I was today years old when I found out that Kellogg’s was an American company. All my life to this point I thought it was British.

Started as a health food too.

    EO 120% Salah, 160% Ronaldo, 98% Antonio..

I can't really complain but it's annoying me. Lot of content creators on Twitter etc now and it's such an easy game to just copy someone, which I think a lot of people are doing. Rotation of City and Chelsea has changed the dynamic of the game a bit too much and everyone is locked into a fairly template team.

Chelsea are yet to concede from open play and the ownership on their defenders are shockingly low, purely due to rotation. I think that kind of sucks, maybe they need to increase the budget and make the bench bigger.

I reckon ppl will start getting Chelsea defenders after the City game when their fixtures swing. I've got my eyes on either Rudi or Alonso.

Not really sure whether to put this in the Gym routine thread or start a new thread (mods - please move if I got it wrong!)

Anyone one here do Martial Arts as opposed to a normal gym routine? I've been doing Shotokan Karate (always loved watching the Karate guys in the UFC - Machida, Thompson, GSP, Raymond Daniels (Bellator)). Absolutely love it. It's bloody tough but it's quickly become a big part of my life and something I genuinely look forward to whenever I go.

No, but I have been known to start shadow boxing between sets like an absolute nutter.

Captaining Salah and just bringing in Antonio for Bamford. Feel I might be missing a trick not bringing Sarr in for Raphinha or captaining Ronaldo but I don't want to be cheering on Ronaldo tomorrow - or at least taking solace from an arse whupping, and if I bring Sarr in I'll want Raphinha back the week after and I've a decent-ish sub. So meh, it might work it might not. I've been lucky 'going for it' so far, but I feel this is a week where a bit of inactivity will be better than over-activity.

Why Salah over Antonio? I'm currently 60/40 leaning the other way due to Brentford defence performing better then Leeds at the moment but I'm flip flopping.

Anyone else watched Squid Game on Netflix? I am 3 episodes in. Weird as **** at times but overall keeps you entertained.

It's next on my list so hoping it's good.

From the tiny bits I know about it already it does seem like a remake of Battle Royale which is a great film.

As for phone cover that depends on the phone. When I dropped my phone last year and cracked the screen it would have been the price of a new phone to repair it (yes, it's Apple) so the couple of quid a month for insurance on that is well worth it. I don't wantt o fork out for a new phone when I drop my current one a few months into owning it.

I was tempted by getting insurance on my mobile when I first got it due to the cost of replacing and was quoted about £4 a month.

I decided to just buy a Spigen cover for it for about a tenner. I've dropped it several times, including from a decent height and so far so good.

Not far off, I'm having one in two weeks, £1100 with all the associated bits.

And I'm currently in a queue to cancel my British Gas homecare boiler cover as

    a) new boiler has a parts and labour warranty for 7 years and

    b) I've found out BG have been servicing the boiler for years in our new place but not checking the flue as it's inaccessible. And saying they have.

Don't think I've ever got the homecare option. Just pay for an annual service. Not overly keen on those at £60-70 a go just to say 'yeah, it's only 12 months old so it's fine'.

British Gas have had some bad rep on here lately but I've just been pleasantly surprised by them.

Due to my own inability to keep my personal finances in order I realised that I've been paying for their homecare service (boiler insurance basically) for 2 years after i sold the property that I needed it for.

So I phoned them up to cancel it and as for a refund for the months I've paid and haven't used it.

I expected a fight to be honest. I assumed they'd say it was my fault I didn't cancel it (I think i did but I have no proof) and assumed I MIGHT be able to get a refund of say half as a goodwill gesture but even that might be pushing it.

They've refunded me the lot. £955. Pretty much zero questions asked. Just checked that I hadn't actually used the service so I wasn't pulling a fast one and said it'll go through in 7 days.

    Pleasantly surprised!

Good to get that back. £955 sounds a lot for 2 years cover though. Could get a brand new boiler for that much.

I like how Australia, all of Africa and most of Asia is just blank... like no one knows. Maybe Australian’s get married, we don’t know, and frankly we don’t want to know.

