  1. I am one of five villa fans I know in London, so we could add to that list! If there was a good villa pub down that showed all the games in HQ with an atmosphere like Roccoco it would save me a lot of travelling! 5000 miles a year just to watch the home games!
  2. You told us you didn't want a manager who would leave his club like hughes - You lied, Mcleish is worse. You told us you cancelled talks with Mclaren because you cared what fans thought - You lied, Mcleish is worse. You told us you would do what was best for our football club - you lied, we have passed up great managers like Jol and Hughes to get a manager who's only real Premier League experience is getting a team relegated... You lied again. On Paper Randy may own the club, but in reality it belongs to the fans, who were here long before and will be here long after. I trusted you, I trusted Randy. Whether the reasoning for mcleish is future austerity measures, a dick measuring contest with the blues chairman or general ignorance about football I don't know - what I do know is that you personally have lost the trust, and randy the respect of many fans. P.S. I couldn't care less about the blues rivalry, I just want a competent manager who doesn't play negative football and for us to make an effort to actually keep our best players!
  3. I am yet to renew my season ticket... would a delay of the deadline be feasible given we don't know what we are buying? Best player gone Rumours suggest Downing to Liverpool is as good as done Reo-coker gone No manager No Keeper No Left Back Suggestions Dunne is leaving It's not all doom and gloom but I feel it unfair to ask me to part with a very exact amount of money yet what you are offering in return is far from exact. This club operates in an honourable way and I was glad when Whelan said what he did, so when making a deal with the fans maybe it would be considered unfair to ask us to part with such money until you are willing to tell us what we will get for it?
  4. Hi Gen Thanks for the reply and again my comments aren't meant to be particularly critical although I can see why they may come across that way. I personally had faith in Houllier and I can see the merits for and against sticking with him at the moment however I do feel it necessary a conclusion is drawn with haste - which I am sure that the club is aware of and that they are doing everything they can to make this happen. With regards to the media watching this site, I am aware of that, as I mentioned it was me who asked the question that led to the whole £30m on one player story that ended up in the papers. I am not asking for any specifics, really I am not - and I can understand why you would be crazy to give them out as much as we would like to hear them. I suppose I am more asking for something in the middle for example: "Downing is happy at Villa" "Bent has expressed no interest in leaving and is fully committed to Aston Villa" "We are not a selling club and fully intend to replace outgoing players with those of equal or higher quality". None of these things, if true, would lessen our position for negotiations, nor would they lead to any media issues. If you have said in the past that we are looking to improve, we aren't a selling and that we have a long term plan for improvement. I'm actually not overly worried about the sale of Ashley as I prefer Albrighton and see this as a chance for him to get more games, Downing and Bent leaving however scares the crap out of me! I know the media would tell us the sky was yellow if they thought it would sell papers, but when you only hear one thing, no matter how untrustworthy the source is and nothing to the contrary then it is more than reasonable to believe it has some merit. If you come out and tell me a story in the paper is rubbish I will believe you as you have far more merit - but if they tell me one thing and you don't deny it when it almost seems as though it would be in your interest to do so... well... it's a pretty worrying time! Again apologies if this seems antagonistic or troublesome, but I am sure you can see why I, and many other fans have this view. I do appreciate all your time and its fantastic you give us this outlet - I do however have one more question/suggestion... regarding the manager situation - Do you think we will know what the intent it before it is time to renew season tickets and if not, do you think it might be an idea to delay the renewal deadline until we do. I personally know I am hesitant to renew with the uncertainty over our manager coupled with the only transfer speculation being about sales of top players rather than acquisitions. If there are some exciting things in the pipeline (which I realise you can't divulge) might it not be better to allow people to purchase season tickets when they have cause for optimism rather than pessimism? I only mention this as Villa Park has seemed quite empty this year and the atmosphere has suffered as a result... Again, thanks for being here!
