VAR is shite. In theory it's a good idea (a lot of things are a good idea in theory), and I'm for technology for checking if the ball has crossed the line... but it's only ever going to be as good as the people implementing it, and those people seem to be complete morons for the most part. These penalty calls are a joke.

Pfft, Championship players aren't good enough for international football, everybody knows that.

The worry for England is that Roy has torn a hamstring, Root looked to be in real trouble with his back yesterday in the second half of his innings and while fielding, Buttler is recovering from a hip injury, and Morgan has back problems - although you wouldn't have guessed it yesterday.
Hopefully we can nurse them all through the tournament, but we have nothing in reserve. At least with Hales you knew he'd come in and we'd be no weaker for it - Vince comes in and the team suddenly has a weak point.
Morgan's record-breaking knock was a real pleasure, easily the innings of the tournament so far. Moeen's little cameo at the end was delightful too.

Well over a hundred unread on my bedside bookcase (the 'short list') alone. Hundreds more around the house. I am 65, so if I'm lucky (not a given) I won't get anywhere reading them all. And I keep buying more. They make me happy.
Yep, give me 19 more years and I suspect I'll be in a similar position!

I’ve only just started reading again the last few months. Do you think you’ll get through them ?
Nope.
Well, yes... but by the time I get through these, probably twice as many more will have been purchased in the meantime. Realistically my only hope is a financial windfall, enabling me to stop working and spend more time reading. But even then, I suspect I'd simply buy even more books. There is no hope for me.

Perhaps you chaps can help me out. I’m looking to buy a framed (or buy to then be framed) a map of either Roman Britain or Roman London as a gift. I’m actually struggling to find much online. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
There's an amazing map shop in Bath: https://www.dg-maps.com/index.html
Give them a call if you can't find what you want on the website, the shop carries tons more stuff.

I appreciate it's a really lazy comparison but he reminds me so much of Benteke in the videos I've watched, it's uncanny. Build, touch, the way he carries himself with grace and power, good in the air. If he can be two-thirds the player Benteke was for us he's worth every penny.
I was just thinking he reminded me of Carew... but I guess that's a win either way!

I’m gonna throw it out there Stiliyan Petrov, he did a job for us in the end but he didn’t turn out to be the player we were expecting from Celtic let’s be honest.
No, not the goal-scoring midfielder we thought we'd signed... but he developed into a brilliant holding midfielder, and he read the game better than anyone we've had since McGrath.

is it worth getting frustrated over? It really makes no difference and does no harm. And it _is_ the men's world cup. Good on them for pushing the women's game I reckon.

I've watched a few women's games this year, and while I struggle with the lack of pace, I absolutely love the fact that there's very little diving and feigning injury*
* disclaimer - have not watched a South American team

So, just checking I have this right - he didn't take a pay cut, but he did sign a new contract which paid him less money than the previous one? Which, while it did cut his pay, was categorically not a pay cut?

Darwin should be kept as far away from the rest of humanity as it's possible to get.

Suspect we've said something along the lines of if you stay, we're not loaning you out and you're not training with us. If you take less money, you can leave now and do whatever the hell you want - find a new club or go to the pub.

Unfair to blame one player but Ali cost us that game imo.
He couldn't be more out of form with the bat at the moment.
Interesting that as his batting gets worse innings by innings, he's developing into a really good front line bowler. Indeed, our best bowler yesterday by a mile.
Roy's dropped catch cost us far more than Moeen's batting did!

He would get roasted, let's be honest.
I dunno... personally I'm far more concerned about the left back slot that the right back slot.

He's been really good for a while now. Should be our first choice RB going into new season.

So Windies actually good or Pakistan just being terrible?
Little from column a, little from column b!
Pakistan always seem to be slow starters at tournaments. Wouldn't like to write them off yet.
Chop chop! Lets all gawp at Newcastle (again)
