Very sad to hear that Dad’s Army actor and big Villa fan Ian Lavender has passed away aged 77. RIP.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68204488
QuoteThe Dad's Army actor Ian Lavender, who played Private Pike in the hit TV series, has died at the age of 77.
Birmingham-born Lavender was just 22 when he was cast as the guileless platoon member, in what was then a new BBC sitcom.
But it made him a household name, and he ended up spending 10 years as part of the comedy classic.

That’s the fella. Something of a celebrity at Villa games back in the day.

I initially misread this thread title as “Growling Fanbase” and assumed it might be about the legendary , who used to attend virtually all Villa games home and away certainly in the 1990s, but into the 2000s and beyond too. Anyone else remember him? Often seen wearing a toy police helmet and with “We’ve got a Villa werewolf” written across the back of his jacket.
He once stole my sandwich on an away trip to Selhurst Park.
Anyway, I digress….

I thought the Maupay one was an absolute stonewall penalty.
Stonewall my arse, never a penalty. If that gets given it’s time to throw the towel in for the game as we know it. Just can’t abide cheating little shits like Maupay.

IIRC, folk were skeptical when us hibees were saying you've got a player potentially as good as milner or possibly barry...what are the views now? (Apologies if this is coming across as smug, we're just so f***ing proud of him)
You were absolutely right.

Those last 15 minutes or so were a one man self-destruct mission from Trippier. Two shocking errors then played the man onside for the third.

sorry fella, he was in it from 1961 to 1983 and thought you might get deliberate joke reference to Fairclough who was the Liverpool super sub around the same time, one for the 50 plus VT'ers

Good grief VT.
Everyone please go to the bathroom and have a wank.

I took you up on your advice. I have to say, after the first two, the ride was harder work than it really should have been.

Nice to see Marv get a good reception today, and good to see him applaud the Villa fans when he was subbed in the second half. Top bloke.

I always find it odd when we pick on fans based on the way they look. I get we hate blues and all that, but fair play to them for spending money going to watch their local team on a Tuesday night, even if it is Blues.
I get that there are no rocket scientists in that picture, but just feels low always digging out people on appearance.Dunno, maybe I've just grown out of it all.
Surely though you can’t argue with the fact that they look several rungs below most of the rest of humanity on the evolutionary scale?
As in more Australopithecus or Cro-Magnon man than your modern-day Homo Sapiens?

And to think that Leeds fans were once raging because Watkins got picked for England ahead of him

You need to ask yourself what kond of mental mind state he will be in while no verdict given. Im not sure if he can rely on him until he is cleared or proven guilty.
I would imagine traore might start gettin more game time now

Brilliant news. Ollie’s new contract is yet another huge statement of intent from a club that’s on the up. We’ve tied so many key players down to new long term contracts - a real shift from being resigned to the fact that your top players will move on when one of the Sky 6 come sniffing.
From the top down, the club is in the best shape it’s been for years. Good times.

I must admit I've been guilty of overlooking his ability in the past. Every time I have doubted him he's crammed it down my throat, and I'm so glad he has. He's Villa.

Have no idea why people watch MOTD. Think Des Lynam was presenting last time I consciously tuned in.
3 min highlights are available on Youtube within 30 mins of the game ending.
It’s invaluable for me.
It’s my excuse to stay up late on a Saturday night and carry on drinking and knock one out when the wife’s gone to bed.

I’d also put my mortgage on this not being the case. I’ve worked at a few employers in Birmingham City Centre over the last 30 years and at each one Villa fans have massively outnumbered Blues fans.
I know that a fundamental flaw to this argument is that it’s based on Blues fans who are employed, but in my experience, having been born in Birmingham and lived here all my life, I see more Villa fans then Blues across all walks of life.
