If you can’t keep hold of your local, boy hood fan whilst on an upwards trajectory, what real chance do we have with any other player? Martinez deserves to test himself at the highest level, and if we can’t match that there should be no hard feelings on him looking to achieve that else where. Whilst it’s understandable it comes at the detriment to us we would receive enough and more to be able to sufficiently replace him and potentially strengthen elsewhere. Not that I want him to leave, but neither would I begrudge him if he does. He’s give is all to us, has promoted us on international duties, and I’ll continue to enjoy it all whilst it lasts.

Has anyone ever actually been stopped from bringing in their own bottles ? I bring a bottle in (in plain sight) to every game and have never had an issue. Have seen others brining in packed lunches and even tea flasks. We are in an upper tier, so I wonder if it’s only those in lower tiers who would have the issues.

Don’t believe that he should be sacked for foreseeable given the options available. However, believe we should make the necessary change when a good opportunity presents itself, regardless of how well or bad he is performing at the time. Think Chrisene would be the long term challenger to targett. An older LB would make sense in that way. Gives him a couple of years to develop while we plug a hole.

My take on who / what we are looking for this window based on the rumours we know: CF - a striker who is adaptable to play on the wing: Watkins (clear no.1 target), Edouard, iheanacho, Origi (reservations as I don’t know what his motivation would be). 20-30m CF - short term option while Wesley gets back up to speed. Read on article from MoM’s which made the case for Brewster till January which made sense. Loan Winger - fast, direct with good output: Rashica, Benrahma, Cervi 20-30m CM - Box to box midfielder, good aerial ability, adaptable to be more defensive if needs be: McKennie, Grujic, Billing 20m GK - compete for number one spot. Haven’t seen any credible links, but read they want prem experience, potential targets: Martinez, Gazzaniga (joe hart no.2 now?), Romero, Etheridge, Butland (bad season last, but with euros, and at right price genuinely think could be a decent buy). 10-15m RB or LB - Links suggest we’re looking more at right backs. While Guilbert has shown glimpses, he has a tendency to come out of position to attempt a tackle opening up our right side. Having said that Targetts inability to stop any crosses also scares me. 10-20m We add those type of players it gives us depth, and the ability to use a number of different players in different formations. My ideal window from the above would therefore be Watkins, Brewster, Rashica, McKennie, Gazzaniga with a RB added if funds are available.
