  1. Me too. I remember the crowds and how scary it was in those days. The crush was the worst I have ever been in.

    Brad Young

Carlisle United can confirm that Villa forward Brad Young has returned to his parent club following a half-season loan stay at Brunton Park. The 18-year-old joined the Blues in the middle of August and made his debut in the 0-0 away draw at Port Vale. He bagged three goals in 20 appearances, making a total of 10 starts in all competitions. Manager Keith Millen said: “Brad is a lad I’ve enjoyed working with. He puts in the effort in training and responded well when I first came into the club. "I started him and Tristan in the first few games and he worked really hard. He struggled to score the goals, but we’ve struggled to get goals from all of our forwards this season. “I felt that I need to freshen up my front line. I couldn’t guarantee him a starting place, but that’s the same for everyone. "I spoke to Aston Villa a number of times and we discussed what was best for the player and his future. We mutually agreed that if he wasn’t going to get enough game time then it would be best for him to go back to Villa. “It’s hard for an 18-year-old lad to be so far away from home but not be playing as much as he would like, I understand that, and I wouldn’t want anyone to be up here and not happy. “We obviously wish him well. It will be a good experience for him, it’s his first loan and whether he looks back on it as a good or bad experience, he’ll definitely have learned from it. "I’m sure if he keeps working hard he’s got a bright future.”
  3. A bit off topic but a monthly optimism gauge for each player on a monthly basis would make interesting reading. would it add a bit of balance to the nonsense on some of the player threads?

Such a shame to see a sixteen year old child with a tattoo. Illegal for it to be done in the uk unless you are over 18. Perhaps he had it done in Spain. I hope that he receives a lot of guidance and support from the club so that he becomes a role model for those less gifted and makes better choices than other young millionaire teenagers have in the past. In fact quite a few connected to our club. On the footballing front I hope he fulfils the talent he obviously has and wish him all the best.
  5. Went to the Walsall V Carlisle game and saw Mckirdy play. He was very influential. Always looked dangerous and likely to beat a man. He was brought down after breaking through leading to a sending off and scored the winning goal with a looping header in extra time to win the match. I think he’s capable of playing at a higher standard.

Made a couple of bad mistakes but I still thought he was immense and battled for every ball against tough opponents. His distribution gives us options with long balls we haven’t always had.
  7. Not quite there yet, but yesterday was a tough one and I think he and El ghazi both battled hard with litttle success. Thought his assist was magnificent. He hadn’t given it up as the Wednesday defender had and that attitude will serve him well.
  8. Watched this in amongst the home fans with my friend who lives in Sheffield and is a Wednesday season ticket holder. I and they thought the Villa support was fantastic. Wednesday were a tough team to beat and I would have been delighted to have drawn 1-1. i thought the injuries played a big part in this game. If Hause had not gone off I don’t think we would have given them so many second half chances and if Bannan hadn’t gone off we may not have got up the field so well at the end. This was the first game I’ve seen live since our run started and was really impressed with the strength in central defence, the energy of McGinn and the overall work rate of the team. Some of the fear has gone and players have started to play balls into forward spaces rather than pass sideways. we now also have a lot of players who can score goals for us. good game to watch and the right result

