  1. Can I have this week's lottery numbers please?
  2. Two games incoming that can have a big impact on our final position this season. A chance for retribution on Wednesday night against the Hummus. And then Arsenal at home too. A chance to do the double over them for the first time since... lord knows when. It would be devastating to record back to back home defeats again. Well, more annoying than devastating as we ain't really showing any signs of relegation angst or risk at this time. Anyhow, I am hopeful and mildly restrained with my confidence (yeeeeeee-haaaaaaa giddy-up, Gangnam style etc) that this fantastic team of ours that we've suddenly found and fallen in love with again can prevail... Come on you Villa Boys...
  3. Some nice moments on the counter, but this one did feel like we were under a lot of pressure in both halves. A frenetic, but fruitful defensive display, with Martinez my MOTM. All the bruhaha about VAR - to be fair to it, all it did was uphold the on-field decision. Nothing overturned. That said, I would have felt I had no grounds to complain had the penalty been given or the Ings goal. Neither are clear and obvious errors from the on-pitch refereeing team. The offside, is so marginal that in real time, I doubt even the most biased Villa fan would be screaming 'offside' for it. Such are the margins. But the biggest win is that Mike Dean didn't overturn the decisions. Listening to the commentary on Sky, they seemed desperate for Southampton to win - even the closet Villa fan (FIFA 2020 confirmed it to me) Alan Smith seemed to be cheering Southampton on and desperate for VAR to finger us. Anyway, we won a game against the run of play. Makes a nice change. Nice header from Ross, and a nice bit of work from Grealish for the assist. Bring on the Hummus
  4. This is a time to be humble and understand that we let ourselves down last night in various places on the pitch, and on the touchline. We've played 'worse' and won, or at least been under attack for long periods and not lost (Leicester... Chelski). I can 'understand' the prevalence of emotive language in the immediate post match fallout, but some of what I have read across 19 pages is nothing short of knicker wetting. We weren't robbed. Being robbed is Palace away last season. We weren't entitled to win anything. Short term memory for some people in context of where we've been over the last 5 seasons. And it shouldn't ruin your mood for the week. Again, in context, we're having a good season. Christ. There's a time and place for hand-wringing and worry - this wasn't it. We've been undone by VAR controversy, and although the form book is looking like a dicey spell, we've been up against two of the Top 4 in very recent fixtures. We go again... but it's going to be a tricky match on Saturday. We haven't found a way to play against Southampton. Yet. The best thing in all of this, including our recent patchy form is that we are still creating chances. We can get better at finishing them, of course we can. We can get better at game management and use of personnel. Of course we can. The time to worry is when we stop creating. For now, I shake my head and smirk a little at some of the reactions to this match.
  5. If only we had signed him last week and his debut was against the Toon. We could have had a 'Sansob on the Tyne' banner made.
  6. I think this is the post Liverpool Sean Dyche interview.
  7. A football match that from a Villa perspective, was very enjoyable indeed. Plenty of positive performances through the team, and a nice 'in off the underside of the bar' special from Bertie. I like those kind of 'dramatic' goals - so long as it's us that score them!! Chuffed for the team, and for the manager... especially pleased for Watkins. His overall play deserves goals. A very likeable player - so keep on going Ollie, probably my favourite Villa player just now. With honourable mentions for Konsa too, who seems to go from strength to strength. England can't be far away for him. Nice to see Nakamba do well when brought back into the side. I think we perhaps could have ground out more goals from our performance, but maybe we were holding ourselves back a bit. There will be tougher games to come - Burnley certainly not a cake walk given their current form. Up the Villa everyone... This, is a good spell for us to be a fan.
  8. It's about time we racked up a cricket score against these - still froths in my mouth about their 6-0 return to the premier league revenge result from 2010. Who will be the next messiah? Scarlett Moffatt?
