  1. This sounds promising Mirror saying that Villa are closing in on Benteke and Stephens http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-prepare-to-sign-christian-1289072?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  2. Weimann has potential to do well but Fonz has not made the breakthrough IMO so its better to bring in someone who has impressed at lower level and might make the breakthrough at this level instead of Fonz who didnt even get into a lower team regularly when he was on loan last season
  3. We have top to trust PL, many clubs sign lower league players who turn out to be good and the top clubs end up paying big money for the same players a little later, its good that PL has the balls to go for these players, and realistically can we possibly say the PL signings havent improved the squad? Look back at history and see how many of the Ron Saunders team were from top first division clubs, this is an exciting era and all will be well. Ofcourse Mr Lerner can help by backing a few top class players proven at this level. The problem is since MON left AVFC doest have the good standing that it did so proven top players may be reluctant to join is. The squad needs freshening up so we can lose the players that wont feature and replace them with PL signing that may feature
  4. For my money, Houllier is a manager who has just been found out. Houllier has not been in charge long enough to say he has been found out. The depth of the squad left behind was not good and there have not been enough quality players available for Houllier to put out a team that will not be outclassed by the top premiership teams. Mostly it has been MON's senior players who have either not performed and been a liability eg Dunne
  5. It was evident that under MON the team had potential to self destruct (eg 7-1 Chelsea) and even the loss to Newcastle earlier this season shows the size of the task that Houllier took on, the results did flatter to deceive under MON IT is MON who failed to make the most of what Randy LErner could provide whilst we got overtaken by Spurs who Redknap has transformed in a shorter time than MON has at Villa. Houllier is not a bad manager, he has inherited a bad situation, with injuries and under performing or mismanaged so called senior players in some cases money wasted by MON eg NRC (who will leave on a free transfer), Sidwell. It will be interesting to see what extent Houllier is backed in the transfer market, then is the time to judge the manager, but the facts are that with the amount of players in the team this year who were not in the team last year it is clear that the team on the pitch currently is not a quality premiership team and we will be outclassed by many premiership teams as the results so far have shown.
  6. Hi General, have hou considered having halal food at Villa PArk on matchdays and also halal food for corporate hospitality as this would further increase the appeal for a significant part of the existing and potential fanbase?
  7. General In know that we are only just starting the season but the home attendances so far have been very disappointing. This could be due to the feel good factor being eroded and some fans feelings that we have stopped progressing and disappointment with the club not signing the payers they hoped for. Are you and the club concerned about the attendances and are you disappointed with the outcome of the transfer window as a fan and as a director Personally as a fan I had hoped for more particularly a midfield play maker, however, I will put aside my disappointment and frustration and fully support the the team and the club. We do have some great players and hope that we can give performances of the level of the Liverpool match, we have competition for every position and hopefully the players will find that extra ability in the fight for maintaining a place in the team. I hope the club can soon progress to a level of signing world class players, I would be pleased to know your opinion on how soon you think we will be in a position to be serious suitors of world class players. UTV
  8. General, falling at the first hurdle is a major heartbreak for the fans, players and manager and board. Can you please advise what Randy's feelings are regarding the loss of revenue due to being eliminated from the competition at the first hurdle. I would imagine revenue from the group stages had been budgeted and this may affect transfer budgets in the next year. This may even afffect our chances of signing players in the current window (budget and appeal to the players to chose Villa over Fulham or Everton) The win at Liverpool was great and this level of performance needs to be maintained to enable growth of the business and brand value. We obviously need a winning and exciting team to get increased tv coverage on a world wide basis. The club has done very well in promoting the image, with off the field activities and when we were riding high in the premiership and beating Ajax we were very popular with the media. Do you and MON feel that in terms of business growth and club image we are according to plan? Also what commercial implications will there be resulting from losing to Vienna.
  9. Absolutely agree, our record since he joined cannot be a coincidence he missed good chances again tonight. We should do a buy one get one free offer and sell heskey and Harewood as a package
  10. Absolutely agree, our record since he joined cannot be a coincidence he missed good chances again tonight. We should do a buy one get one free offer and sell heskey and Harewood as a package
  11. Vienna didn't look very good but we couldn't beat them, whereas, Everton and Fulham won their first legs comfortably as we shouold have in this round. We couldn't beat a poor wigan team. The players are good enough but in any formation accomodating HEskey we are terrible. I really hope I am wrong. UTV
  12. The extent to how awful we were is demonstrated by the fact that Wigan have lost all their matches since including a humiliating exit from the cup
  13. I am going have faith in MON tonight, but, I do hope that he has the balls to change it around if things aren't working out tonight
  14. MON is being stubborn just to show that he got the team selction right against wigan and would have played Carew if he was fit. Playing Heskey and leaving out NRC is a big mistake. Hope I am proven wrong
  15. Things have needed to get better since last February and MON has been unable to improve on the relegation form. The start of the season should be full of hope, instead we are served an abject display and the manager says we were not good enough and that LAursen needs to be replaced and the rest of the team is good enough and will score goals. He also says the players were tired.. first game of the season. MON has lost the plot
  16. We may be the same in numbers but we have lost two major players who have not been replace to anything like the same level. Unless we are pleasantly surprised by the younger players coming through we will be weaker this season than last whilst the oppossition will be stronger. On our day we can beat any team but consistency is required and a sufficient squad to carry us through the season. If MON's transfer dealing to date are representative of his approach and success the I don't expect any major signings in the next few weeks. We only hear words and not enough action. I am worried about getting past Rapid Vienna to get to the group stages of the Europa Cup, we need a convincing victory against Wigan to take us into that game. Comeon MOn actions speak louder than words
  17. General I am also impressed with the professionalism, this has created a good working relationship with Leeds and resulting from our honourable conduct they have felt an obligation towards us and it has resulted in hopefully no other club coming in. I know you may not be able to confirm or deny that the club is involved in other honourable transfer dealings which will bear fruition shortly but I personally have a feeling that this is the case
  18. Dear General First of all it is great to have you back and we are fortunate fans to have direct communication with you on this forum. I would like ot comment the post by geoff43 where he says he is disheartened and he will stop supporting the team if MON does not sign players soon. Most fans continue supporting the team through thick and thin and saying you will stop supporting is fickle and childish. However, I can understand the frustration of geoff43 and others. I am sure that there is ongoing work behind the scenes in transfer efforts but actions speak louder than words and currently there is no eveidence of any action. What would you say to those who argue that there is not enough planning in squad development and after the woeful form in the latter part of the season MON should be clearly aware of the weaknesses in the squad and have identified his targets and player should be in place for the start of pre-season training to be best prepared for the start of the season? I think we now have a wonderful set up with a great owner and board and a charismatic manager, I would be most greatful if you could shed some light on the following : 1) Where does the board consider the club are today in relation to the aspirations form the start of the current regime? 2) What are the goals for this season? What would represent achivement or failure? 3) What do you consider to be our most notable achievements in your time here? 4) Where do you consider there is room for improvement and what if anything has disappointmed you so far? I am pleased that the board and the manager have positivley enhanced the profile and standing of the club and look forward to a winning future.
  19. His games/goals ratio for England is actually quite good I believe. Not good enough for AVFC though IMO
  20. Well, it is a game of opinions! We will agree to disagree, I don't want to see either of them at Villa because they wouldn't get into the team
  21. IMO neither is good enough for Villa now. Crouch is the better of the 2, Coles is not worthy of being in the England squad, he didn't do much on loan for Villa under O'Dreary
