  1. Back in the day - it was the scariest ground I went to. Quarter final of FA Cup. Ken McNaught punched away a last minute corner, Ray Stewart never misses. We were out after looking like might win the cup that year with that team. Trouble with fans all game. Then at final whistle the lunatics came flying out the chicken run onto the pitch & straight in the front of our stand, hurting everything in their way. As I am very brave, I remember running like f*** up the terraces, only to be knocked back by a policeman who were keeping the Villa fans in at the end for their safety! mayhem.
  2. Here here. This is one of my ultimate pet hates. So many people bandy it around nowadays without actually knowing what it means. But people who don't know it's "Hear, hear", not "Here here" may not be best placed to give us lectures on the meanings of words! :winkold: zing! LOL! Surely 'here here' as in yes yes is correct - not 'hear hear' as in listen listen.... :?: imho
  3. Big big yes - some years ago I did post that everyone should have their age in the profile & start any comment with - I was at the match today - plus- I have played football for a team and I understand the game - because reading some on the diatribe, it often didn't appear so. Nostalgia - what about the letters along the hoardings for the half time scores - occasionally the guy would drop the numbers in the wrong way round - oh the excitement of thinking Torquay were beating York City,,,,, for a few short minutes!
  4. Thank you Mottaloo for a chance to indulge. I bore my kids enough with stories of the good old days. Great to share with persons who know whats right. Premier league / Sky is where the sport I love, stopped being the same sport. Those AV lights you could see them lighting the sky on way to game with my Dad as you came over the barr beacon. Parking wherever you could (no permits) as long as you paid the protection money to snotty nose kids. Queueing Saturdays to get in Holte - if you arrived after 2pm - wondering if you'd miss ko Same queue. along witton lane - if you were on the inside - crushed against the wall at end of witton stand Nightgames were so exciting -looked forward all day at school. Crushed on Holte, swaying no control where the wave took you-catching occasional glimpse of the pitch. I'm sure Liverpool weren't that good -if they went 1 up - rest of match- ball in Ray Clemance hand That 5- 1 night against Lplop the European Champions - early Christmas present Took my 90 year old Dad to Everton game this year - he remembers helping to paint trinity stand in close season in 60s. My very earliest memory was standing on open witton end - terracing on one side - grass bank on other away from the pitch - on a wet saturday - i remember all these guys sliding down the mud, like festival mud. My dad wouldn't let me have a go. That Bournemouth game div 3 - my uncle thought he was doing me a favour - took me to Wolves v West Ham in div 1. Gutted but Villa first on Match of the Day that night brillilant.
  5. I haven't read whole tread - but looked back 3 or 4 pages. Am I the only person who gets very irritated by Kiaran Klark?. Yes very young & hopefully will grow into a great player. But he takes alot of chances as 'last man'; plays in an arrogant fashion (how great am I?) can't kick with right foot - poor in air (lost 99% today) & is...just ok...for a young lad - IMO. Got robbed today & nearly gave one away - did cock up against Fulham & cost us win. Can't understand the lording over KK on here!!
  6. Just back haven't read threads. The players were very poor - I sat there hardly getting upset watching an incredibly bad premeirship match. BUT I blame the manager for the formation. Unbelieveably with hundreds of wide men on the pitch - we had no one wide at all. Both full backs non existant getting forward & everyone was so narrow....don't know -why never seen that before. GH has now got to go - why was Dunn up front & Delfounsa on bench whole game - he has looked really lively lately & would have been ideal esp. once Heskey went...so so poor...so much wrong ....now v worrying because everyone looks capable of picking up points - apart from us & chelsea!
  7. Did you hear about the man with two wooden legs? His house caught fire, he burned to the ground!
  8. Archie - what does this mean? asphalting? squad high? Are you blaming Delfouneso for not blocking cross AND not being on end of said cross to stop header? I'm obviously too old to get down with the kids!
  9. are you for real ? yes i am, thanks for asking are you? i will know if you are or not if you try and say that fonz provided anything other than negativeness today. or if you try and defend his attitude today or if you try and come up with excuses for his shitness today or if you dont think the whole game turned on him coming on and gabby going off I don difficult to say whether Utd v. poor or Villa v good & made them look poor. Blackpool reserves, better than UTD. Some of breaks 2nd half superb my 15 yo son nearly in tears - never seen a win against utd. Nearly in tears myself with pride. Not sure how Fonz gets the blame?, (before gane thought unlucky to be dropped after weds) made 1 shocking pass when on a break - made 1 excellent defensive header. But whole team lost some belief when Gabby went off. Future all good
  10. Quote -The only good moment of that match was Bannan trying to win a header against Zigic...and not even coming up to his shoulder. That was excellent - the 'other' good moment was that fan in woolly hat who dived over cameraman to head ball back - good. Then appeared to get thrown out - bad. Can't recall any other moments of interest.
  11. It was on at Villa Park today 12pm. 41,000 fans there loads of space - all welcome. Not far from Erdington & access from nearly all areas of West Midlands, I understand !
  12. John Carew – 6 – A better display than of late but he has not been himself of late and he also faded as the game wore on before making way for Nathan. Led the line well enough early on but he seems to have slowed and to now lack the sort of goal threat that he had previously given us in hot spells. Had a shot deflected wide by Cech on 5 minutes after a strong challenge by Warnock had deflected the ball onto him on the edge of the box but Heskey was missed yesterday. Rest fine - but sorry john - don't get this at all - god help 'other displays' you refer to. He also 'faded' or disappeared is another word you could use, after his shot 5 mins. Hopefully GH extra training may assist Big John get some zest/effort into displays
  13. "Really? Were you drunk? Carew wasn't nearly as bad as most are saying, and I don't remember Delfouneso actually touching the ball" COPY QUOTE - i don't know how to do all that copying stuff this late on a Saturday RJW - i think the 5.30ko must have meant extra time at the cider farm? 1) if you thought carew was ok - or acceptable - or anything but very very poor 2) De Fonz won every header in the last 15 mins & was the reason Villa had a late goal threat & a bit of pressure with a few corners. With Carew on, the ball was coming straight back. Foz winning headers meant they were turning & running to their own goal & dragged Villa up the pitch. Apart from his effort in the second minute, I cannot remember Carew contributing one positive single thing to whole the game.
  14. when i was away on holiday O'neil went - happy days for me! West ham game -still away - great stuff then I read something in paper - saying MacDonald had been speaking to O'Neil - Oh no....Why? 3-0 down HT at Newcastle - same 11 come out - typical ONeil Everton - win....... just. No changes Under cosh today - desparetly need to shore things up - NOTHING. So sad.