  9. I can't really add any more to the debate about VAR for both decisions - the game is over and we can't change the result. But I do hope that Smith and Co continue to give pelters verbally over it and take the financial fines etc as comfortable justification for raising the silliness of it all. Overall, as good a performance as I could have hoped for realistically, and on the break, we did look useful. Some sterling defending too - such a long way we have come since this time last year. So fabulous that it was only 2-0 as a result of VAR malfeasance and 'body on the line' defending. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in all of the 20 pages is, that for how bad Moss was as the referee, we are very lucky not to have lost both McGinn and Grealish for the Newcastle game. Captain's armband or not, Jack could very easily have received a yellow card for the WWF throw to the floor of Kyle Walker - that ultimately saw the City play leave the pitch for substitution not long after. And if that wasn't cause enough, the coming together between Jack and De Bruyne too also resulting in the City player's substitution. You're a lucky boy Jack. So, the rhetorical question I ask of you is - how many would have taken 2-0 before the game (I would) and safeguarded Jack to be available to sword the Toon? Move on now Villa - the next two games are very winnable. So win please.
  10. But will the grass be the right length? Does it need to be cut?
  11. Can't see anything other than a regulation heavy defeat here. Our results against Manchester City are about as predictable as night following day. But hey ho, that's just how life is right now and we have to suck the mop and take what happens with good grace. I'm more concerned about 'long Covid' with some of our players. We could still end up being relegated (statistically right now and hypothetical before you all start wetting your knickers and throwing knives). Regardless of the result, it's still very much 'Smith In' and claret and blue love all around B6. Up The Villa... (let's hope we can avoid a drubbing that was suffered by the ladies).
  12. Fantastic... thrilled for the team and coaches. Has an own goal ever won goal of the month? If not, there’s a chance for a first. The teasing dalliances of Barkley, Grealish and Targett in the build up for the ‘own goal’ were enchanting.
  13. I can’t even see the differential boxes that form quotes from other posts. Each post is just a wall of text. I can’t therefore see what part of each post is a quote from another poster.
  14. I cannot now comment or reply using the laptop I’ve been using (work laptop during breaks) with VillaTalk. I’m typing this on my phone. For me, and far be it for my to ride rough shod over anyone’s hard work, but the site is unusable at the moment for me I’m afraid. I don’t expect you to change it just for me, so this might be my last post. My eyesight is terrible for viewing the forum on a phone.
  15. Quick summary. Martinez looks like a great buy. I was very impressed with Cash too. I thought we looked the more likely at 11 vs 11. Definite red card for Egan, regardless of Wilder, Carragher and co trying to find fault with it. It was a foul that went on for a full 3 seconds. Egan was the last man. Had he not been fouling Watkins, it would have been a clear, goal scoring opportunity, denied. I could see the Sheffield chance coming a few seconds before Targett fouled in the box. Penalty and a yellow card. Justice served. Sheffield had their chance, and Martinez saved it. Tough cheese Mr Wilder. Suck the mop... and wring your hands... again. For the rest of the game at 11 vs 10, I thought we had some great possession, but didn't try enough different ways to crack the egg. A nervy 1-0 win was the result. We still need signings - not enough on the bench to come on and change a game, especially against even better opposition. I'm starting to wonder if we need to buy a better replacement for McGinn, as much as that feels like heresy to say. He just doesn't seem the same player... I love you John, but something isn't right with you. Very happy with the winning start. Let's hope it's a portent of 1995/96 (!!) rather than 2015/16 in terms of how the season plays out.
  16. Maybe... I saw on BBC Sport website this morning that the Premier League Clubs are now concerned about the prospect of no fans until at least March 2021. And that they are 'wary' (lolololol) of having all of their games shown on live TV for anyone to watch as it 'dilutes' the demand and specialness of providers who have successfully bid for 'exclusive' rights. Money....... Money........ Money...... I have to be careful not to fall into an overly cynical train of thought. All I can do is smile and wave.
  17. Thank you Jack... this is very welcome news indeed. I hope that the Club can push on now and help to make all of our dreams come true. Up the Villa kid... Keep on trucking in the claret and blue.
  18. Sky will be licking their lips for justice to be done after the blunted Blades missed out on the Ghost Goal of the century in our last meeting at Villa Park.
  19. I am sensing another very hard season. Not a hard season, a very hard season. The noises from the Club have all been about kicking on and making sure that we never face up to a relegation battle again (or similar). Pretty sure the summer of 2015, Tim Sherwood said the same sort of thing. 12 months later, we were in a lower division and getting battered at Sheffield Wednesday. I'll support you Villa... but I ain't hopeful right now.
  20. Welcome aboard the good ship Villa...
  21. A flip-flop thread given our potential business or otherwise in the transfer market. Currently, I can't see higher than 15th-17th.
