16 will have a scholarship offer from the club, but also have other clubs showing an interest. An important decision like this doesn’t have to be made yet and it’s only sensible to weigh up the options.