  5. Hi General, Thanks for the general response and I am not meaning to be short with you but I felt my question deserved a more immediate response that the generic one given as mine actually has a deadline. For someone struggling to raise the money for a season ticket, with Ashley young signing to Man utd any day now and our best two players supposedly expressing discontent and not wanting to sign new contract, what assurance can you give me that I am going to be getting anything close to value for my hard earned money? Acceptable answers will be along the lines of... Downing is happy and not going anywhere and we are actually trying to get him to sign a contract extension Bent is more than happy and the papers are making things up We will look at replacing the quality out with a similar or higher level quality in. We are confident that Houllier will be fit to manage us for the entire season or we are getting in a proven successful manager such as moyes or ancelotti. Unacceptable answers that result in fans not purchasing season tickets are Buzzword buzzword not conducting business in the media Buzzword buzzword generic trying our best but wont say how I am not expecting 4 £30m signings, nor do I think signings should be in by now however every season there is a preseason excuse, last year Gerrard didn't have one and flopped, the season before Downing's poor form was attributed to it. if we are getting a new manager, we need him ASAP as i don't want a repeat of the mess we had last year due to MON. Other than that (if we even are getting a new manager that is, I actually have faith in Houllier) I am in no rush to see improvements. However, its not a case of improvement, its a case of even standing still. Each summer our best player is straight out the door with us looking for a replacement. Why can't we be the Man Utd or Man city, getting in a great player to strengthen straight away and then letting someone go - maybe then that player won't even want to go! Imagine if we declared a come home plea to milner if (vaguely realistic) a month ago - would that not have the likes of downing thinking wow... how good will we be, I'd rather take my chances of CL football here than liverpool! Life is about image.. you more than most know that!
  6. In addition to my previous much longer post - I have a short comment to make hoping for a somewhat reasonable response/explanation if you would so please. Last season I paid £550 for my season ticket. I paid this with us still having Milner, Young and Downing, our three best players and this coming off 3 top 6 finishes in a row. This season Randy is asking me to pay £30 more to see a team who will seemingly have none of these players and had spent 90% of this season fighting off relegation. Is that correct? Promises of "we are looking to do this and looking to do that" aren't going to help me come the day I have to hand over my money. If we are selling our best and haven't bought any adequate replacements do you think it is fair to ask 25000 fans to part with this kind of money based upon hope? Out of interest, do you know what last seasons average attendance and this seasons was... what are you expecting next season realistically? This post may have come across with a hint of sarcasm - that was not the intention, but as a business consultant with a solid understanding of price elasticity I would really be interested in how villa think this plan will work.
  7. Hi General I don't often post on here - in fact the last time I did may have been around the time of the £30m on a single player quote... and I may or may not have been who you were responding to Sorry for all that! Anyway - This is my third season holding a villa season ticket, Upper Trinity - the most expensive. I moved to London just over a year ago and yet I still returned for every single home game making the cost in time, tickets and petrol somewhat more substantial. Now I have been praying for Darren Bent for a few seasons now, with all our great midfielders providing service but nobody to finish it off, he has seemed the obvious choice for some time now - and how happy I was when he signed (thank Randy for that one will you?!). However... (yes it was always coming)... when I bought my first season ticket I was sold a dream of champions league football, and as somewhat of a PR man yourself you must realise the power that dream can hold. It is this same dream of champions league football that has been our downfall though. By this I mean that every single year since I have spent quite a substantial amount of money on villa we have sold out best player; first Barry, then Milner, now we seem to trying to up our game to losing our two best players in one window rather than the traditional one. Now I am all for youth, Albrighton is actually my favourite player now and I can see great things in Clarke, but are we really now destined to be a feeder club? When Albrighton sets the premiership alight next season, is all I have to look forward to the summer, where we inevitably sell him along with Bent? I realise that MON did not understand that a bench shouldn't cost more than your starting XI and that he really dropped us in it and that the first half of this season we suffered injuries like no other team, but really what is the plan... is there a goal? Man City were a game changer I know... Man Utd will never fail under Ferguson and if they get Jose then long will they reign and Roman Admittedly seems to have deeper pockets than Randy. All of those things are fine, they are things I have come to accept, but I think that 4th spot is possible, we threw it away a couple of seasons ago, we were so close! I know it is not always in Villa's hands to keep a player if he wants to go, but what are we doing to make them want to stay, find as good or if not better replacements (as opposed to Milner for Ireland). Apologies for the ramble, I know you do a great job for the club and I know Randy isn't a sheik with a bank account that just has a little infinity sign in it - This is my passion like I hope it is yours and I am just hoping for a response that is more than just spin and buzz words. I'm not asking for any specific names, I already hear from a reliable source that we are in talks with one player who is quite exciting but I'm more looking for an "all funds from players sold will be reinvested", "we are looking to bring in Ancelloti who will attract some starts", "We are going to sign our stars for 5 years plus rather than 3 years and letting them go for a fraction of the price when they only have a year left"... Etc... Just a passionate villain hoping to be convinced to renew his season ticket....

