We'll see what Emery goes with. I'd be surprised if we had 4 senior fullbacks and 4 center backs.

I think we'll have 5 CBs and 3 senior players who can play FB with Nedeljkovic as the additional youth player.

I think Lenglet, Chambers and Digne leave. We sign a LCB and a FB

Yea the new lad could be classed as a senior

Carlos/Mings/Pau and Konsa is surely enough to start the season with in terms of Centrebacks.

Yes! As long as we have two full back either side who will play in the squad.

also similar to the left back position we should move on a older centre back it, it won’t be mings for the same reason as left back

I think it's the case that we won't be signing big names, as in current top regarded 20 to 30 players out there, but more that we sign talked about players who are on an upward trajectory and have the scope to grow further and improve. Which is the model for the majority of our last 25 signings.

Big name players rarely work, Coutinho arguably our biggest named signing and possibly the one of the few you could consider a flop.

They often don't work to the extent they need to for the fee/wage

Could we? Can’t think of too many LBs from the premier league who have had a better season than him.
20m is the price of a championship standout(if that) these days.
I’d be perfectly happy with Digne and Moreno going into next season, with Chrisene and Sousa on loan.

Yea, you buy a foreign player 🫥

I’m not convinced that’s the one for FFP/PSR. He’ll probably have around, what, £10m “left” in terms of book value… you’re saying we get a left back in who is fine being a rotation option but offers as much as Digne does (and immediately, as well) for £50m absolute tops?

    I don’t see it. It’s such a big risk.

I can’t remember his book value it’s back on page 53 but we could pay half the wage for a player in his early 20’s for circa 20m which would be lower than digne’s amortisation per year and get a similar output.

hes been decent this year not a world beater.

we shouldn’t be having two older player for one position you should always have an eye to the future and not be paying 6.25m per year for a squad rotation option we don’t generate the revenue for it.

its the smart financial thing to do

Jeez, where's all the money coming from? I have to assume we lose one senior player in the Summer and any arrivals will be 'astute' and off-radar signings rather than some en vogue names? Fair play to the management team however: Moreno, Pau, and Rogers have all looked excellent value and all up to the standard we require, and Diaby demonstrates we are happy to pay decent money if needed.

We have plenty of FFP room as long as they move out the fringe players.

Also unless he goes to Saudi who’s even going to pay the wages he is currently earning so why would he leave ?

Don’t think he’s going anywhere until his contract expires and I have no issue with that.

There may be one or two continental clubs willing as well

  8. 8 hours ago, bobzy said:

But surely it would cost more money to replace him than it would to cover his £120k/wk (or £45m/wk, whatever it is) wage for the remaining 2 years he has on his contract?

    Actually in FFP/PSR terms no.

He would sell for the equal of his book value so no FFP loss and we need to lower the wage bill for PSR along side increasing revenue.

No one really cares what it costs NSWE for the fee as they have always just stumped up the money - so far.

Don't understand the clamour to get rid of Digne.  He's essentially been pivotal in us having our best season in a long, long time and he and Moreno are probably the most like-for-like replacements we have in the entire squad.

Wage and age, it's not that he is too old its that him and moreno are too old together.

Fact is Moreno was brought by Emery and costs a lot less in wages.

  10. I haven't been on for a couple of days so I am reading the last few pages at once and I don't see many posters in the 'middle'.

I'm seeing either REALLY low expectations for the club to do transfer business or people wanting us to have more players than we currently have which we can't afford to do.

I’d be amazed if we get any sale, from the players we own in that list

    well two are loan players.....
Sanson is guaranteed to be sold for 4m as that is already agreed.
Donk and Digne would definitely receive offers.

    In order of priority -

DM - We have a bunch of players who can play the 8 role Luiz normally fills but without Kamara they all have to play in position worse for them. We also lack physicality in the middle and signing a more imposing DM could help us a lot on set pieces and vs more physical but less technically gifted teams like those we faced in the conference league.

RB - For Obvious reasons, Cash is our weakest rotation player, and signing a better RB gives us more CB depth to as we can then play Konsa either at RB or RCB.

