  1. He also says the days of bigger clubs coming and taking our best players are gone. “They can try all they want,” says Heck, firmly. “But maybe we’ll try to buy one of their players. I think this idea that we’re here for the taking is dated. And we need to move on from that.”
  2. He says the planned new north stand was cancelled because there was no sense in having a 50k+ seater stadium that didn’t have the surrounding infrastructure to support it (parking and train capacity). Says the brick warehouse at the entrance to the north stand will still be converted to a large F&B destination. Says he cringes at our players tunnel so they are redesigning it to make it much more intimidating for away teams. He says it currently resembles a council leisure centre. He picks out 3-4 areas of the stands from where they are on the pitch that need redevelopment but it doesn’t give anymore detail on those.
  3. Profile on him in the Sunday times today. Nothing too groundbreaking in it but he comes across well. He’s very well thought of at the 76ers and if he replicates the financial growth he managed there at Villa we’ll be in good shape.
  4. It's maybe a flexible deal where they pay us more if we qualify for CL. Maybe more again if we qualify for the knock-outs.
  5. Similar to Ollie but with a higher ceiling is an insanely high bar. That must be relative to Ligue 1?? If he’s capable of emulating Ollie in the PL and an even higher ceiling he’d have snapped up ages ago. Clubs will pay £100m for that type of striker.
  6. This is quite interesting actually. I think VAR is the reason inventive coaches such as Emery and Postecoglu are now playing insanely high defensive lines as they know they'll not get punished by a bad linesman's call and can take much bigger risks pushing forward. It'll be interesting to see if he changes things today now that there's no VAR.
  7. Out for the boro cup game. Hope this injury doesn’t drag on any longer.
  8. Wonder will we look to offload one of the crown jewels to get us back on track? Absolutely galling that Man City are almost breaking even on that table.
  9. Can imagine him going the same direction as Doku. RB is where City will spend big this summer. If they can get him for a bargain transfer fee they'll be able to throw all kinds of wages at him.
  10. Longest serving senior member of the squad behind McGinn (think he was Deano's first signing?). He shared a dressing room with Micah Richards, Tommy Elphick, James Chester, Henri Lansbury, Tammy Abraham and Birkir Bjarneson among others. Insane how much the club has changed since he's been here.
  11. I agree with all of this to an extent, however given the threshold for success is so high in the PL there is value to players who've proven themselves at PL level. For every obscure player that arrives from out of the blue from South America or eastern Europe and becomes an elite level PL players there's probably 20+ flops. The richest clubs can afford to take those risks and stockpile players who aren't good enough for their first team - we can't (at this stage).
  12. Is Finn Azaz not one of the best players in the Championship this season? £2m seems crazy low for a goal scoring midfielder with his stats. He must be out of contract this summer.
  13. Moreno would’ve been considered a squad filler option this time last year and ended up being one of our best players in the run in. Was nearly 30, never played for a top club, never played in Europe or internationally, and cost relatively little. I’d say Monchi and Unai will be looking at similar profiles this January.
  14. We’d need to spend big money to get someone who can play right back better than Konsa right now. I think Ezri is exactly what Emery wants in that position.
  15. Emery will be acutely aware of the 90/91 season when we signed Tony casacrino and immediately ended our title challenge.
  16. Keen to see dendoncker come in for him on Friday as a straight swap rather than shuffling Luiz / McGinn / Tielemans back deeper. We need to keep those guys higher up the pitch to make our high line work.
  17. It’s probably because he’s only made a few starts compared to Digne/Pau/Konsa, but he does seem the most nervous with high line. He’s always just half a yard closer to goal than the other three - just hope it doesn’t cost us. I’m sure after a few more starts he’ll be confident to step right up. Takes real conviction to play that line.
  18. The obvious exception is if we make a signing similar to Duran last January that's investing in the future rather than expecting them to jump into a side that's playing at a ridiculously high standard. Monchi is in charge now as opposed to last season, but I wonder if we would invest big money in potential talent if there's no immediate need to strengthen the first team.
  19. Agreed. What a superb position to be in - it shows just how well organised we are now.
  20. I guess it was in his interest to say that given the hiding we'd just given his side.
  21. Just love those raking sliderule passes he plays in to the feet of McGinn and takes out half the opposition in the process.
  22. It was also the fewest shots a Guardiola side has ever had on goal in those 535 games (2). edit - that was for the whole game not just the first half. City had no shots on goal in second half.
  23. Selling Ramsey would send a pretty strong message to our academy that it is essentially a separate money making enterprise for the club rather than training young players to play for Aston Villa. As important as it is that the club raise money, young players have to see some pathway to playing for the first team. Can't be great for the culture of the academy knowing you're only there to be trained up to be flogged for FFP reasons. Ramsey playing for the first team as well as the international team shows academy players that it can be done but also the standards required to make it at Villa these days.
