Think Unai didn’t want Ollie to be so public with his comments.

I like what Ollie said. If he's banging in the goals he deserves the right to question why we can't close the game out.

The same was said about Ramsey.

I think they bought Rogers with an eye on selling Ramsey in the summer.

Brilliant with the ball usually, although not today, but it could be argued every goal was his fault today.

I love the guy, I really do. But, today, the goals were mainly his fault. As a player, he won't watch that back and be happy.

  4. There's a different Leon when he's smiling. He's clearly a player who thrives on confidence. Unai is the perfect manager for Leon, to give him that confidence.

We signed Leon along with Emi Buendia and Danny Ings. They were supposed to fill the void left by Grealish leaving. In his last season Grealish scored 6 in 26 Premier League appearances. Leon has 5 in 13 PL appearances so far this season. I think it's fair to say that when Leon plays like he is now he's looking every bit the perfect replacement.

  5. I think Unai realised he needed Diego to go toe to toe with Haaland and he's probably the only defender that competenwith him physically right now, with Ty out. Diego was fantastic tonight.

Ezri at right back made sense because we know he doesn't get dribbled past.

    I have no words.

And anyone who still criticize the high line  you are absolutely mental

    Spot on!

The high line is the reason for our success. We are playing in the attacking half of the pitch.

I love Unai. If he asked for my hand in marriage I'd say yes. The man is an absolute genius. He's a freak! I was surprised at the team but the man absolutely knows what he's doing. Carlos against Haaland - beef vs beef. Put is faith in Bailey. Pushed Tielemans further forward. It was perfection. That's the most complete Villa performance I've seen in many years.

  7. Believe it or not, a Villa fan I know at work said to me after the last game "I am glad we won but when is Martinez going to keep a clean sheet?". I commented that I thought there was nothing he could have done about the Fulham goal and the guy replied "yeah but, what about other games? You can't be given the best keeper in the world award and then not keep clean sheets". I just gave up trying to reason with him that we are extremely lucky to have Emi. He is a big personality and gives us a lot of exposure. I think that our players gaining recognition means we are heading in the right direction.

  8. Believe it or not guys, we have a linesman who currently works matchdays in the Premier League, who used to live on Dovedale Road Perry Common as a kid. His name is Mark Perry. I think he lines the Palace v Everton game yesterday. He was a sound lad as a kid.

    @Rugeley Villa I like this.

like @sidcow I was also born in Dudley Road Hospital, lived in Gravelly Hill until I was 6, moved out to Dorridge (near Solihull, which I always say is Brum) then moved Darn Sarf when I was 19 (29 years ago) Still got the accent.

My last game at Villa Park was probably about 14 years ago, I've not been up for a number of reasons.

I too was born in Dudley Road. 😁

Gipsy  Lane that’s where my grandad grew up. Years ago when Perry common got knocked down I worked on some of the new houses on the estate .

I grew up in Dove Dale Road and used to spend most days playing football in Witton Lakes Park or the rec between Witton Lodge Road and Perry Common Road. When I was a kid I got run over by a car on Perry Commom Road lol.

    Sand Arqoob 2.50 10/3

    potential returns £769

    Sand 12.30 Individualiste 3/1

    Naas  2.00 Summerville Boy 20/1

    Sand 2.15 Fast Buck 14/1

    Sand 2.50 Tottersdown 14/1

    potential returns £8448

Summerville Boy is without doubt the class act in his race. But, the drop in trip and top weight are putting me off.

And old favourite of mine goes in that race - Drop The Anchor. He's well down the weights these days and it looks the right trip for him so I've had a go at 28/1.

  12. Paul Nicholls had a great day at Wincanton yesterday. He rules that track so it wasn't too surprising.

Today, Nicholls sends a few runners to Sandown. He has the favourite in the last race, which is a 2m bumper. Interestingly though, he has sent just one runner to Ffos Las for their final race, which is a 2m bumper. The horse is owned by JP McManus and a debutant - Jalila Moriviere - and currently at 6/4 with Bet365. It's French bred so maybe he sent it there knowing it will get softer ground, which French bred horses seem to relish? It's also Lorcan Williams' only ride on the card.

Also at Ffos Las, Donald McCain has sent just one runner on a 7.5 hour, 280 mile, round trip. It's ridden by Theo Gillard - his only ride on the card. The horse's name - Gold Emery. I'm all over that at 6/1.

What do you as a punter think is more important out of anything ?

Distance / Going / Class / Handicap mark/ Course form

for me the main thing is the distance. You either get the distance or you don’t where as I’ve known good ground horses win big races in soft . I give each criteria a % when I try and rate a race up . Trying to figure how by percentages at moment

In races over longer distances, so 2m 6f+ over the jumps, on soft worse ground, I like to look for horses with lower weight who front run. I just think they're harder to reel in.

Spurs and Newcastle's style of play is starting to hurt them already imo. Playing at the tempo they do continually isn't the way to do well in this league, Leeds found that out under Bielsa. It's a pretty good way to wreck your squad if it's not deep enough. I'm starting to think this is where Emery is going to come into his own in managing the lads. The slower tempo at times and ball retention is 100% a benefit in not having our players run into the ground. We pick our moments, Spurs and Newcastle just get at it all the time and I'm thinking it's not helping them.

You make a very good point, mate.

I was watching us against AZ in the week and thinking about the way in which we build our play from the back with its slow and deliberate pace. Us dictating the pace of games pretty much means we exert ourselves as much as we want, pretty much.

I think this philosophy will help us keep players energy levels at a good enough level throughout the season.
