  1. No Mings, no Buendia, no Luiz, no Kamara, no Ramsey. But we can show up title hopefuls. And but for the fractions of an inch it could have been 4-0. We've had plenty of bad games, and we'll continue to do so - even if we were perpetual cheats with the backing of a nation state, every team has their pants pulled down occasionally. But **** me, does Unai make it worth it. Keep the **** faith, we're in for a hell of a ride, and Emery is just getting started.
  2. I have no idea what the **** you're talking about to be honest.
  3. I forgot about his own SM platform."ReTruths"
  4. Yeah, we had another discussion about this a few months ago, and I'm with you. I went so far as to have the same drink blind poured from a can vs a bottle. Couldn't tell the difference at all, and I'm one of these rocket polishers that loves a tasting note when it comes to beer, coffee, wine, whiskey... I'd be impressed if someone insistent that they can tell the difference could do something similar and reliable pick out the right one at a better rate than pure chance. Obviously it's a different matter when it's directly from the receptacle, I hate drinking directly from a can.
  5. You're right to point out that for our Kane and Bellingham, other teams have top individuals as well, but I can't see someone single out Jordan **** Pickford as one of the strengths of this squad and keep a straight face.
  6. The whole point of cups is you can just scoop to the top and you're done. If you've got to faff around only filling up to a specific line, levelling it within the container, putting a bit more in or taking some out, it's kind of pointless, just use the grams and weigh it properly
  7. There was an interesting article in the Times this weekend about birth defects, comparing the choice of generational incest and inbreeding with the choice of a mother having a "geriatric pregnancy" in her 30s. That may have been an older mother a couple of decades ago, but what responsible woman with a hope of having a career along with giving her child a decent life can afford to have a child in her twenties these days?
  8. You're absolutely right in principle, but this, and my second point, are the important bit In 30 years, do you really think the state pension exists, or isn't at least means tested? This pyramid scheme can't go on forever. The infinitely growing pension pot exists in the same economic fantasy land as the infinitely growing GDP, and it's going to come crashing down. Some pensioners love to cry "but we've paid in for this for our whole lives", but what they've paid in is nowhere near what they're taking out. The system is a scam, and the younger generations are its victims.

    Liverpool

To to admit, Sven taking in the cheers from the fans for this charity game between Liverpool and Ajax has brought a tear to my eye. They do some good stuff even if they're a bunch of nobheads.
  10. Nah, sorry, this isn't a very well informed understanding of how it played out. HBO were pushing for additional seasons. They offered D&D as much time as they wanted, with the initial offer (at the end of season six of eight) being another 3 or 4 seasons. D&D went for 2 more. HBO wanted more episodes, and more seasons (D&D have publicly acknowledged this). GRRM publicly expressed his surprise that they were wrapping it up so quickly (thinking it would probably go to season 12-13). The showrunners unilaterally said no, this ends here. Presumably the contracts they had when they were initially given the IP gifted them the power to kill the golden goose. Perhaps there was something else behind the scenes that hasn't come to light since, or maybe it was just that the showrunners wanted to go and make Star Wars.
  11. I'm absolutely baffled by the new Michael Spicer stuff. He's the guy that got a lot of views for his "Room Next Door" stuff, particularly during covid, lots of very funny scenes of him losing his shit at politicians during press conferences. He's since branched out to a range of long form videos that are just him ranting about things that annoy him. And I can't figure out if they're meant to be a bit, him in character, funny in any way, or if he's just lost the plot.
  12. I think the problem the younger generations have is twofold It really, really **** stinks that the state pension has a triple lock while working people have been shafted for a generation. Wages stagnate, the cost of living goes up the pension goes up. An ever increasing number of working people reliant on benefits and living in poverty while their taxes go towards a triple locked pension for the wealthiest generation in history is vile. And yes, there are lots of pensioners in poverty and lots of youngsters living the life, but we're talking broad trends. This is obviously a systemic issue. Individual boomers aren't the problem, the broad group of pensioners voting for their own interests and pulling the ladder up behind them is, though. The political class and wealthy elite encouraging this is a bigger one. Secondly, particularly over the last 20 years, the younger generations have been shafted again and again. People in their 30s and younger know nothing but the government making their deal worse. Ask people in their 20s and 30s what they think their state pension will be and most of them will laugh in your face. It's not something that the two flavours of centre right corporate bitches are putting to the electorate, so what's the alternative? Riot like the french, I guess.
  13. It's a sad day for the state of UK political discourse when Gareth Southgate comes out with more sense than the PM or leader of the opposition. The manager of the national team quite rightly points out that it's really not very high on his list of priorities. If only our **** prime minister and his replacement had a list of priorities to distract him from such trivial nonsense
  14. Toney has scored 4 and assisted 0 in his 10 games back. In Watkin's last 10 league games he's scored 7 and assisted 2, and has continued that form for a lot longer because he's not a betting cheat. So they're pretty much neck and neck.
  15. Indeed, it's easy to just dismiss the strong feelings when you never cared for the show at all, but for millions of people it was a story they'd been following for a decade on TV, or two decades for people that started with the books. It wasn't just some random show people watched when they felt like it on a streaming platform, it was the topic of conversation the morning after the broadcast in workplaces across the world. It averaged 45 million viewers in the final series, with 3.2 million people in the UK watching the final episode on live TV when it was broadcast at 2am on a Monday morning.
  16. Typical snowflake dragon heading over to the far left
  17. It'll come down in April to be "at least" £1 below the updated price cap.
  18. He wrote about a thousand pages for it last year apparently, but that's from the same bloke who thought he'd be "done in 3 months" about a decade ago. Either he's just not got the motivation to finish it, and who could blame him at this point, or he's got absolutely no idea how to bring it all together and every time he writes a few hundred pages he realises he's no closer to an end. But this maybe belongs in the what are you (literally never going to have the chance to be) reading thread
  19. He should really just stop pretending at this point. 13 years since the last book, there is meant to be at least 1 more, and he's against letting anyone else finish the series when he inevitably dies before finishing it. From the 3rd onwards I bought them all on release day and re-read the preceding books, but at this point I don't think I'd bother with the next one even if it ever comes out.
  20. It's probably the biggest nosedive in quality in TV show history. Major plotlines were just abandoned, characters stopped acting like themselves, characters started zipping all over the world, the attention to detail was a joke. Some of it was just so bad I was cringing watching it ("hey guys, maybe we should let people vote. LOL, wink wink, where's that 4th wall. Do you get it?!"). Did they deliberately sabotage it? Almost certainly not, they just didn't give a shit and wanted to rush off to the next project. In an ideal world, they'd have left and let someone who still had a passion for the project take over. I'm not so angry I'd deliberately cut my nose off by never watching anything they do again if they make something brilliant, but I'd certainly not invest in a long series that they're running until it gets to the end. Once bitten twice shy and all that. I don't hate them, I just think they're a pair of greedy hacks with no respect for their audience.
  21. I also suspect that the retirement of that old bastard Ferguson had as much of a role to play as Southgate.
  22. The flag controversy works as a convenient distraction from the fact that it's eighty five **** pounds for the cheap version
  23. I've literally never heard of two of those players
  24. Which is amusing, because the cups are probably more accurate. How much is 1 egg? They vary in size I also get annoyed by "1 carrot", "3 shallots"... Give me the grams
