Lerner is going to become a joint owner as he is selling some but not all his shares. (He could not get someone to cough up all the money he wanted but will not say that). They new ownership team will appoint a DOF and they take a back seat. Lambert stays and will be backed in the summer to improve the squad (no amount will be announced)..... the club will still show fiscal responsibility and abide by FFP. Lerner will acknowledge the last few years have not been good but it was necessary to get our finances in order.... they are OK now so we begin a new phase. The future is bright but not enough to make us all wear sun glasses. ITK... nah...

He lives in California and has a family there and even when he was Germany coach still based himself out of there. The footie thing is definitely on the up over here. This is why these sports loving American owners want to get in on the act. The stats are there for all to see. The 25 years old and younger market is solidly loving soccer and I believe #2 in ratings behind American football. The problem financially is that it is the 40 year old + market that drives TV revenue and they are still solidly into baseball, basketball. However if the momentum gained with the new generation kids like my son is maintained for the next batch you will see soccer take another huge leap forward, When the current teenager is 40 and watching tv with his family then soccer will become a powerhouse for TV viewing and the money will flow. I am not sure how the MLS gets by on this because it is the European leagues that everyone wants to see, the MLS is a sideshow but growing all the time. If the MLS ever managed to get a major TV deal in say 10 years, there would be a flood of players coming over here. Before then invest in a team like Villa and assuming we are not relegated and thrown into the back lands of nowhere.... there is plenty of money to be made in the years ahead.

If he had 2 years left on his contract you could give him 1 more year (or until Xmas / New year) to prove himself but with only 1 year you have to back him (new contract) or fire him and start again.

Anybody that has a good season 1 should be allowed to have a poor season 2. It is pretty much famous for happening and we all know that. What matters is season 3. if we had a half decent team he should have been on the bench way more that he has been. He should have worked his way back to form coming on as a sub not as a starter in a struggling team where he is expected to repeat his year 1 form.

We should all tap the brakes here. Yes he makes awful passes and screws up way to often but he will develop into a solid defender in a couple of years. The type you want in your squad. I don't see him ever being great but much better than we see today...

The problem for me is that it is not that he hasn't spent money, it is that he spent money badly. Specifically on his choice of managers but also on the wages paid. After MON, the hiring of a manager that could slowly sort out the contacts while keeping us top 10 was essential. Instead we hired 2 managers who created nothing but turmoil while adding to the wage issue with their own signing...... Now we have purchased a couple of good players with the rest dross (at best with potential but my god some will really have to turn it around). I thought last year was rock bottom and the only way was up but this season is no better and heading downward fast. If we survive and if we sign 2 or 3 quality players and not 5 or 6 crap ones we may see the improvement we need. Without question the worst 4 years of my life supporting Villa. I can't take a 5th!!
