  1. Loved Luiz telling the ref to just get out of his face and blow the whistle for his penalty last night, and then still doing his customary thing of waiting until he was ready to start his run up - that pause he does after the refs whistle seems to me to be psychological and all about him taking it when he’s ready, not anyone else.

Watkins’ effort, I’ve rewatched it a few times to see if the slip affected the trajectory of the shot, it’s hard to tell as the slip seems largely to occur after the strike but who knows, I wrote in the match thread that I wondered if whether he scored or not would have a bearing on his selection for the Euros and it’s a shame he slipped as it may cloud safegates (already clouded) judgement.

What a buzz it was though to win that way, Martinez is such a character and such a good keeper, we are so so fortunate to have him, long may it continue.

  2. Duran played well, good discipline off the ball, decent on the few occasions he had possession, competed well in the air and was somewhat unlucky with the effort on goal (which required really good technique to be fair).

I feel like he’s maturing in his play and approach, he’s much less of a hothead lately.

  3. Yeah poor performance generally, though I thought Duran did well coming on. That being said we still missed the chance of the game through Luiz.

Absolutely buzzing with the win, who’d have thought we’d be the last English club standing in Europe?!

Martinez is an absolute legend, sincerely hope he goes on to see at least the majority of his career out here, top, top goalkeeper.

    Do we dare to dream?

  4. No real intensity to our play, they have space whereas we’re closed down quickly every time it reaches one of ours. They get away with quite a lot to be honest in the contact, always grabbing shirts etc.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Martinez not return for the second half. Need a big effort this half to get back on top.

  5. The irony, I haven’t given a shit about European results for English teams since as long as I can remember to be honest, the one year I/we have a vested interest in them doing well and they all have a bloody mare. Oh well, extra incentive and impetus for us to try and make sure we finish fourth now!

  6. He’s just settled in really well hasn’t he? Looks a Villa player already, some of his showings have been a bit iffy but that’s been in line with team performances during that time, he’s drifted out of matches but I thought it was an incredibly mature performance yesterday. The early indications on this one is that we’ve done well, fingers crossed he’s got another few levels in him for Unai to unlock because on top of what we’ve seen so far, plus his raw attributes, any improvement would see him become a real player.

  7. Outstanding yesterday and my MoTM.

Put a great shift in, was cool and calm on the ball, often receiving passes inside our own area, almost scored a worldie, perfect pass over the top to assist Watkins’ goal.

I think that’s his best performance in a Villa shirt and he’s starting to look like he’s enjoying his football again.

  8. I feel like the results yesterday gave us a lift going in to today, I thought we were close to being spent after recent showings but today we got stronger as the game went on.

It’s a massive step toward securing 5th at least but fingers crossed it gives us the platform and energy to go on and match/better Spurs’ results.

I don't get how Ryan Reynolds gets to be rich, handsome, funny, married to Blake Lively, and own a football team that gets back-to-back promotions.

Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil just to be a phenomenal blues artist: imagine how he feels toiling in hell as we speak knowing he negotiated a horrible deal. Reynolds will burn for eternity but he played a blinder.

Yep, there’s not many people I truly envy on this planet but Ryan Reynolds is definitely one of them.

Not much choice as Lenglet has been crap too. Move Konsa into the middle and Chsmbers at rb. I dont know.

I remember that experiment and it was horrendous (Legia away)

  11. Going to be a tough second leg but if we can carve out some set pieces I think we can score another one or two.

That being said, I can definitely see them scoring 2 or more too potentially so should be a good game for the neutral.

Emi was immense tonight, Watkins played well, everyone else was mostly hit and miss, we just don’t seem anywhere near as coherent as we were earlier in the season, though it cannot be understated how many key players we’re missing and the knock on effect of everyone else having to play so many more minutes.

  12. We look tired, probably as much mentally as physically, saturday will have taken a lot out of us, I think that was evident in watkins’ post match, ironically he’s the only one who seems to have a bit of zip and energy about him, maybe save for Rogers.

Luiz is frustrating me, he’s done some decent stuff but generally taking too many touches and not seeing the passes on around him, defensively we’re really not in good shape, the sooner we can get cash back the better all round with Konsa back in the middle.

Fingers crossed for a lead at the end of this one

People driving at a constant speed would definitely decrease  traffic issues. Heavy braking causes the majority of traffic jams

And numpties too busy checking their phones to realise they’ve dropped down to 50mph in the middle lane

I've a few responses here :) Should cruise control be a part of learning? Not for me, although I've no strong feelings on it either way.  It's a feature, and by no means essential to actually driving a car. Personally, I like to know what gadgets my car has at my disposal, so I'll go and seek it out and experiment. But that doesn't mean it needs to be on a state course to get a licence.

As for the second point about fewer traffic problems on motorways. Maybe I'm inferring incorrectly here that there's some element of added safety to cruise control? If that's not what you're saying then fair enough, I've picked you up wrong and you can stop reading. But if someone was saying that cruise control was in some way safer than not using cruise control then I would disagree with that. Cruise control, even to a tiny degree (and I'd argue it's not a tiny degree at all, but for argument's sake let's say a tiny degree...) requires an element of detachment by the driver from what is going on at their feet. That's kinda the point of cruise control. Leave it to the car. Now if something happens in front of you on the motorway requiring immediate action - as plenty of things in front of you often do on a motorway - then the driver who does not have cruise control on, is more engaged with their driving than the cruise control driver is. Even for a split second if it's to get your feet back into position or they're in position and need to find the pedals and apply them. For me, cruise control is less safe than not using it. After all, it's you doing less driving and having less control. Even in a miniscule way.

It was more from a view on traffic flow rather than safety, although a lot of modern cruise control is adaptive so it will regulate your speed based on what’s in front of you, to the point that it can and will aid a hard stop if needed, so there may be some support for it adding a degree of safety too.

Maybe a step too far having it as part of the leaning to drive process, as you say it’s a feature but it’s a bloody helpful one!

He's emblematic of the new breed of idiot-pundit, no longer employed for their experience or insight, but instead for their comedic value.

He is at once a crap pundit, a poor former player, an unpleasant human being and a symbol for the decaying standards in broadcasting and the lack of intelligent comment in public life.

I hope he bursts off the scene as soon as is humanly possible.

    Exactly this.

He’s the epitome of the ongoing and systematic dumbing-down of media to make it more appealing to an increasingly inattentive audience
