  1. I had heard, from a reasonably reliable and well connected (in Wolverhampton) that we had signed Michael Kightly in a pre-contract in January?? Maybe MON has started early but is keeping it very quiet, as is his way.
  2. I think we might be getting carried away. We may be points ahead of last seasons's tally on both games and specific opposition but I suspect the teams around will also be as the five or six teams below the top 4 have all strengthened and the gap between those teams and the bottom tier has widened. Be interesting to see their analysis. There's a challenge BOF! If you manage that we will have confirmed that you do have no life outside of stats!
  3. I think its important to recognise that, whilst we have played more home games, we have also played the majority of the teams in the top two tiers i.e. top 4/5 plus "our mini league", excepting Arsenal, Blackburn and Pompey. In theory, the run up to Christmas should pitch us up against teams where an average of 2+ points per game could be achievable - Bolton, Derby, Blues next up with Sunderland, Boro, Wigan & Reading also to come.
  4. Liverpool was a massive disappoint. MON's tactics were poor in that game - playing Stan had a number of impacts - left us short on the RHS - confused NRC and Barry - left us short up front as Gabby was coming out right to cover and also trying to play of JC In addition, JC and Laursen had been sick and should never have played. I would love another crack at 'Pool at home 'cos I don't think they are as good as Chelski, even with Stevie G playing. But since the change to a proper 4-4-2 in the 2nd half against Fulham we haven't looked back and I hope MON has the balls to keep playing this. A solid back 4 (two defensive full backs) gives the wingers a bit more freedom and NRC. Flying wingers means that we can get 4 forwards onto the oppositions back 4 and this creates space for everybody - Ash can get 1 on 1 with RB, Gabby can steam in against an isolated LB and Like gets space to play of JC. What else would I like? A few chances for Shaun in the right games and to see a bit of Marlon, agian in the right games. A RB in the New Year and probably a decent midfielder to join. Overall very optimistic as BOF says. You might even say that the future is bright.
  5. I don't believe. Lets get Sven in to buy 10 players on the back of a video fest and then we will have a huge squad. Good job he didn't slip a few of his blue movies in or else their forward line would be John Holmes and Ron Jeremy! Of course, I'm only joking. Lets have some patience. We've waited 25 years, another three weeks can't kill anybody can it? We've got the manager we all wanted and now we are all crucifying him - we are fickle and I'm ashamed!
  6. I agree with Grant's 5. We are not seven down as many of the exiting players did not play last season e.g. Hendrie, DJx2 and Sutton/JPA after Carew arrived.
  7. As a Villa fan I am amazed that we are finding the approach that West Ham are taking as surprising. They have a potentially valuable asset and have every right to try and increase the competitive tension. I would have hoped that we would have done a bit more of this but we always seem too nice in our dealings e.g. Vassell for £2m at the same time as Morrison left Bloose for Palace at £2m, Crouch for £2m without a sell-on clause, J Lloyd on a bosman etc. I think and hope that we will get him as he is a proven premiership performer in that DM role and there aren't too many of those left and available??
