  1. In style - Yes it is good comparison. But Ljungberg was definitely class higher.
  2. Signing Birkir Bjarnason would be great. But is it a gossip or true?
  3. First, I heard about roumor about Ashley Young, and now Yoyo Toure, source Sportrelated.net. I don't take this seriously.
  4. Reykjavik, Iceland Valur It was probably 1978. I visited Villa Park with my son, spring 2009. We are not many Villa fans in Iceland.
  5. Now we are talking about fundamentals. I do not have the right answers. But what makes Wales a better team than England? Is the answer "Wales players know what to do inside out" ? Why and how do they know it? What is different? Mentally, structure....? The answer (now) is not 4-4-2 or 3-5-2. But it lead you there, in the end. Yes it is a lottery at that age. You have to focus on youth. Not because you want title at that age. You have to focus on youth because you want win Europe Cup or World Cup later. If you have good youth team it is more likely that the same will happend later. Nothing is certain.
  6. Yes, England need to go back to basics. Is the answer 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or something else. No you need to go much deeper. Back to fundamental. Spain was pain, but suddenly the are one of the best. German had problem around 2000, now they are number one. What happened? How do you build up a good team? Do you start from professional players or from age of 5, 8, 15 ? You have to answer questions like, is the framework excellent? What about attitude and support by the FA, players and fans? How is your structure? How is your support to girls and women? Strange? It has affected to the framework. Women and girls are 50% of english families. Don't forget them. Supporters of my german favorite team are singing "Wir brauchen nur 11 Freunde, und keinen Superstar" We need just eleven friends and no superstar. I believe Icelandic team is build up by eleven friends and no superstar. We have definately really good players but no one like Maradona, Beckenbauer, Pele, Messi, Neymar, Muller, Neuer, Beckham, Ronaldo, etc. You don't have superstars, but do you have players who think and act like a superstar? Your first solution is to find answers to these questions. How do you build up a good team? Do you start from professional players or from age of 5, 8, 15 ? Is the framework excellent? What about attitude and support by the FA, players, family and parents? How is your structure? Than you can make a plan. (Aston Villa is in same situations) (see also post pg. 102)
  7. English players believe they are number one. Icelandic fans believe England is very good. Other nations knows the statistics and knows that England is not one of the best team, and probably has not been last decades. If we groups nations by strength, five nations in each category. You have to accept, England is not A class footballnation. England is probably one of best of B class nation. Iceland is definately not A or B class, maybe by now but not generally. What is the problem in England? Overestemated, both players but specially managers. Why do you choose almost english managers? And everytime in hiring process if some foreigner is on spot list, many people raise up and say this is bullshit. We need english manager. When Villa relegated, I heard must of you wanted english manager for Villa or say, what experience has he in England? What you need to do (England), you must pay greater atttention to youth. Participation in sports (mostly football) in Iceland is a social event. We pay great attention to boys and girls. Playing football or other sport is one of our ways to raise children. We have also good coaches ( I believe you have too). It is common for young children, they exercise 3-4 times a week from five years of age. The parents supports their children on tournaments, and even watch when they are training. We support our team (clubs), we telling our children our team is best. But we never talk down or try to humiliate other teams. We support our nation, does not matter which club they are playing for. Always positive. Most progress in Iceland is when we had foreign managers. Youri Sedov who brought amazing thing to Club Vikingur Reykjavik. He used new methods. A few years later, other teams did the same. Lars Lagerback, he brought to us stability and knowledge how to play and prepare for great tournaments. Bogdan Kowalczyk made massive improvements in our handball teams many years ago. Finally we won silver (2nd) in Olympic games 2008 in Peking. Who was our coaches? Gudmundur Gudmunsson. Gudmundur was a player when Bodgdan came. Gudmundur uses his tactics based on Bogdan methods. Summary: Mentally is important, social aspect is very important and kowledge from abroad bring you wider horizons. I wish you good luck in next tournaments.