LB - Digne and Moreno are both in their 30s. Now is the time to sell at least one. We don't want to end up at a point in 2-3 years time where they are both regressing and we can't find any buyers for them.

5th CB - Depending on where the club think Mings is, this one may need to be more regular than we might think but if Mings is good we only really just need one for depth (specifically Mings and Carlos injuries). Potentially if we sign someone like hermoso on a free he could fill in as both a LB and 5th choice CB, and would free us to sell both digne and Moreno and sign another attacking LB without compromising our defence.

AFAIK we will also be forced into signing Ramsey and Archer and perhaps we can bring back philogene. If that is the case than that is probably all the attacking reinforcements we need.

With you for the first three, then you lost me

Weren't some people suggesting he was even better at Leverkusen than Leon was when he was in his pomp?

I still think for some games, I may rather see Duran, partially for protection of Moussa, against big, strong players he can sometimes struggle unless he's given space as he's a little guy.

He was far superior to Bailey at Leverkusen.

He will make a proper nob out of the doubters.

  14. totally overjoyed with all the points from today, I really doubted we would be able to after playing 120 mins the other day without resting players for ages now.

They can catch us but having 6 on the board puts loads of pressure on them and their games are harder, two more wins guarantees it for me

Wasn’t the deal to sign him all but done last year ?  We didn’t go elsewhere for a striker, it’s not that ridiculous to suggest that is because we were prepared to wait 12 months ??

I'm quite happy with Duran as back up

Contracted salaries, on renewal, can go down as well as up.  Diaby turned down more money from Saudi.  Maybe Lucas fancies a go at the Champions League ??

He isn't up for renewal, yes he probably does fancy a go at the champions league, doesn't change that it would be financially better for us if he left.

I am not sure that we'd be able to give him the playing time he wanted (but hopefully we will have a big European football carrot to wave in his face) but I think Solanke would enjoy playing in an Emery team.  Would give us a bit more aerial threat against teams that play really deep.  I'm not sure that Rogers and Duran couldn't fill the hole eventually but Solanke would slot in almost immediately.  I'm sure Solanke will probably want to be a guaranteed starter but if we could persuade him that he'd get enough time for us and also get some minutes in Europe then it might be a good option.  It is crazy that he's not even in the discussion for a place in the England squad.

Well the discussion goes Kane, Watkins.... are we even taking a third player

Mings is a completely different profile of player to Torres. Mings is a ball winner, defensive CB while Torres is a progressive passer attack minded CB. They're perfect profile to play together.

If we lost Torres to injury we'd lack his skillset once Lenglet returns to Barcelona.

I think Torres Mings Konsa Frimpong is like the idea back 4

Moreno Torres Carlos Konsa another option. That type of symmetry

I am aware that Pau is a more cultured player than Mings, he will however be our second choice left sided centre back next season, we would be better served selling Carlos, having just one older centre back and getting someone with Torres' skills to play as a right sided centre back.

Thanks, I’m aware what league we play in. I think you’re underestimating talent elsewhere, but setting that aside, who is going to defend against the better premier league wingers? Moreno, if he’s capable of returning to form of last season, can be effective going forward, but he’s not quick enough, big enough, or strong enough to defend consistently at  our level.

Then you are aware of the quality of PL teams vs the other 4 top leagues.....
He does just fine in the PL, could we do better? Obviously but there are priorities.

Kimmich covers the first 2, extend Digne’s contract does the third, Jack the forth, and I think we can get Abraham on the cheap, from Roma.

Why on earth would we extend Digne's massive contract? When you have two 'older players' for a position you get rid of one for a younger option. It should be Digne due to wage and the fact Emery brought in Moreno.

    Kimmich........Not happening.

    Jack.......Not happening.

Abraham, you may well be correct but who are you getting rid of?

  21. 6 hours ago, grantholtgolazo said:

For me, Moreno’s defending doesn’t inspire much confidence & seems many are assuming Digne goes, if that’s the case who’s the option matching up defensively against champions league quality wingers?

We play in the PL champions league quality wingers are the same or lower than our league
