  1. Are a few seriously writing this guy off? He is young, he is learning, and he is doing OK. His side are struggling, and have had a change of manager and a total change of style. Norwich fans thought AJ was useless for the first half of the season - Boro think he's the second coming. At such young ages, these players sometimes just 'kick in' - its the experience they need. Anyone need reminding of that photo of Harry Kane sitting on the Leicester bench when he was 20, in the Championship. Scoring 2 in 13 games. And sitting next to a 26 year old Jamie Vardy, who got about 1 goal during this period.
  2. This ties up the top 4 - unless Man Utd have a meltdown. Spurs and Liverpool players aren't going to break themselves to play in the Europa conference. Ours and Brighton's will. We have a chance at 5th, but am now expecting us to finish at wort 7th, ahead of Spurs. We have this in our own hands given how many of us have to play each other, and we play 2 of these at home. Just want Brighton to win today and make the FA Cup final, which hopefully will make the last game of the season an easier one for us (couple of heavy early challenges will do it, I reckon )
  3. These are the games Unai seems to be able to get results from - but historically we always struggled to. I think he will outcoach Frank, and that will be the difference. Beat them, and we're 10 points clear of them with 6 games to go, which probably means we can't finish worse than 8th (just don't lose to Fulham!). And that would be amazing. And if we keep winning, then we're applying the pressure to Brighton, Liverpool, Spuds, and maybe even Man Ure and Newcastle - with a lot of games between these teams to come. Pressure and the end of season 'on the beach' mentality can make weird things happen. Some news outlets are now asking if we can make the top 4 - which would be just ridiculous!
  4. I'd go even further. We don't know the recruitment set up and who exactly does what. Identifying Watkins, Kamra, Emi is probably the easy bit. We know from the Cutler interview that he pushed for Emi - credit has to go for looking at the stats, taking on board advice which was different, assessing the market and actually making the right choice. But this role has to balance the budget, and take the best action possible. We got rid of Ings in January - and it's worked beautifully. If it hadn't, we'd be going crazy! And sometimes doing nothing is the right answer, no matter the noise it creates. It also has to look after the club at all levels. If Feeney, Kerr, Wilson, Kellyman are all in the first team squad in a few years - Lange and the team would be well down the list of people taking credit, but I'd imagine they we heavily involved in that success (along with Harrison and the rest of the youth set up). They have a massive wide ranging role - I suspect most of us think only about the most visible 1% on any given day.
  5. Probably depends on how quickly they expect the likes of Feeney, Kerr, Swinkels, and perhaps Bogarde (although he seems to be playing CM on loan) to come through. I always thought that getting Carlos made so much sense at his age, as it bought us 3-4 years to get these guys up to speed, with 1 or 2 seasons of loans.
  6. I understand why - but the man is an arsehole. We don't need people like that around. Look at Man U since Ronaldo (and perhaps Pogba) left - sometimes the best players can be toxic, and you are better off without them.
  7. I like these games, so much so I'm going for 3 positions, with options: CM - Rice or Neves; perhaps Onana or Ward-Prowse if the price is right AM - Johnson or Maddison Wide - Bowen, Benrahma, Gibbs-White, Barnes or Gnonto at a push #(but what they want he isn't worth to us IMO).
  8. Anyone for Alexis Mac Allister? I really rate him - can play across the midfielder. We have a South American contingent, which can't hurt. And Brighton are a team would we would like to weaken if we are progress (which is amazing given their resources). I'm sure others will be in for him - but we said that about Kamara.
  9. Fulham haven't been as good in recent weeks as they were earlier in the season - and now Mitrovic could be missing for a while! Might help.
  10. Absolutely this. Portugal (for reasons I haven't tried to look up) and Spain have always seemed able to have players who we couldn't in this country. From a business model perspective - it just makes a lot of sense.
  11. True - but perhaps unfair. Under Smith, he was young, we were battling for points, Ollie was flying and/or Ings had just joined. Gerrard was (a) a bell end and (b) had one tactic - full backs punt in crosses all game. Archer is (*checks various threads*) 3"6'? Not his game, but the Chelsea game in the cup shows he's capable. Emery - this is the true test, but he needed game time in the second half of the season so the loan was right IMO.