Help
  10. Some really useful spreadsheets on this topic. Can we have them posted on the main site? It would be Interesting to see what actually happens in the next 6 matches to all the sides. I’m a spreadsheet nut too! Maybe we should get out more?
  11. Come on man. This is a fan forum. Where are the four letter words? Where are the inarticulate ravings? Are you still sober? This is far too erudite! Any more like this and I will report the post!
  12. I think his work rate and speed at closing down defenders was very valuable. At this level putting defenders under pressure causes them to make mistakes and turn over possession. I don’t see us pressing and getting the ball back as quickly lately. We give the opposition too much time and space. Our slow build up play and poor passing usually sideways didn’t help him. we now have lots of forwards who have all to play for. can’t wait to see who takes their opportunities.
  13. I threw the cabbage! oh and I am Spartacus!
  14. I am viewing vt on an iPad and keep getting hijacked by this site. I have done the usual deleting of safari history to no avail. This only happens on VT. This may not be a site issue but can anyone help please.
  15. I think we may well have seen two of the teams to be relegated this season here today. For us there were some positives. the defense looked better and more organised, the team are fighting for the ball more and tracking back better (well they hardly used to at all). some individuals look to have promise albeit they will have to show it off in the championship next year, or go elsewhere. however, nobody on the wings trying to take on the full backs, too many sideways balls, no attacking force, nobody making runs. At this stage and in the position we are in just not good enough.
  16. Just an observation about the comparisons on here with Fellani and Pelle. Yes it would be good to have players of that calibre and we should have them but it's unfair to compare a guy from Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers who has just stepped up to the premiership with a team who were consistently battling relegation even before we lost arguably our three best players with these two guys. Pelle played for Palma and Samapadoria before playing 48 games for Southampton in the Premiership. Fellani has played 140 odd games for Everton and 48 for Man. U surrounded by good players. he has getting on for 100 international caps. he cost 27 million quid! Gestede has a lot to learn and like many of Villa's signings is a player who may, or may not make it. He has been thrown in at the deep end!
  17. I was surprised by the team selection yesterday which put him and Hutton in the side together, but could see the logic of it and I thought it worked a lot better than whatever is going on on the left of our defence/midfield. I think he deserves his place in the team albeit that our midfield looks quite lightweight and needs more strength in the centre defensive position.
  18. On a couple of occasions yesterday we saw flashes of what Gabby can do. One of them led to a rare shot at goal and the other the goal. The trouble yesterday wais that because of age or fitness he was off the pace of the game and didn't contribute enough. I wasn't sure what his role was to be honest and saw him playing very deep and not supporting Gestede or Ayew who like it or not are the future fore us. There may be a role for him as a sub, or in a different formation but he didn't fit in yesterday.
  19. Guy is clearly a talent on the ball. He will of course not be staying with us long and while he is here he is vital to us. He still has lots to learn. I thought yesterday he often slowed up play by not releasing the ball early enough and not playing with his head up. i was surprised at how forward he was played yesterday but thought he pressed well and got involved. Did well for the goal.
  20. I thought he did well yesterday. He put himself about got plenty of headed flick ons but didn't have anyone near him or running off him and there weren't enough crosses from wide. In a poor side the cf is always going to look ineffective. Look at Benteke for most of last year. He may or may not be able to be a star player at this level in the future, I don't know, but for a bottom side fighting relegation he is ok and he is probably one of the least of our problems.
  21. First match I've been to this season, very similar to watching last year's team. Guzan ok, beaten by good free kick. 6. Hutton - good game 7 Richards - ok but got a bit carried away 6 Lescott - poor, slow. 4 Richardson - ok up to the last period then done for pace 5 Bacuna - ok 5 Gana - good but overwhelmed in midfield. 6 Grealish - ok but needs to move the ball quicker. 5 Ayew - great game today 7 Gabby - off the pace but tries and laid on the goal 5 Gehstede needs support 6 manager 5 Richardson, Lescot and Gabby just don't have the pace at this level any more and shouldn't be exposed to this. We need to stiffen the midfield and have a more defensive minded player in there and subs to come on when people tire. our centre forward needs support and quality balls into him. We need to break forward much quicker and we need to decide how to deploy our creative players. Grealish, Ayew, Bacuna. our manager needs to decide on a settled team and gamble his job on them. Defensive players especially. Must improve use of substitutes. Today again that killed us.
  22. I went on a Villa Park tour earlier this year and it was clear to me that the message which the PR gurus had sold to the owners were: villa are a heritage brand We are European Cup Winners To which they add 'part of and contributing to our local community' spin. Each of us will have our own memories usually formed in our youth of what the Club means to us. A shared loyalty to 'the shirt' and the tingle down the back of the neck I get walking past Aston Hall and see the floodlights does it for me.

    hi

I first supported Villa when the team was in division 3. I recall walking to the ground from the city centre down the expressway while it was being built. my heroes were Charlie Aitken,Bruce Rioch, Ray Graydon, Dennis Mortimer, John Gidman, David Platt, Brian Little, Andy Gray and many more. Then real life took over and fast forward to last season when I took my son to his first match. it had to be Villa Park and it was the cup match against Bournmouth. so here I am.
