  1. Agreed. As an outsider who doesn't get our history or heritage much, perhaps he assumes the post 2007 bad is the heritage. But light yellow on a light blue backgroud looked cack in 2007 and it still looks bad now. The 2016 modifications made it look less bad, but this seems like a weird tribute to Lerner's original vision.
  2. You can carry an inconsistent wide player or winger, you can't really get away with an inconsistent centre half. Even Nyland could manage the odd good game in 20 or 30 matches. It's not enough.
  3. At his age he's not going to get a whole lot better. Wonder if we might be able to trade him to a Spanish club, still has a decent reputation there. Hasn't been up to the pace of the English game, for the most part.
  4. I felt we could have utilised him at least in the ECL games and as an impact sub in some PL games. But his body can't seem to withstand the walking football standard that is the Qatari League, so there's no way we could bank on him here. A real shame, those moments of quality against Yanited, Leedzzz and Soton at home and Leedzzz away offered a tantalising prospect of better things to come.
  5. Might look better on the balance sheet, won't look particularly good on a football pitch. Anytime I've seen Wan Bissaka recently he looks like an athlete who only started playing football in the last year or two. Miscuing simple passes and generally having a look of Harwood about him. Against Copenhagen he was directly responsible for two of their four goals conceded. We have an organised defence for the first time in McGrath knows how long, with each player comfortable in possession and disciplined and smart enough to contribute. Signing a player like Wan Bissaka (for little reason other that he's nominally a RB and moved to a big club for a large fee a while back) seems like a retrograde step to me.
  6. Well we were bidding on that 31 year old Argentinian left back in the summer - for more than we paid for Moreno. Until he got injured playing for Sevilla.
  7. I'd agree with that. I remember one of BFR's programme notes in 1991/92 where he mentioned that Villa had not finished top six in successive seasons since the war. Little and O'Neill managed it and it's something Emery will need to emulate. It's far easier (though not easy) to go from there to top 4/top 3, than it is to go from mid table > top four.
  8. From an era we'd all much rather forget. In dark periods you sometimes have standout players who raise themselves above the ineptness around them. Vlaar isn't in that category.

  10. I think you're right. Israel clearly can't keep its citizens safe and often draws parallels with apartheid South Africa - even during relatively quiet periods. Definition of a failed state, that. Trying since 1947, still can't get it right. Turn it over to the Palestinians, the Bedouins or any other deserving cause.
  11. Not sure why some of y'all are still responding in good faith when it's clear this fella is on a wind up. Take an extreme alt right position, litter that extreme position with cack spelling and wanky fonts. Then complain that people are not tolerant of your radical thinking. Next there will be references to wokeness, lack of free speech and so on.
  12. This dude has a very similar posting style to that pro Russian bot (McKay?) who was smearing his shitty arse all over the Russia thread. Same whattaboutism, same appalling English.
  13. Maybe it's a play on that US maxim 'destroy the village to save the village.' Or perhaps it's just gibberish from some sort of Israeli/ far right bot. Remove most of the current leadership (if that is even possible with all their connections abroad) at the cost of thousands of Palestinian lives will ensure that whatever comes next is far far worse than Hamas.
  14. When the star was initially mooted (back in 2007, pre Lerner badge) the feeling was we'd be going circular again. And the star would sit atop, like Celtic and a few others. I'd still be happy to see that on our traditional round badge, say if we did a third all-white European away strip. And kept it for a few years. But included within the badge itself - whatever the shape - it looks like the lion is swatting summat away.
  15. I wouldn't mind a Luke-style shirt every few seasons just to vary it a bit. The one TT knocked up last summer had claret sleeves with claret body yet still looked totally Villa. The purple Under Armour efforts or that weird pink effort Diadora effort in the early noughties are far more offensive to me.
  16. Rather than another costly rebranding exercise, I'd be happy to see a replica of this badboy back on the Trinity. I'd even chip in, if we were doing a fundraiser for it. Should have been done at the time of the rebuild (if we even needed to rebuild at all - a whole separate argument). Sheff Wed and others have been able to rebuild their main stand whilst keeping some continuity from an earlier era.
  17. It's a bit Torino or Arsenal (the latter re the shape of the crest). But better than the Lerner design or the club's weird gaslight option last year. There were some of these kicking about when we were due to change back in 2007. The quality of those made Lerner's Pro Evolution/ Microsoft Paint effort look even more lame.
  18. The gaslight just seems like a novelty. No credible evidence exists for that origin story. And even if it did, 'it's a bit of a naff design. Plus, if the arse was to fall out of our season next year or after there will be plenty of 'Villa owners gaslighting the fans again' type headlines. Let's not leave ourselves open to that. The stripped down diamond design looks simple and clean; it's a nod to the design on the old Trinity but somehow looks contemporary too.
  19. Is it true that the senior figures at Castore are friends with Steven Gerrard? Carpethead's revenge.
  20. That's excellent, TT. I was thinking about a diamond style design previously. A few German clubs have it. But no other notable English clubs (as far as I'm aware). The lion on the roof of the old Trinity was set against a diamond backdrop, so ties in with our heritage as well.
  21. The two badges thing doesn't worry me unduly - even if we were to go that way for the foreseeable. Inter Milan, Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers to name a few all have a shirt crest and a club logo for other purposes. So long as we don't have three or four on the go at any one time.
  22. Looking at Teale's 'tache's version and you wonder how people paid a fortune to deliver the real thing can make such a hames of it.
  23. I like the round monochrome version. But might be too close to Chelsea 2023. So the standalone for me.
