We need a striker not a midfielder. Our midfield is good enough to avoid the drop. As is our defense. Any decent striker would bring us much much closer to avoiding the drop. And for 8m pounds there are plenty of options that I feel could do better than Bent or Weimann. Especially if we go shopping overseas. Instead we get cleverley.

Probably nothing. My recommendation would be Teofilo Gutierrez nonetheless. Available for just under 10m usd. Absolutely demolishing the scene with River Plate in Argentina at the start of the season. With Carlos Sanchez you have the pull to get him over here. But it wouldn't even happen if we had the time. We won't put out the money to invest in a top goalscorer. We're going to be screwed over with some mediocre has been from the championship.

No player coming from any other league has ever not had a struggle to get into the pace of the Premiership. Especially at a defensive position of all things.

We should of sold Benteke way back when for 30m and bought two or three decent strikers with the money. Now were stuck with one whose consistently injured and may never be worth half as much as that.

What everyone kept saying he was the best player and he got MOTM ratings over in that thread? I mean he's a very defensive minded midfielder. He's not a pivot defensive midfielder like say Xabi Alonso. Now I didn't see the goal or any of the chances that occured so I can't particularly say how well he did on those individual attempts and so forth so I can not say whether or not he failed today or made any big mistakes. But I would expect it from him. He's playing with a bunch of players who don't speak the same language as him and he's playing a completely different style of football. But it's Aston Villa. We should all be used to that by now. What I do expect is that by mid-season he'll have transformed his performances and have become a vital and very important solid piece of the midfield and defensive lines. Todays loss is definitely on the attacking players. Yes we got scored on. Yes someone in the defense probably screwed up. Nonetheless we should of been up 2 anyways against this kind of team. I mean it's not exactly as if we are playing all our starters on the defensive line.

Well my recommendation would be 3-5m and out of our price range. Probably wouldn't come to a team struggling against relegation anyways. Facts our with our budget and our reputation we can't really attract the kind of player we need. If we had the money at least we might be able to get someone who's not utter shit and can at least score against other relegation fodder teams.
