  1. At the start of the season my aspirations for Villa were to qualify for Europe again, and go far in the ECL. We’ve done that already, and with a really bad string of injuries. What we have and will still achieve is brilliant, and even if we only finish 5th and get knocked out in the semis, I’ll still be really pleased with the season. Obviously I still want us to get fourth and win the ECL, I believe we will tbh. But if we don’t, it’s not the doom scenario that some are making out. Apart from possibly having to sell a player to provide spending room, I cannot see Watkins or Martinez asking to leave. We are a club on the rise, and they have both improved immensely under Unai. Everyone improves with Emery, that’s why we are now a very attractive proposition for players. We are not about to see a bunch of the first team kick off and demand to leave because we didn’t get Champions League at first time of asking.
  2. Looks like some of the houses on the adjacent Holte Road have already begun to be erased… a few more to go and the land is Villa’s! Mwahhahahah!
  3. Diaby hasn’t been that bad in his first season, he’s got a reasonable goal contribution return and has scored some excellent goals. He’s played his part in the team’s success, a top four team don’t forget. He’ll improve next season I’m sure of it. But I do wish we’d get him on the shoulder of defenders more running into space, he’s quick and a good finisher but we’re not seeing those characteristics as much.
  4. The stuff of nightmares for those of a French persuasion.
  5. The injury list often gets overlooked by people outside of the club, it’s barely ever recognised or acknowledged tbh. That’s partly down to the fact Unai never complains about it and never blames injuries for defeats. He breeds a genuine ‘no excuse’ culture into the squad and makes every player feel valued. Plenty more coaches whinge about their injuries and the media plaster it everywhere. We operate somewhat under the radar, just how Unai likes it.
  6. Took me a few watches to spot him. He proper loves it but still keeps himself in the background, unlike a certain donkey toothed scouse manager who would almost certainly be on the pitch muscling in on the action.
  7. I love this man so much and I think he loves Villa too. Can’t see him wanting to go anywhere else any time soon, he’s not achieved his goals with us yet. The wave he’s riding has nowhere near peaked.
  8. I’m not worried about Tottenham’s extra rest, it doesn’t always guarantee success in the first match back. How many times have we seen teams’ form drop off after an international break, for example. Like Emery has said, he prefers us to play twice a week as it keeps the intensity up and we can implement changes quickly. Villa are in good form right now, I’d rather play Bournemouth while we are still buzzing than have a week off to potentially go off the boil.
  9. We can do this, just needed to get to the break and let Emery work his magic now. Football is boring when it’s easy, and we’re making this as hard as possible. Let’s get it done now, UTV.
  10. Martinez saves with his cheek, he’ll be fine but will also give us a breather. We need to wake up now
  11. Feel like Digne could have done more there. Time to step up again now Villa, back to square one.
  12. Good atmosphere, I’m confident our boys led by Emi can handle it and embrace it.
  13. It’s nice to hear the TNT pundits being so complementary to Villa, I know it’s Hutton and Sidwell who both have a lot of time for us but the presenter is openly wanting us to win. I don’t think you’d get that from Sky tbh.
  14. I know we should probably keep it tight and absorb Lille’s attacks early on, we have the lead and should protect it. However, I hope we come out all guns blazing and blow them away by half time, be much better for the nerves.
  15. Absolutely! If eating six meals a day and falling asleep by midnight counts
  16. I can’t wait for this tonight, it promises to be great game and I don’t care what people say about the Conference League, it’s a European semi final that awaits the winner. The standard isn’t that much below the Europa League, and it would be an honour to win it, and great experience for this team in actually getting silverware over the line. I’ve just come back from Athens and having spoken to an Olympiacos fan I would say it’s only the plastic fans of the super league suckers that dismiss the ECL, because elsewhere in Europe, people are loving it. The Olympiacos lad is confident they will do the job in Besiktas, and really wants Villa in the next round. With a bit of luck Villa will get two trips to Athens, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go back again but if you get chance to go and support Villa there I can only imagine how good it would/will be.
  17. I couldn’t watch the game but having seen the score just want to say Up The F***** Villa!!!!
  18. Im away on holiday and not really following life back home, but **** me, tottingham! Hopefully that eases a few jitters. There’s plenty of twists and turns to come but this puts us right back in it.
  19. This thread has taken a glorious turn for the better this last week I’m still not 100% confident they will go, just need one final plunge to get it round the bend now. Then we get to witness small heath’s rise to the top to claim the biggest club in town, the 60k £3bn seat master plan, but in League One
