  1. I actually whilst he is a good vfm signing and useful player Chambers is vastly overated. If Chambers starts the season I think TM or Konsa will quickly be restored to the side.
  2. But as things stand is he making our starting 11 in just over a week's time. ? Probably not imo.
  3. Well based on last season certain players seemed guaranteed a start. Let's hope that's not the case this season. I don't think it will be. More of a problem will be finding his best 11.
  4. I don't think it was. Some were just asking how much coaching Stevie G does. A lot or very little - it doesn't matter so long as results are decent. I mean Critchley is obviously a Stevie G apt - so the kudos or otherwise rests with SG. Edit : wrong quote - but you get the point.
  5. Whether he is clueless or not will depend on results. He has his own players and a pre season to prep them to his liking. Just over a week until the season starts and we get to see how good he is.
  6. No. My recollection was that towards the back end of last season Stevie G announced that the captaincy position would be reviewed over the summer.
  7. Well it depends more on Ming's. For all we know Ming's may be pleased not to captain ( I doubt it but you never know). Clubs looking a CB may be alerted to this news - clearly if TM starts ripping it up at another club then questions will rightly be asked. But that's a long way down the line.
  8. As I have said elsewhere I think the decision has been handled poorly - this should have been a discreet discussion behind closed doors. As for Stevie G imo he has a talented squad of players.his success or failure will be dependent on if he can mould them into a team.
  9. If the problem was Ming's being captain when it should have been Mcginn I wonder why it's taken him since November to realise that. To be honest switching the captaincy to Mcginn (or any other player) is only ever going to have a very nominal impact (if any at all) on results. We would probably still have lost those 19 games last season. It's another dubious decision from Stevie G though - that's the bigger issue here.
  10. I thought Gerrard had alluded to this on at least a couple of occasions. Him saying Beale was the brains behind the coaching etc. Not a dig at Stevie G - I just thought he was ok pretty open about leaving the coaching (to an extent) to his head coach.
  11. Tbf the managers makes the call and he knows both players better than any of us. I like Mcginn. My problem is more the way the issue has been handled than the decision itself.
  12. And we must copy Liverpool at all costs
  13. Not really - it's a very public vote of no confidence in TM. He's brought in 2cbs now. I think the writing is on the wall for TM now. Be surprised if he starts v Bournemouth. All IMO of course.
  14. I disagree the NEW utd manager has kept faith with the existing captain. An existing villa manager sticking with the existing captain - wouldnt be news much beyond this forum.
  15. Agreed. But also the point of the squad is to select your best 11. Remains to be seen if TM is seem (in Stevie s) opinion as one of the best 11 players at the club. My feeling is he doesn't.
  16. It's only my opinion. If Ming's stays and retains his place and performances from him improve* - then Kudos to Stevie G. * Not that I thought his performances were poor last season.
  17. Would say to me that another club appreciate him more. If we were winning trophies and fighting for Europe yeah fair enough - but we are most likely going to mid table. Gerrard has brought in 2 CBS now. If I was TM - I'd say "fine Stevie - you don't rate me - I will find a manager who does"
  18. But why do it in full glare of the national media and have it rumbling on all over summer ?
  19. Or find another club. That's what I would be doing if I were TM right now. Wouldn't surprise me if he moves on now.
  20. Hes great because he is a member of the villa family and has been embraced by us all.
  21. I said Minor Farce. Fully agree its not a big issue - but as this level of elite football marginal gains matter. IMO the instant pre season starts you want as few variables as possible. Everyone can start working knowing who the captain is. I remember Graham Taylor saying about pre season. Everything was set up to a granular level. Who gets the cones out, who gives out the bibs, who the captain is, who takes the penalties, etc. It was all part of his famous 'Shambles Speech'
  22. Really ? It was Gerrard who through the whole captaincy debate up in the air when he announced that it wouldn't necessarily be TM next season The fans have merely speculated who it might be. Like we would if we were after a new striker, goalkeeper, coach, stadium. Don't think you can pin this one on the fans. Any club would speculate the same.
  23. Yep everything is in place. It's very much over to him now. He knows and has pretty much said that.