That's because in Australia it's 'down under'.

Right now it’s bad enough to at least take a full week off the gym. The pain is kind of radiating to the hip, which is bad news.

Not good. I've had some minor back and hip issues, usually muscle related though so I can manage with stretching and recovery work. Hopefully the same for you and not anything worse.

I've had issues and physio on my knees and shoulders though. Some RSI, some cartilage, some broken bones and never fun but manageable.

He had to change his name to Ben after the unfortunate «Scuba Steve» incident. True story.

Your point about muscle gains=improved fat burn is theoretically true, and probably works for a lot of people. However, my appetite tends to skyrocket when I lift weights and I find it more difficult to control weightloss. My far most effective weightloss was done on heavy cals cutting and cardio. Went from 105kg to 85kg in 2 1/2 months. This was four years ago. I’ve since gained 5kg pure muscle and am in the best shape of my life (apart from a terrible back.)

I still don't know what the story is about scuba steve.

Everybody is different in how they react and what works best for them, it's important to try things and find what works (whilst giving it time to actually see if it does work). If the maintenance calories are high enough then there's no need to try and build up a baseline to work with. Even if not trying to bulk up first (not a great term to use here but you know what I mean), I'd still recommend some basic weightlifting for the reasons I outlined above.

Hoping that the backs not too bad.

I guess it's more directed at players who run their contract down to a year and the team decides they have to cash in.  Clubs almost never say Ok, we will let you go on a free because you fulfilled your contract with us and we are thankful for your service.  At best they will take a lesser amount and let the fans hate the player for a lack of loyalty in not signing a contract (whilst also hate them for signing a contract that has favourable terms for the player as well). Mbappe at PSG seems like an outlier in that they think it's worth letting him go for nothing if it means a season of him with Neymar and Messi together.  I have to say Haaland doesn't come across as a particularly nice person but his Dad got his career ended deliberately by a scumbag so I can understand him wanting the absolute best terms he can get.

There's also no certainty that the club will be able to sell them when there's only 12 months left to run on the contract. The player knows that if they wait 6 months they can then sign a pre-contract somewhere overseas and pocket the transfer fee for themselves.

Holy shit, go to a professional.

Hey VT, what you reckon about this huge weeping mole on my back?

I jest, partially.  This is a very open forum and I'm amazed at some of the stuff that people write (about very personal issues), fair play, but when reading this one back it feels like a "humble brag" almost.

"I know what the lads will love, an open relationship offer from the missus"

I'm kinda sat here thinking, shit dude, it's obvious there's been a real life one-to-one here between two people.. life changing really.. I wouldn't be airing it, if it was me, but y'know, I'm not good looking and successful and have a miniscule of respect for my wife, so there's that.

Good luck to the happy couple, whatever the outcome.

It wouldn't be where I'd talk about it myself but perhaps it felt like a safe space, somewhere familiar, where relationships and friendships have been developed but still far enough away (i.e. Talking with strangers) to not feel embarrassed to bring the subject up. People post all sorts of stuff and problems on various forums that they wouldn't know how to talk to about with their friends or family. It took me a very long time to build up the courage to get professional help when I was dealing with extreme anxiety and depression, and even longer to be able to talk about it to my friends or family. I was happy to seek advice and help online though as it felt safe. Only two people know everything that is going on in this relationship.

As week 7 gets closer I'm looking at the possibility of maybe not using the WC for it. I think if I do use it I'm more likely to go at week 8 now instead. Apart from the fact it gives me the international break, it brings Man City's fixtures (BUR bri CRY) into play, and to a lesser extent Villa (WOL ars WES sou BRI cry) and Southampton (LEE BUR wat AST nor) too. I can cover Chelsea's week 7 with a double FT. But the closer I get to swapping Ronaldo for Lukaku, the more nervous I am about the switch :)

The international break is going to be an interesting one. Always throws up the odd injury but I'm curious how many players are going to travel and if a lot will stay at their clubs or not.

I usually try to plan several weeks ahead but this season just seems more crazy than usual with injuries or new transfers and I'm struggling not to rip up my plans.
