  1. I know this should be in the pre match thread but I think some of his responses reveal something deeper about him as a coach. First, his pride and confidence in his own abilities (experience in Europe and the like) is palpable. Second, our previous poor performances in the competition irk him and he wants the players to be disappointed with them too. Third, his English is tremendously good now: he is able to express much deeper thoughts and really command these press conferences
  2. Can someone set up a GoFundMe page to remove Jack Woodward's vocal cords. Surely this would raise millions in small payments from grateful fans, desperate to end his *in Woodward's voice* 'dulcet tones'. More potential cost savings/income growth schemes: 1. stopping the helium supply to the guy on VTV who interviews Unai and the players. 2. Clawing back 1% of this guy's wages each time he asks the same question but worded slightly differently in an interview.
  3. Not going to pretend that I know anything about Ajax atm, but Skysports tells me that they're fifth in their league, four points behind AZ. Last two matches have been the first clean sheets they've seen for a while: 03.03.24 Ajax 2 - 0 FC Utrecht 25.02.24 AZ 2 - 0 Ajax 22.02.24 FK Bodø/Glimt 1 - 2 Ajax 18.02.24 Ajax 2 - 2 NEC 15.02.24 Ajax 2 - 2 FK Bodø/Glimt 11.02.24 SC Heerenveen 3 - 2 Ajax 03.02.24 Ajax 1 - 1 PSV 27.01.24 Heracles Almelo 2 - 4 Ajax 21.01.24 Ajax 4 - 1 RKC Waalwijk 14.01.24 Go Ahead Eagles 2 - 3 Ajax 07.01.24 Ajax 2 - 1 Hannover 96 21.12.23 USV Hercules 3 - 2 Ajax 17.12.23 Ajax 2 - 2 PEC Zwolle 14.12.23 Ajax 3 - 1 AEK Athene 09.12.23 Ajax 2 - 1 Sparta Rotterdam 06.12.23 RKC Waalwijk 2 - 3 Ajax In short, they're not what they used to be.
  4. Moment before the third goal where Watkins told Cash that he wanted the ball more often on the floor, rather than high balls going into the channel. Made me think that Cash has two approaches he takes more often than not: 1. goes for a dinked ball over the top. 2. Feigns to go forward but sweeps the ball back. I know the latter is a product of a system that attempts to keep possession, but I wonder if he’s being told to keep things simple as he tends to be a bit loose with the ball when given more freedom?
  5. What gets me about Unai is that we all know that the second half tonight wasn’t good enough. With other managers, i’d be worried that they’d settle for the first half showing and move on, but you just know Unai has seen that weakness and will analyse the sh*t out of it. So when we rescue three points from these awful moments performance-wise, it’s always in the back of my head that Unai can use it as a genuine learning experience. I’m probably being a bit bleary eyed but I don’t know if I’ve ever had such faith in a manager before.
  6. Glad he got a rest today. Need him for the run in.
  7. He had a look about him in the first half that was utterly frightening: the shimmies, the first touch, the turn: classy player, brimming with confidence. When he’s playing like that, he’s a joy to watch and enhances us as a team no end.
  8. Refereeing in this match is atrocious. Defending ain’t much better
  9. The sense of entitlement among their fans and, especially, figures in the media (former players and the like) is remarkable. As if they should have some right to be top 4, maybe more. It’s like Alan Hansen et al in the 90s constantly banging on about Liverpool, despite them getting nowhere near the title for decades. It’s so long since Fergie’s time that any idea that there’s a ‘United way’ or anything unique about their DNA is obviously a myth. Divorced from that mythology, the fact is the only thing they have is the FFP flexibility that their previous success has bought them. Ignore the history and the media desperation for them to succeed and one can see that United are punching above their weight. Glazers ruined them, players don’t care, managers have been a disaster, throwing good money after bad.
  10. Imagine if this guy hits some form. Adding a few more goals for us would be such a boost.
  11. This. We've seen less talented footballers have far longer careers because they manage themselves more effectively. What I hate is that people are assuming all of this is witness to Pep's brilliance: Pep has one form of management and, in the long run, it hasn't worked with Jack. Citeh knew what he was like when they bought him.
  12. I think Spurs have the better run of games tbh, but they’ll need to pick up at least three points extra than us (assuming they win their game in hand). Here are the remaining fixtures: ours appear on the left of the list and the Spurs games in the right: / Chelsea - A Luton - A / Palace - H Spuds - H / Villa - A West Spam - A / Fulham - A Wolves - H / Luton - H Citeh - A / Spam - A Brentford - H / Forest - H Arsenal - A / Toon - A Bournemouth - H / Citeh - H Chelsea - H / Arsenal - H Brighton - A / Liverpool - A Liverpool - H / Burnley - H Palace - A / sheff utd - A Too close to call for me and there’s a long way to go.
  13. Watkins is enjoying how they’re playing him. Relishing the battle
  14. Hendrie: ‘Unai Emery must be over the moon’ *camera switches to Unai* *doesn’t look content* man is a machine
  15. A word on McGinn’s whipped in cross and Cash switching the play beforehand. Fantastic
  16. Hendrie on Elanga: ‘he stretches those legs open’ What you watching, Lee?!!!
  17. I took a course in town called ‘angry Spanish guy 101’
  18. Two v intelligent footballers. Probably playing in silence after drawing tactical outlines in the style of Monet. So classy they should be in a museum
  19. I wonder if Digne was saying something disrespectful about Forest or not taking it seriously and Emery wants more professionalism even from the bench
  20. Nuno wearing the Forest pyjamas they gave him when he signed
