    The first penalty I thought Lille knew what was coming, the keeper tried to throw the ball away so that martinez couldn't get it first which resulted in a strange looking walk towards the ball with bentaleb broke out in to a jog It was almost like them trying to stop emi swung it the other way and went more towards the mind games

I would still like to take a European competition tax off the clubs that play in Europe, man city get say £100m a year from the CL, shave £20m off for the EFL, it spreads the wealth and reduces the disparity at the same time

    They've got quiet problems all over the squad To be fair VVD is back at a high level after dropping off last year but he's 33 in the summer, so is matip but whereas VVD will have more time in him matip is done at that level They might as well write thiago off as well Then the real quiet bit TAA has started 19 PL games, Robertson has started 13, they are absolutely key to Liverpool and they can't keep them fit Id also say that Jones and Elliot haven't really stepped up another level this year The midfield is good on paper with good individuals that you wouldn't say have had a bad year but at the same time there's nothing really elite about it Then you've got the very loud problem of nunez They need new players all over the pitch

    Saw someone last night say he lacked composure, I'm thinking the opposite I think he's too relaxed and too casual, thinks he's scored before he has Still a great save though, got to score but take nothing away from the keeper

    not really a general UEFA or competition thread to talk about this but watching last night i do think the conference league looks a good idea - not because we won...when the commentator is saying it's villa's first european semi final for 40 years, it was lille's first european quarter final ever, west ham won it last year, fiorentina are going strong again, the other QF was fenerbahce vs olympiacos, these are all "big" teams in their own right, its strange how a competition that i saw at the start as UEFA box ticking as you had icelandic and bosnian teams making it to group stages for the first time ever come the latter stages is decent, my skepticism has gone (i always wanted us to win it anyway, i didnt want us to play the u17s in it and not care) i look at the EL line up and maybe thats the same UEFA are their own worst enemy with these competitions

    Watched fonsecas interview and thought he come across well, Lille played some really good football and have some talented youngsters and then I'm sat thinking I wonder if he or they can get moves to the PL or to big European teams Footballs gone hasn't it? I wouldn't even say Lille are a small French team, 50k stadium, won the league 2 years ago, played CL but it's a case of with PSG in that league and French football now what can they all actually do there? I should be watching it thinking Lille can build and do something good but it's the opposite, like the "big club" stuff and poaching of any kind of talent is ingrained on me and at this point not accepted but expected Edit - I even googled the keeper after the game to see who he is linked with, its Bayern Munich

    If you enjoyed shogun try this after It's OK, it's a weird mix of historians talking over reinactments, you'll probably pick up the real characters fairly quickly

    For those enjoying shogun this is what I'd expect is the last episode, the battle of sekigahara It's almost a shame that the show is based on the book rather than actual history as they could have kept going or expanded it Also no masamune date who seems a good character in everything I've seen him in before

    Is it me or do olympiacos have a terrible terrible record in England? Like 1 win in 20 games type terrible Edit - it's 10 wins in 38 games vs English clubs, 3 wins in 19 away games - they've beaten arsenal 3 times

    That's a different thing, I'm not saying emi is out best ever player but he is the only villa player that can say he is genuinely the best player in the world at his position while wearing a Villa shirt And obviously world cup winner while playing for us Mcgrath can't say that, as good as he was he wasn't the best CB in world football

    The gifs that need to be made are the few times he looked over at the ref like a child who'd been caught being naughty and was waiting for a smack The dance at the end while looking over at the ref to see what he could get away with was amazing

    He's an absolute word removed and a disgrace to football, no one should ever think of buying him or wanting him at their club He's a genuinely world class best in his position player, maybe the first time ever at Villa you can say that, I'd like to think he's ours, he's one of us, even though I know that means nothing in football anymore, he knows what he means to this club

    Honest... For as good as he's been for the argies in shoot outs, with all the French booing etc etc the history there my gut feel isn't good