  9. Dear General Alot of people are asking you questions that you either do not know the answer to, or more likely are not willing to answer... such as who is coming to the club and so on and so forth. You have said you do not wish to talk about individual transfers but have been more than happy to state that if MON wants the money, he has it. Obviously this is a somewhat general statement as if he asked for 500 million to form a new real madrid, it would be laughed at and understandable so! But what i do ask is, as there obviously must be a realisitic limit, can we get a ball park figure of what randy is willing to put into transfers this summer, on the assumption martin finds players he really wants at the upper end of the quality and thus price scale? Obviously you know, and i am sure fed up of hearing what villa needs at the moment. this ball park figure will probably give the fans the insight they are after but asked for in the wrong way. MON is trying to break into the top four and has admitted we need several top quality signings to stand still. If this quote is true, then either: The money is not there to buy said players (i hope not nad somewhat doubt) He has the money but refuses to pay "the going rate" for quality players and is remembering the good ol days when Shearer broke the Premier League transfer record with a £15 deal These top quality players that we have the money for and MON is willing to spend on are unwilling to come to villa park and prefer locations like Portsmouth and Manchester or... MON is searching for players that do not exist or wont realistically come, leaving us with 2 mascots who may be forced to adopt full back roles. I guess with this post I would like to realisitcally understand what Randy's Financial intentions are for the club, is this to make as much money as possible in the short term, or is it a long term plan that results in me booking flights to the likes of Nou camp and the bernabau? what are his limits on transfers this summer, and why is it that martin is not making use of the available funds when all managers around him are spending like their money has a sell by date on it? Technically no questions about individual transfers, no "I know more than MON" advice, just questions about Randy's intentins and limits On a final note, your work here is very much appreciated, I have just purchased my first season ticket and i hope to have the enthusiasm to pruchase one next season!
  10. General, as this is my first post may i firstly say how great it is to have you letting us fans know whats going on in the club we so love However, our needs are becoming obvious, almost every play from Odense was down the left wing today to take advantage of our right back situation, so it goes without saying we need a right back and pretty damn quick. The keeper situation im unsure of because i cant quite understand how we have obtained a keeper of a quality worthy of progression into the top four for less than half a million, simple supply and demand dictates his price is low because nobody deemed him worth more?! as for Friedel, surely 38 is pushing it, so i ask why did all the speculation of Robinson (what according to the press was as good as a done deal) fall through? Also what i felt we lacked last season, and most certianly now barry is off is an all out attacking midfielder, not only a talisman like lampard to chelsea or gerrard to liverpool but someone to help chip in with the goals that are almost certianly not going to come from carew and gabby... as much as i like them, neither is a 20 a season man, carew is too slow and gabbys first touch is somewhat lacking, he panics, look at tonight, had he passed to carew it would have been a certain goal but he didnt know what to do under the pressure, a michael owen is what we need (isnt he unhappy at newcastle?!)... Sorry to make this post so long but having lost more players than we've signed, as well as being on the verge of losing our best player and talisman not to mention already having the smallest squad in the prem i cant possibly see how we plan to progress? the teams above and below us are signing heroes, and if not at least trying, im not asking randy to throw 200k a week at ronaldinho, but right now we need someone to make us believe that villa have a small chance of not falling below 6th, let alone breaking into the top four! Iv always championed MON, what he did for ashley was fantastic, but the transfers need to come, and soon, otherwise it will have all been for nothing! I guess what i am hoping for in response is some form of explaination for how a team with such promise, a great manager and supposed financial backing, is struggling to field a player in each position without even having injuries as an excuse?
