  1. Fair point but champions league qualification would be a huge difference between the two seasons. For me, a European trophy would always have more prestige than the league cup but appreciate others may feel differently. Either way it will be a standout season
  2. This is getting silly now. We will finish a minimum of fifth. Hopefully four wins will be enough to get us fourth. If we get the extra champions league spot then that means we can fully prioritize the conference league semi finals and final which would make us huge favorites to win that trophy. A trophy and champions league qualification would be our best season since we won the European Cup and the best thing would be that we all know that Emery is just getting started.
  3. It may not work for you but it clearly worked for Emery and I suspect he knows more about football than all of us will ever know in our lifetimes combined.
  4. Assuming Ramsey is still not fit the big question is who plays to support Luiz, McGinn and Tielemans in midfield. Do we go with Zaniolo or Rogers to match physicality of Brentford or do we play our own game and go with Diaby. I’d probably prefer to start with Diaby as he could win us the game as per wolves.
  5. From what I can see he played well despite the pathetic defending in the wall. He’s playing a very important squad role when you consider his goals v west ham, performance v wolves etc. Helping to manage the absence of Ramsey.
  6. Yep. No sense at all in risking it all when the upside was one point v city and we’re not in the title race versus prioritizing 3 points v Brentford and winning the first leg v Lille. Absolute no brainer and Spurs gifted us the opportunity to take the “free hit” with their draw v west ham.
  7. We may well need his physicality against this dirty Brentford team
  8. Some games are far more winnable than others. No point in risking it all for 1 point v city when we only have to win 4 games v Brentford, Bournemouth, Chelsea and pick up a win somewhere else. Emery’s the very accomplished and successful professional here and he made the call on his 20 years+ experience at the highest levels. He’s made it abundantly clear through this selection that our aim now is to secure champions league qualification (I suspect he doesn’t really care if it’s 5th if we get the extra place) and to win the conference league.
  9. That penguins like cornflakes for dinner. It’s complete bollocks. Especially when you consider that under our winning run at the end of last season we pretty much always lost on XG.
  10. Fortunately games are won on grass not in excel. They should invent a meaningless stat that defines “grit” as you’ll have seen plenty of that in recent games. The ridiculousness of xG as the king of stats is shown by the wolves game. They had one chance and apart from 20 minutes we totally controlled that game barely getting out of third gear at times. XG would tell you a very different and incorrect story though.
  11. Most of the players live in Bahrain and commute due to the more relaxed rules there. For 500k+ week tax free for 3 to 4 years I think he’d be absolutely fine.
  12. Some wishful thinking going on in this thread. Jack’s transfer was the rare deal that worked for all three parties and all three would do the same deal again 100 times over. Jack will make over 150m from the deal (including the endorsements he’s since signed) and will get another mega deal no doubt when he leaves for Saudi or whichever club can afford him next and he played a key role in winning the treble. Man city won the treble and marketed the crap out of Jack. They’ve made a lot of their outlay back in commercial deals and shirts etc. We were desperate for the money in hindsight and had to sell or we would have had severe PSR issues. 100m was a kings ransom and allowed us to rebuild. Good luck to him but we probably couldn’t afford him back even if we wanted him and the reality is that there are better value deals to be done.
  13. It’s going to be a thunder bastard of a goal or a red card or maybe both. The footballing equivalent of a bag of revels. What’s not to like!
  14. Totally moot conversation as it’s not going to happen and the hall will fall into disrepair in any case considering how broke the council is.
  15. Keep it as tight as we can for as long as we can with Bailey, Diaby and Duran given license to rampage on the break. If we get to half time at 0-0 the crowd will turn after their performance v Arsenal.
  16. We basically just need two wins and it becomes pretty much impossible for man utd to get past us unless they go on a ridiculous win nearly every game type of run which they are just not going to do.
  17. It would be typical man utd this season to somehow shit house a win v Liverpool but then lose to sheff Utd
  18. Man Utd have Chelsea away and Liverpool at home in the next week. If they win both of those and we only get one point out of man city and Brentford we will still effectively be 7 points ahead with 6 games remaining. Any discussion regarding Man Utd will hopefully be confirmed as being academic come the end of the weekend.
  19. We’ll have a much clearer view after this round of games. 2 English v German ties so we have to hope west ham and Arsenal get through.
  20. We’re a bit naive to this. We don’t make enough of the oppositions consistent fouls and then make stupid fouls in front of the ref that get punished. Overall though our discipline has been very good. The only exceptions being the ridiculous antics at Brentford and McGinn losing his head v spurs.
  21. Signs are promising but he needs to do a lot more over the remainder of the season to earn a permanent move.
  22. I disagree. Arsenal just showed they can go away to a very dangerous team and lock the whole game down. Very boring yes but a tactical masterclass from Arteta and very disciplined from the players. They’ll be looking to do exactly the same v Bayern away.
  23. I think it’s his fitness record and the big wages he’ll be on. He’s a very solid fourth choice CB if he can stay fit. The 4 CB should be Pau, Konsa, Mings, Carlos and then add a fifth young high potential CB if Feeney is still a few years away (subject to PSR and all that).
  24. His heart has fallen out of it at Brighton this season after the big sales last summer but make no mistake he’d be a great appointment for either Newcastle, Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool.
  25. I think both us and spurs will clear 70. Fourth will go to the one who picks up an unexpected win v the top three and avoids slipping up in the games that are the bankers. Let’s say we get 4 wins and a draw out of our remaining 8. That leaves us on 72. Spurs would then need 5 wins and a draw which would be targeted from forest, Newcastle, west ham, burnley and Sheffield and a draw against the bigger teams they face. Hopefully if they slip up v west ham or Newcastle that will put a lot of pressure on them to beat arsenal, Chelsea or man city. We really need to target 5 wins out of the 8 games and avoid a spanking from Man city to put max pressure on spurs. The five targets for us would be Brentford, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Brighton and Palace on the final day. No easy feat with the European games thrown in.
