5th place is a certainty if not 4th. Ain't no way United are getting anything above 6th. Europa League would still be an achievement from where we have come.

Barring a meltdown for English clubs in Europe, 5th makes the Champions League. The only country that can stop this is France which makes the Lille game absolutely critical to secure that 5th place qualification.

  2. At last we've been punished for the ridiculous playing of one of the country's best centre halfs at right back ...... hopefully this may give Unai a kick up the ass. Every team starts with Konsa at cente-half without exception ...... move others around but to play Konsa out of position is plain stupid and it cost us today big time !

He wasn't very good, you can say it, it's fine and the simple truth about international football is, if you're not a prodigy or a truly world class player on the global stage - when you get a start you absolutely have to take the chance and Ollie didn't.

    ^^^ THIS ^^^

Lots of anti-Southgate garbage on here from those who have forgotten what previous managers were like. Ollie did NOT take his chance. He didn't work hard enough and was lazy for 90% of the game. Not his ideal game as Brazil were all over him but this is a higher standard than Villa and he needs to up his game and not just coast around waiting for others to put it on a plate for him.

I agree with others, he will go to the Euros but solely because there are very few rivals out there.

  4. Given our faltering league form, these Euro games are now doubly important to us as qualifying for Champions League via 5th place in the Premier League will be dependant on how far each of the British clubs progress in their respective Euro competitions. We are currently 3rd behind Italy and France and need to be in the top two to get the extra CL place so success for ALL our teams in Europe is crucial for Villa ..... remember that next time a British team is in action. Going to need to cheer for some teams I've never cheered for before !!!

  5. Torres makes a huge difference ...... always looking to play the ball forward. Don't want Meatball in the #6 role as he is not very good there and is a liability on the ball ...... should have played Tim there with Meatball in the #10 slot. Huge win whatever the shape and good game management at the end for once !

  6. The negative move is McGinn to defensive midfield ..... the positive move is to bring Iroegbunam in and leave McGinn in the #10 role. I really pray Emery makes the right move here as it could prove season defining. Now is the TIMe !

I don't believe you can concede that second goal, in that manner, without consequences.....being beaten in the air, like we was, is shabby, for a high placed team, like ours

Its glaringly obvious where we are weak, and the sooner we get some first choice centre backs back, the better.

I don't think that tactical, change lost us the game, it was debateable granted, but the thinking did make sense, to pack the midfield.....piss poor defending, lost us that game, as it did in the previous 2 home games.

It was just an error by Cash who is our weakest player as Emery knows but we have no replacement at the moment. He is not good enough for where we now are and the same can be said of the likes of Diaby and Tielemans. I'm pretty sure they will all be replaced by better in the Summer but, until then, we unfortunately have to carry them along with us.

some maybe. in my case i've been very much proven wrong with both luiz and bailey (i wrote off the pair of them) which is why i'm giving diaby time

..... surely from that form it is better for all of us if you write Diabi off too ?

  9. Genuinely don’t think he’s good enough for this level and I can’t think of a single decent game that he’s had. Despite the hype, he really is not fast, he rarely runs at players, rarely shoots and he is weak on the ball and easily bullied off it.

I want him to be good but he’s unwanted baggage at the moment and we need to leave him out ….. better still, loan him out or sell him !

Aren’t we only bringing in players to IMPROVE on our starting XI now is Rogers an improvement on Ramsey or even Zaniolo i would be silly to say he is

Maybe not instantly but pretty quickly the answer may well be "yes" which may be important if the other two mentioned continue to struggle for form.

It certainly wasn’t a good performance, and like I said we haven’t put in a good performance since the arsenal game.

    We need the break badly

We haven't played particularly well since McGinn lost form. He is a key playmaker for us but I've never seen him as bad as he has been in recent weeks. Not sure what is up with him but he looks slow, ponderous, confused and, at times, disinterested !