  8. If you want consider some of icelandic players, I would go for defender Ragnar Sigurdsson, age of 30, playing for Krasnodar, Russia. Krasnodar plays in EUFA europa league. Maybe he is not realistic choice. But what about other defender Kari Arnarson age of 33, playing for Gothenburg in Sweden. He could be good choice for 1-2 years. https://www.google.is/?gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=WXxyV76sAp30gAbEqbHQAw#q=kári+árnason https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar_Sigurðsson But whynot midfielder Aron Gunnarsson, plays for Cardiff. He is underestimated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aron_Gunnarsson I have always liked this player, Emil Hallfredsson, sadly he recently signed for Udinese. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Hallfreðsson Other Icelandic players is eather not appropriate for us for the moment or is not realistic choice.
  9. We were saying this at the end of McLeish season "there's no one else who could do a worse job than this." Well we signed a bloke who on the face of it did a brilliant job at Norwich and after two years of relegation battles we're now scoring even less than a McLeish team which is frankly incredible. If their is a worse manager out there, this board will probably appoint him. We definately need to get rid of Lambert. But Lerner is probably main problem, he has the money. with current board we are doomed, and will end in bottom three. Maybe the worst think that could happen is keep this board and end as 17th. Lambert out and Lerner out; ...all we need is a fresh start
  10. Usually, january is not the right time. But everytime is right to sack Lambert.
  11. Interesting idea, but it looks like he just stays one season by each club.
  12. We need new manager. If I should pick up the phone, I would call Olof Mellberg.
  13. Lambert go away, you have done everything you can. But please don't go back to Norwich, I don't hate them that much. I challenge to every Villa fan who will attend next game. Turn back to Lambert in first 10 minutes. He needs clear message.
  14. Statistics is interesting and don't tell the whole truth. We need huge improvements. In last games we are totally lost. In previous posts you are compare bad season to really bad season. Last year we scored 19 goals in first 20 games. This season 11 goals in 20 games. 8 goals in difference or 42% Last year we were no. 14 in scored goals. Now no. 20. Last year other teams scored 25 goals. This season 22. goals. 3 goals in difference or 12%. We have 22 points in 20 games. 1,1 point pr. game. Last season we got 1 point pr. game (38/38) Are we doing better this season? But last and definately not least, we are playing lousy football. No statitistics can measure that Good analysis John. Same Villa, I aggree Sanchez and Okore. But I would give Grealish more than 5. He tried, but needed more support. To Lambert I will say, go away. This happens in NY, maybe it is our time to turn back to Lambert in next game against Leicester. I challenge to every Villa fan who will attend next game. Turn back to Lambert in first 10 minutes. He needs clear message. Thousands of officers turned their backs on the mayor during Ramos' funeral http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-30672097
  15. That was me..he took our best creative player off after 15 mins (Vlaar)... The mans a genius
  16. If Grealish tried.....he's guaranteed not to start the next game either!! None of them, incl. Grealish, were good. We control the game, but nothing happened.
  17. Great disappointments. I encourage those who live in England to attend next game to show their disappointment. How? How sounds turn back first 10 minutes?
  18. What is Lerner's nickname in this forum? Lambert got one VERY GOOD tactics.
  19. I voted for Grealish, he tried and deserve something. Sanchez was least disappointing. None deserve moth. We are totally lost.
  20. Sanchez man of the match? Why? I voted for Cole, and could say Cleverly too. But none of AV player should be man of the match. Cole and Cleverly tried to do something. They are one class above others. Lambert out. Redknapp was active but Lambert did nothing.
  21. This must be joke! http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-ron-7441054 4 m. for Vlaar. Even Lerner cannot be so stupid. Can he? Harry is buying Sigurdsson from Spurs for 8m.
  22. I would like to see Finnbogason in Villa shirt. Why should he go to Cardiff? He don't get the salary he wants by Heerenveen He wants to play in England. 10 million, we should go for it.
  23. Two bad teams, Villa slightly worse. But we had our chances.
  24. This link is better http://espnfc.com/video/espnfc/video?id=intl:1529926&cc=5739
