  1. I'd feel pretty pissed off about Bruce if I was a SW fan. But given the lack of loyalty routinely shown to managers by their clubs, it seems a little unfair to criticize a manager for leaving when a better opportunity comes along.

What is it about Kiwi sportsmen? They all seem like genuine good guys. I'm sure it would be easy to find exceptions but in the main they seem like top blokes.

They just try to be the opposite of their Aussie neighbours.

  3. What an astonishing game. We were down and out once Buttler went, but I've never seen anything like those last two overs. Trust England to make it literally as difficult as they possibly could have!

I've aged about 15 years overnight.

In fairness, Dean Sturridge tends to have a lot of time on his hands, he's gotta do something.

But the stats it's a bit tricky, as prior to Mike Ashley, there were no Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea weren't the ones we know now. It was only top 3 (actually top 2, with Liverpool behind them).

Teams like us, Everton and the barcodes used to find it easy to stay up, well to stay top 10. PL wasn't like it is today. The quality has changed a lot. You could establish as a top 10 club. But once you get it wrong you might suffer and play for survival.

Chelsea were premier league winners in 2005 and 2006. I'd suggest they were stronger back then than they are now, as were Arsenal and Man Utd. Spurs were top 5 in both seasons prior to Ashley buying Newcastle. Sure, Man City weren't competitive, but Everton were.

Any way you look at it, Newcastle have declined under Ashley, and a lot of the blame for that can be laid on... Mike Ashley.

  6. Don't see what the big deal is here. Sure, we're arguably paying a little over the odds, but we've got Hause at a good price and El Ghazi was an absolute steal.

All three at well under 30 million quid all up? Gotta be happy with that.

Apparently the only reason they didn’t reveal yesterday because Facebook insta and WhatsApp went down !

have to say that is a really poor apppointment. I think he going to flop badly. Better for us if he does then hopefully means JT will have second thoughts on leaving us.

Well if Frank flops they won't be going for another inexperienced former player. Surprised they're taking the risk, but who knows, perhaps it will work?

  8. Team from the last game was a good one I think - 5 pace bowlers plus Rashid, and Root can always give us a couple of overs if we need something different. We've got more than enough to beat NZ, but they have a great record against us in tournaments and some very dangerous bowlers. Could go either way...

I recall an anonymous player(Patrick Berger) was shocked at his approach to training and tactics

I'm not sure that's how the word "anonymous" works 😁

    Exactly this......

Number one in the world playing ''friendlies''....the dogs bollocks

That's rather unfair... we've not been playing "friendlies". We've absolutely slaughtered most sides in the world over the last few years home and away, and broken a ridiculous number of records in the process. To suggest a one day series against Australia for example is in any way a "friendly" is just absurd.

Which is not to say we haven't been poor in this world cup - looks like we're struggling with the pressure for sure. Don't think you can understate how much we're missing Jason Roy at the top of the innings, he really sets the tone for what follows. Unfortunately it's now Vince doing that. Once Hales was dropped, we had nothing in reserve with the bat. I'd rather see Curran open than Vince!

Curiously too, the pitches haven't helped us - which is odd given that it's a home tournament.

India all but through now after beating Windies, which is good news for England. I still think this team has enough about them to come good - we've certainly got a few players that owe us some big performances. Let's hope they turn up!
