  1. I know , how depressing. We have wrecked him, he looked about 60 years old sitting on that bench stuck next to MacAlister, who looked completely disinterested in what Gerrard was saying to him or what was unfolding in front of him.
  2. It's still not enough, he will have until the international break and if we don't drag ourselves out of the relegation position then he may get sacked. When Purslow appointed Gerrard he took a massive gamble and its turning into a disastrous move for us and for him. He has no choice but to stick with Gerrard and I think he will go out on his sword for him. Remember Purslow is clueless when it comes to football, i can't believe to even consider who he will appoint next, frightening that some posters actually can't see how badly he has let us all down. To clarify.....Gerrard was never my choice, he wouldn't have even got the interview, shocking decision to sack Smith and appoint a 2nd year apprentice who Beale had carried. Smith should have gone for an upgrade and the same applies to Gerrard , I don't want another spin on Purslow's managers wheel of misfortune.
  3. No one is going to be sacked after losing to Arsenal away or Man city and they shouldn't either. Who is going to come in a settle the ship......big Sam type appointment incoming.
  4. Think he had a bad game? Watch our goal , Arsenals keeper was horrendous.

Playing badly , can't believe it's the same player from the start of his villa career. We seem so exposed out wide, desperate stuff tonight from him, confidence is shot.
  6. At the top. We need football brains at the top.
  7. One from the bottom, Leicester win tomorrow and we're bottom. Lucky to be in this game, 1st half we was all over the place at the back, crowding lose balls , challenging each other, positionally all over the place. Playing the ball out of the back 4 is causing us all sorts of issues and we are ending in a mess when we are pressed. We don't pick up any free players when they are running at us , gives the opposition countless opportunities to pass into free players. I think we will be bottom come the international break, maybe by a few points as well. Gerrard was fixed to his seat through out the whole match, he looked distraught, lost. Not sure what to say, I just hope we don't go down.
  8. I wouldn't, Critchely would probably go with Gerrard anyway and leave us deeply in trouble. I see Gerrard's weaknesses, lack of experience, it maybe he turns this around at some stage this season and we could benefit from that. Or he may walk away and leave with no pay off. This is obviously subject to us not being deeply in the bottom 3 and us not having any other top class experienced options to manage us. We need to start thinking smart and not let emotions get in the way of our decisions, as I believe Purslow did, when he picked Gerrard.
  9. That's why I would be tempted to keep him until we have a better choice of managers and a better team of football experts to pick him. We can't go on being effectively rudderless ,in football terms , at the very top of the club.
  10. There is a deep rooted issue and it's starts with Purslow. He needs to get some people around him who know the English game, the type that Brentford and Brighton appear to have around them. He can then leave the football analysis to them , look at the facts they present and make a choice from the top contenders. I thought we had that but looking at the decisions we have made and are making we obviously haven't. Some terrible signings in areas we haven't needed and glaring omissions is areas we have , the midfield for one.
  11. Happy for him, nice to see them get automatic promotion with Smith and Ramsey there . UTV
  12. Villa win, 2-1. Just the way football works. UTV
  13. I'm not saying we will get him and not sure if our players are suited to his system but being able to change games with subs is a major benefit and neither Smith or Gerrard seemed capable of doing it. Potter seems to be and for me it's shows he has the building blocks to become a good manager at a higher level, where we want to go. Brighton reaping benefits of flexible Potter's changes Adrian Clarke explains how versatile Seagulls have been able to ad apt to various formations When it comes to the use of formations and the way individual players are utilised, Brighton & Hove Albion's Graham Potter is the most tactically fluid head coach in the Premier League. After 10 rounds of matches in 2021/22, Potter has used eight different shapes from the start of matches. Adrian Clarke 11 Nov 2021 https://www.premierleague.com/news/2346717 I don't think he would come to us, as things stand (he would be stupid to tbh), we need to get to the end of the season without getting relegated and then approach him and some others to see what they can offer and what they have already achieved.
  14. This is because Purslow wants to make football decisions and he's not got the skill set to do it. On top of that he hasn't appointed anyone that can advise him either, which is more worrying. Our next manager, if Gerrard fails, has to be selected using a different process to the one used to pick Gerrard. My guess is Purslow wanted Gerrard as soon as he knew he would come and that pushed him into getting rid of Smith, who had a bad start to the season.
  15. He led by example as a player, it's a completely different skill to explain and motivate players to win games. I don't think he's a long term manager for us but I may be wrong , we're one win away from salvation , for now. Purslow will stick with him as it's both their reputations on the line , fingers crossed we get the win against Arsenal. The players need to show they want to play for him and they haven't yet. Come on Gerrard , we're in injury time UTV .
  16. NSWE purchased us in July, Purslow was appointed in August, "I was blind but now I can see ......." https://youtu.be/ZF0Ka10-3Cg
  17. Why did he pick him then, without considering any other managers? His record was ok but it was hardly comprehensive. As others have rightly pointed out Purslow has never been involved in football decisions until he came to us. From the information we have Purslow should not be involved in football decisions, if he makes the call on the next manager then we are making the same mistakes as we have with Gerrard, another gamble.
  18. He destroyed what he has built and we are in a worse position than this time last year with leading players not happy and new players on huge contracts with no resale value offering no improvements on the pitch. If we go down the whole clubs future is at risk and that's not exaggerating the situation with the type of contracts we have gave these signings. Smith was judged , from Purslow's comments , from poor performances from the beginning of the year, 2021, to when he was sacked. I'm pretty sure Gerrard's record in 2022 is worse. Gerrard would have been a fool to turn us down, huge pay rise, in the top league and with a budget to spend and a fan boy as his boss. Our next manager has to be a major improvement and I don't trust Purslow to pick him or her. I just hope Gareth Southgate doesn't become available because that's the type of appointment I would be expecting from Purslow.
  19. It's difficult to judge any player while we are playing like we are.
  20. Dean Smith was sacked I pretty sure the £300m or so spent on new players has offset any commercial value we have gained and in the position we are now I doubt the value is a high as a month ago. The 100m for Grealish was , as far as I'm concerned , a minor disaster. If Newcastle and Palace can hold onto their star left winger then why couldn't we ? A football club is about the results on the pitch and a connection with its fans , Purslow has managed to destroy both.
  21. I can't think of any football decisions that have gone well but I'm happy to proven wrong.......what has Purslow done for us?
  22. It wasn't a little mistake , he made a judgement that's took us back 2 years and probably £200m spent supporting his managers system. It was obviously a massive gamble with Gerrard and while it's not over yet it's beginning to look like the gamble has failed. Did Gerrard outline his ideas at the interview, marauding full backs and no wingers? We had just brought Beundia and Bailey and had Bert as well. The Grealish saga as well , 3 players to replace 1 , allowing a buy out clause when Grealish had 3 or was it 4 years left on his contract. I don't buy into him, hated the way he treated Smith, he deserved better treatment and to replace him with his old Liverpool mate was so fucXed up. It stank then and its beginning to look like a completely moronic thing to have done. He should get someone in to deal with football decisions as he's obviously clueless.
  23. I'm not to sure we will tbh, in fact Arsenal may well try and outscore Liverpool's Bournemouth exploits. Today was the game to get 3 points against a West Ham team who tbh looked poor.
  24. We need another press conference from him explaining the new plan, maybe get a few more managers in to help Gerrard's development.
  25. Banana skins I reckon. Two crap teams today , we will both be in the bottom 6 if things stay the same. Heard some boos at the end, couple more home defeats and it will be hostile.
