In fairness, when I see the three lined up, it's definitely better than the Lerner badge.

From afar, the " dropshadow " definitely makes the yellow lion a bit more tolerable and defined.

Also, here me out, but I've just realised that the " yellow " actually stands out in the social media profiles.

Although, I'd much prefer the gold/yellow in claret.

I wonder if a part of the thinking is differentiating ourselves form the other " Claret and Blue " clubs substantially?

I really hope this isn't growing on me 😂.

It might partially be that I'm now in the " acceptance " stage of initial grief.

Sinc eit spooking like that is it, I want to see the full branding lineup, and will be hoping the Monochrome is what is used most the time.

    Yeah I agree....

I just seen them lined up and thought.. you know what... I quite like it.

    The mono looks tidy imo.

  2. I have shown the "new" badge to a few neutrals at work etc and all of them have said pretty much "yeah it's alright".. with a couple of my villa fans friends saying the same who are regulars but wouldn't know what a message board is let alone post on one. Some of them didn't even know about the proposed change but could probably tell you every goal scorer for the last 30 years.

Generally I think, if you post on a message board and get involve with online debates you are probably a more invested fan in these kind of matters but doesn't make you better or hardened. There are thousands that will think this is nice, thousands that don't give a toss but the ones that will get heard are the thousands on these boards who will represent the fan base cause that's the world we live in

I know plenty that didn't get the chance to vote on the last badge cause they dont follow everything on villa socials. Don't look at emails etc. Doesn't make it right how the club have handled it..... I just find it interesting cause I like design and branding.. most of the lads I go with don't give a toss and will go and buy merch whatever.

Well I suspect that I have 10 years + on you age wise for starters.  There's more to design than just colours but hey ho different people have different opinions.  I want a badge that shouts Villa at you immediately - for me the current badge doesn't do that.  I don't particularly like the leaked version either - both have missed a real opportunity (imo) to come up with something really iconic.

Reading your comments it sounds like you are in exactly the same place and just as frustrated as I am with the current round badge design. It's not that I hate it it's just that I want us to be unique...and not blend in with the literally about a dozen teams with the same template. Which is why I don't actually mind the "new" badge... Yeah I understand peoples comments on it but at least it's unique. (FWIW I'd rather just keep the recent Lerner version over all)

We can't walk around with a picture of us lifting the European cup in our pockets and pull out the badge anytime someone mentions our badge looks like Chelsea's. Like it or not most football fans in their early 30s/20s know us as a mid to bottom side that fights relegation and our current form is a flash. We remember the good times but the club don't care about our opinion... It's the future fans.. It's shirts hanging in shops in other countries and a brand on social media. (That's not to say I don't think our history shouldnt be taken into account of course) Unless we can incorporate "we had it first" on the round badge somewhere or go for a different format I am for a shield style.

  4. I am still finding it hard to believe that this is the badge.

But as much the proposed badge annoys some people, having a round badge in the current or 82 template annoys me.... It's just so alike to so many crests throughout the league and the comparison to Chelsea's will forever be there whether we had it first etc etc or not.

I totally agree with the change..not sure whether the supposed new one is the way to go. But it's defo more unique than the current.

But it's not a template for us, we had it before it became a template.

Not that anyone else will know/care.

We'll be lumped in the category of teams with template badges if we do it though.

    Meh

Yeah I get that…. I get the nostalgia and the reason why people are so in love with the round badge but keep it for the retro shirts etc.

  6. Solihull moors have just changed theirs to a round badge to massive criticism. I think it was unexpected.

Im really opposed to the round badge designs I have seen drawn up, people moan about identikit stadiums and Template kits. Yet we seem happy to go down a template badge route by the looks of it.

    I will repeat.

The Aston Villa 'crest' has only been round for about 17 years in our 148 year history. Therefore, a round badge is not traditional. It is nostalgic about TWO seasons. It would look like most other football team 'logos' these days however impressive we make it.

So disappointed it's nearly a given we're going back to a circle badge, Aston Villa should be shield.

Couldn’t agree more…. Sadly I think it will.

Here's last year's set of PL badges.

Round badges with simple font and picture are giving me the same vibes as template shirts.

It would obviously be Villa...but would it really be Villa if it's just the Chelsea badge in claret and blue, of Brentford but with a lion?

Absolutely agree… I don’t understand the want to look like 5 other badges in the prem but with different colours. Personally I’d like to see a re vamp of the 57 shield badge. Or maybe something a little simple like spurs design.

We pride our selves on our tradition and heritage…. traditionally we have had a shield.

  9. Great news…

I don’t understand the concern about there being a release clause tho. I have no doubt there is one and it’s there to protect us to make sure we get ridiculous money if he was to go.

  10. Kappa are Gucci compared.

I used to like the brand when Andy Murray was wearing and thought it looked quality. Haven’t been impressed since they started making football kits.

Personally I have liked kappa.. but this is a downgrade.

  11. To me, whether the decisions was Smiths or not from what we are led to believe… o’kelly and Terry leaving feels like it was the beginning of the end to me… they seemed like well respected and good guys to have around which obviously had an influence with the good team spirit which seems to have disappeared. We have a coach for everything now and feel like it’s a too many cooks situation. The players are clearly struggling to get to grips with systems that are trying to be implemented… whether this is a transition period that should be bared with who knows right now. But what I’m certain of personally is smiths decision to drop Mings smacked of a manager trying to prove to fans he wasn’t afraid to make a decision like that and it felt wrong. Yea mings has his critics but the whole team has been making mistakes at the moment and the captain is not the fall guy right now. Our team over the last 2/3 years has been built on it team work and togetherness.. huge cracks. I’m pointing my fingers at the men either side of DS at the moment…they probably need time themselves but just doesn’t feel right.

The bigger challenge if he goes will be who to sign? With our current budget plus an extra £100m on top, we could be looking at another 3 or 4 top quality players to join Buendia. We may become a better, more rounded team, that isn't reliant on one player so much. It may work out better? Just trying to find positives!

I totally believe this....of course I want him to stay. But genuinely believe we can become a team from it if we can and we will invest well on the back of it. We massively relied on him last year, almost too much at times. We can’t replace him.... but we can get a couple of quality players that will and like you say become a more rounded squad.

And he hold on to the ball too much anyway. 😆

Let’s be honest, Kappa have been shite.

Will be good to see the back of them and actually have some quality kits, gear and merchandise…

Can’t deny the quality issues as you have shown... but like it has been stated I don’t think that’s down to them but fanatics. I have a few kappa items and I haven’t had problems but that’s not to say they didn’t exist. I am more referring to the designs them selves I have liked them... and the training gear.

One of the reasons the luke kit is so fondly remembered is because it was outside the box with its design.. not the standard and often demanded claret body blue sleeves...... I just really wish we would go out side the box more often as some of our finest shirt designs have been away from the norm and has produced some of our classics.

I think it is likely we get adidas because Nassef is a large shareholder (like 15-20% which is the largest at the company) so he would have some sway when it comes to deals like that I imagine. Although it could also be a conflict of interest and he isn't allowed to do that.

That’s the thing yeah, people are assuming that just because he is a major share holder that Adidas is a Shoe in... I’m not sure it’s that straight forward, I wouldn’t be that disappointed if it wasn’t as long as it is not a backward or side ways step....and we aren’t getting templates.
