Agreed, WHATEVER happens this season he should not get a new contract. Hopefully at the end of this season we will have been promoted and will be a premier league team - Gabby is not good enough at that level. What I would like to see is a decent return from him this coming season as payback for what he owes us, meaning that he can finish his Villa career on a high and piss off into the sunset.

Shocked that this has happened, and the speed that it has happened. I like Baker, never going to set the world on fire, and not good enough at PL level, but would have liked for him to win the Championship with us (hopefully), but disappointing to see him leaving and I do wish him all the best. Will receive a warm welcome when he visits VP.

I agree it is great news, i just hate that sort of meaningless management speak....

A massive amount of management bullshit in that.... Wonder what their strategic goals are? what is fan engagement? are we all about to be getting spam emails trying to sell us Hi-Sense products? Do we get a free TV with every season ticket? What is sponsorship maximization (bigger logos on the shirts?), brand presence I get (expect VP to be plastered with their logos), and what are these tangible returns that they will be getting? Obviously money... but..... Don't get me wrong - I am really happy that we have a commercial team now that seem to have an idea what they are doing, and the foundations are starting to look good - I just hate buzzword announcements like that, which don't really say anything. But yeah, go Tone, anything that brings money into the club and builds our presence/profile is great.

As someone said above, more like 1 in 7 over the last few years....... I do agree he has been average, admittedly there were a couple of seasons when he looked pretty good, and to be honest, he was shining in the 08-09 season up front on his own and we and he were flying. Really thought that he could be the next great thing. He scored 11 goals that season. Then we signed Heskey and changed the shape of the team to accommodate him, and then everything went downhill from there. Over the past 4 years, Gabby has been nothing short of a joke and has been a very lucky boy to still be at the club. That said, we are not going to be able to offload him this season - and maybe just maybe he will be of use to us, so we should use him as it suits us. I hate seeing him in my teams colours, but if we are paying him, we may as well get something back. Just to add - Emile's career average is 1 goal in every 4.0 games (better than Gabbys!). How many people would welcome him back??? (forgetting his age for a moment).