  12. Great news. Guy's not perfect on the pitch, but he is off it. Also - nowhere near as bad as the cesspool that is social media thinks he is. The talk of him being 3rd/4th choice next year is also BS. We need 4 high quality CBs. If Carlos comes back but can't shift Mings and Konsa, this is a good thing as they've upped there game. Not a legend yet - but is on the right path.
  13. Watkins is a 1 goal in 3 player, even when he was played out wide. If he can get 6-8 goals in the remainder of the season, with others chipping in as has been happening since Emery joined - we'll be doing great. People (not necessarily you) forget that although Ings had 6 goals in the PL this season - 2 were penalties. As you say - staying fit is key.
  14. Back to Phil Dowd for me. Worst. Human. Ever.
  15. I was taking the pee. Not out of you - out of the "crisis" brigade
  16. Really? Everton raised £40m, and got rid of Rondon. We got about £12m for Ings, and the rest were loans, cutting short loans and a free transfer out. Emery out
  17. This is my take. If he is frustrated - its not with the club, but with the craziness of the January transfer window, and this one in particular. He's not here to make 12 months of progress and take the next step up. He wants to build something special, and to do that you need the right players for the next 3-5 year; not 3-5 months. I think some people believe managers just 'want a midfielder' rather than a specific players. Unai - "I want Guendozi" Purslow - "Marseilles won't sell. They quoted £80m. So I got you Lokonga from Arsenal on loan"
  18. Maybe. A couple of weeks ago, there was a report that he didn't want to come here as he was aiming higher. Now he's in a relegation battle. I have zero inside knowledge, but it suggests to me that it was all paper and agent talk, and therefore absolute bullshit. We as fans get drawn into this speculation which is why they do it about our club. We need to learn to ignore it.
  19. Thank you. Having read the last few pages, I was going to do a similar list. I've added a few in bold too. This is a list of wasted transfer fee's and wages, many of whom got people quite excited at the time. And this is why we're in the position we are now, and not challenging. There's gotta be £100m of fees there, plus more than that in salaries and paying up contracts. We now have a proper manager in place, who is at the peak of his powers. I trust him. Over recent years we've had Gerrard (useless), Smith (loved him but out of his depth), Bruce, Di Matteo, Garde, Sherwood (well), Lambert (we were broke, and broke him), McLeish (FFS); Houllier (past his prime but had a plan and too little time) and O'Neill (did well but was becoming a dinosaur before our eyes). That's since 2006. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to run the club properly for the first time in about 2 decades.
  20. Probably have a riot! But as you say, the FFP boost would be big, and it's nice to see the club do some housekeeping on our bloated squad. People moaning that we're down to the bare bones because we've moved on our 4th choice RB, our 5th choice CB and our 6th choice CM, and probably our 4th choice LB shortly. Of course, plus our 2nd choice (but very expensive and injury prone) CF. We've got some very good U23s, some of whom have returned to the squad, and Emery wants first team starters. No more Samatta's and Sanson's. This is all good.
  21. This guy gets it. Bednarak was an emergency loan for a 4th choice CB for 6 months. The fact we didn't need him doesn't make him the worst; it means we got lucky. Dawkins, Illori etc were all gambles which cost little. I would add Guatavo Bartelt (did he even play?) and Jermaine Jenas (3 appearances? But he does seem to have a soft spot for us in his punditry!) to the 'bad' list, as I suspect they cost us a fair bit.
  22. Coady; Tarkowski; McNeill; Gray; All players I've seen people on twitter say we should/should've signed this summer. I know the club is rotten; I know Lampard is rubbish - but perhaps Mings, Konsa, et al aren't that bad - no matter how hard Gerrard tried to make them look bad
  23. Next season he has to be involved. Not first choice necessarily, but as a rotation player; as a finisher, and become a starter in a couple of seasons. We need to keep the youth coming through or our finances become unsustainable.
  24. Absolutely. But... Tim is 20 in the summer In the year Foden turned 20, he got the equivalent of about 20 games worth of matches for City, including games in the CL. In the previous year, it was about 14 games worth for Foden. Tim got the equivalent of 4 (of which 3 was in the EFL cup) last season. Law of averages says the 30+ matches of game time he'll play for QPR this season will be better for him than a bit of time off the bench for us.
