  1. Not sure where you got that from? The opening £25m bid last night is the first offer we’ve received for him.
  2. Andy King?? Sounds like a desperate signing we might have made 18 months ago. No chance!
  3. Still think it’s odd that you can apparently be negotiating if you haven’t had a bid? We’ve told them the price, pay up or move on.
  4. If Spurs really wanted him and thought he was pivotal to their plans for this season then they would have bid and unveiled him 3 weeks ago. The fact they’ve haven’t yet will be telling to Jack. They can promise him all they like to turn his head and try to get a signature. The facts are that if he stays at Villa he’s the main man with the complete freedom to choose his own destiny next summer. Go to Spurs and you gamble your whole career on the promise of game time that is far from guaranteed. When they chuck in a last minute £25m bid on Thursday I hope we tell them to get stuffed.
  5. It wouldn’t be so bad if he actually looked interested. When he’s not trying to win a cheap free kick (followed by the strop or feigning injury) he’s hogging the ball and missing the most obvious opportunities to pass and bring in another player. It’s almost as if he believes he is better than the team mates around him. He needs to drop the ego and find some humility.
  6. It wasn’t a goodbye, just a usual acknowledgment of the fans for applauding him. I don’t think it’s possible to read anything into that at all. As for fighting back tears, the lad was pouring with sweat and had a huge grin on his face at the end as we’d won the game. If there was any deal remotely imminent then he wouldn’t have been risked tonight. Of course a last minute £40m bid might come in and he’s aware of that but the idea that the decision is Jack’s to make at this stage is nonsense. He’s playing the waiting game just like we are.
  7. You’re right, I deleted Kodjia when trying to edit it!
  8. Steer Hutton Chester Taylor Elmo Whelan Hourihane Green Adomah Grealish Expect Whelan to get the nod over Jedinak. Bruce has given us enough clues in pre season over formation. Hopefully it will be Adomah and not Green playing wing back but I won’t hold my breath ?
  9. Reading inbetween the lines of what was said during the press conference- 1. We don’t need to sell any player, therefore nobody is actively for sale 2. The current owners have a strong feeling on their valuations for players and if a bid was to come in it would need to be quote, “a premium price that they are satisfied with”. 3. Spurs may or may not have enquiried about Jack at rumoured £15-20m. (This hasn’t been confirmed by anyone as far as I can tell). 4. They’ve been told £35m + or do one. 5. Jack is therefore staying (hopefully... subject to point number 2!).
  10. I’d say it’s a no brainier to stay here for another season vs bench warming for Spurs/Chelsea. Start this season as he finished the last one, be the big name in the Championship. A chance to get promoted with his team or be in the position to decide his own future next summer if not. Next summer, with only a year left on his contract he will have multiple offers if his performances have been what many expect them to be this year. He would still have a full season to break into the England team for the next Euros and plenty of time before the next World Cup come around.
  11. I just feel as if Bruce will stick with Steer to start with. He’s given him loads of game time in preseason and hasn’t done a huge amount wrong. Ok, his distribution could be better but how is he to improve if he isn’t given a chance? Of course, there’s an argument for saying that you don’t loan an Athletico Madrid player to warm the bench but I think he will have to earn his place. Whether that’s through impressing at training or Steer not making progress who knows but I don’t think he’s a guaranteed starter just get.
  12. By all accounts this one wasn’t Bruce’s decision and there’s nothing to suggest that he’s going to walk straight into the starting 11 at all. Moreira is very young himself and not particularly experienced.
  13. For every day this goes on the asking price should rise by £5m. Absurd that we would contemplate selling him now so close to the start of the season when we can’t replace him. Ive said it before but they never actually lodged a bid when they thought they could get him at £15m. Now they can’t lodge the £35m bid they’ve been told it will take. Stop messing us about and trying to turn the lads head if you’ve got no intention of signing him.
  14. So we’ve been quietly subject to a transfer embargo. What a mess we were in! Xia didn’t mention that in his open letter did he? How fortunate we were to get the new owners in, we must have literally been hours away from administration.
  15. Spurs didn’t manage to lodge a bid when they thought they might get him for £15m so I don’t see why they’d now bid £30m+ Seems to me they were never that interested but thought it was a gamble worth taking if they could get him on the cheap.
  16. That’s less appealing that just £10m cash. No thanks
  17. Not named in today’s squad to play Dresden
  18. Disappointing as like many on here I was hoping a change in manager would kick start better football and an opportunity for our younger members of the squad. Wonder what on earth he said to them in that meeting!?
  19. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he takes charge tonight and his departure is announced later tonight. Call him what you like but he’s an old pro. Gives him chance to say goodbye to the squad and minimises disruption right before a game. Players will have a recovery day tomorrow and meet the new boss Friday morning.
  20. It’s also a risk to allow Bruce to stay and play the same old fashioned, tired hoof ball style in a league which is so competitive. Last week we wanted sustainability, to rebuild the club based around our younger squad. This week after new investment it seems that’s changed to wanting instant success again.
  21. Have a read through the thread, seems I’m not the only one who felt it was a poor performance but because I didn’t include ‘Bruce’ or ‘tactics’ it’s been taken that I was unhappy with a 4-0 win. A 4-0 win even in preseason is great but I feel there is still a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks.
  22. He’s been with Jonathan Barnett since 2015 and he isn’t normally the type of agent who would encourage a player to stay so this doesn’t make sense. Jack would get a signing on fee of around 10% of the fee and his agent would take a decent chunk of that. If he’s reluctant to recommend the move it can only be down to reservations of how much game time he might get and whether it would affect his England chances in the next couple of years.
  23. I believe that was because Bale’s father stepped in early on to put a stop to any discussion about him playing for England. I don’t think he will be moving for the wages either but that obviously comes with a step up to the Premier League. I think the opportunity to try and earn a place in the England squad is probably of more importance to him than money. My initial point was that if he stays I believe we will need to offer him an improved contract. Something that would be good for him and very sensible to protect his value should he then need to be sold next summer.
