  1. Interesting moral question then. Is he a hero? I think we'll hold fire on the knighthood, as it would be inappropriate. His actions in this context were heroic. Perhaps that's best way to frame the actions of the members of the public that were involved.
  2. Knighthoods for all of them. That's immense.
  3. Here we go, another debate. I have to admit, I love elections. I find the the public debate (public opinion) and the campaigns really interesting.
  4. I am in awe of the members of the public who risked their lives to save others. They truly are amazing. I would like to say I would do the same thing. I've always said that to myself. I'm not sure in the moment whether I would.
  5. She is doing her job and doing it well. Her masters are pleased with her, so pleased that they got carried away and forget that she is meant to appear impartial.
  6. Laura K has been campaigning for the Tories for years. This is nothing new.
  7. It was nice to watch a debate where the politicians seem to totally agree on the issues and only differ on how they tackle them. It was nice to see a debate where I largely felt that they actually believed in what they were talking about. It is disgraceful that Johnson didn't feel that the climate emergency was an issue worth debating with the other party leaders. Farage is an embarrassment to mankind.
  8. Just you wait until Royal Mail is nationalised, they'll never lose an election again! What makes you believe that there is massive postal vote fraud?
  9. Also I'm reading that the polls are showing that Boris Johnson is in danger of losing his seat according to this poll. Wouldn't that be fking hilarious?
  10. The Conservatives didn't want this poll result as much as you may think. They've got some pretty shaky remainers in their midst, who won't fancy Boris's no deal roller coaster. They might not hold their nose and vote Labour, but they might lend the Lid Dems a vote. It will also galvanise the tactical vote against them for more natural Lib Dem voters and remain Labour voters that have been swayed by the Lib Dems. It reinforces the message in the marginals that have been projected to go from red to blue, 'Vote Lib Dem, get Tories'. There are lots of new voters, and I'm not sure whether the YouGov poll is able to factor in where these registrations are focused. Fck Boris and Momentum have been going to key marginals, knocking on people's doors and getting them to register to vote. Who knows whether that targeting will mean anything. There's still a few weeks left of the campaign. Boris will hide from public view for the rest of it I shall imagine. I'm sure this will give him some momentum.
  11. I think it's regrettable that so many religious leaders are politicising their religion and their followers.
  12. What seemed to work against Newcastle is him starting wide and drifting inside. We can do that now that we have capable full backs . His goal and assist return this season has surprised me. I feel like he's improving each game at the moment. Long may that continue.
  13. Just like to bring this post up. He played as an inside forward last night, and get into central areas more often than not. It seemed to suit him.
  14. I don't understand all the criticism. He should have scored, but I felt he did ok up against 3 centre backs. He held the ball up when he needed and made unselfish runs and worked hard. Are Villa realistically going to have a striker that scores more often than Wesley has so far this season? I don't think so if I am being honest.
  15. What a signing he is. He was the boss..
  16. This is where the Conservatives strategy of flinging the most absurd accusations at Corbyn day after day backfires. It just becomes noise to most people. The latest polls are showing a swing towards Labour.
  17. No, it is obviously an attempt to wrestle some momentum away from the Conservatives on their manifesto day. I'd say it worked to some extent.
  18. The WAPSI policy is perhaps quite clever from Labour. It may help them convert just a few from the older demographic from blue to red. Those sorts of votes are worth double. That along with some potential new voters could be important in key marginals. It's also the right thing to do.
  19. Absolutely not. It was global banking crisis. Triggered by sub prime mortgage defaults in America. The bankers got greedy and lent too much money to too many people who couldn't afford it. Markets crashed very quickly, essentially everyone wanted their money back all at once. But yeh, the Tories made it out as if Labour were responsible. So many people believed them and the media were complict in enforcing the lie. Labour were weak at defending themselves on the issue. The Tories got elected along with the Lib Dems and decided that rather than deal with the real villains in the financial sector, they decided to punish the poor and disabled, and those that rely heavily on the state. The bedroom tax and cuts to disability benefits have been particularly damaging. But really they punished everyone because they have cut funding to schools, police, NHS, libraries, prisons, fire fighting, etc all public services to terminally low levels. Now they're throwing a few crumbs to public services and expect us all to be thankful.
  20. Johnson the lying bastard, tells shocking lies. Is anyone surprised? Johnson says that he won't sell the NHS off, but is happy to lie to everyone and say that he is building 40 new hospitals (he's not, he's planning to upgrade 6) and that he will recruit 50k nurses (he isn't he's 18.5k of those are already employed) and yet we already have an 40k shortfall of nurses He's telling people they will be £500 better off each year because he's going to raise the level at which NI is paid, but that isn't true either. It'll be about £80 per year with an 'ambition' to increase it further. Not £500. He promised on day one of being elected as PM to tackle the social care crisis. His manifesto has absolutely no plan, just a flaky idea about getting cross party consensus (which I find hilarious because they're isn't much consensus on anything because of this hard right Tory government). He's abandoned WASPI woman. He's claimed to end hospital car parking charges, but no, there's no real indication of what this really means (for some people but not all, and how this is decided who knows?). He's refusing to release the results of an investigation into Russian interference into British politcs. Why do you think that is, I wonder? He even said that he knew nothing about the FactCheckUK CCHQ Twitter debacle to try to mislead voters. Lie after lie after lie. Based on the sheer volume of lies that he tells can fair minded Tory voters (there are many) genuinely convince themselves that he won't lead the country into a no deal Brexit because of the arbitrary deadline that he set on a trade deal? He's so arrogant that he believes that he can lie to everyone, including his loyal supporters on very important issues and that there will be no consequence for him or his party. He will literally say anything, if he thinks it what people want to hear, whether it's true or not. He and his like are a cancer on British politcs that need cutting out. The last 9 years have been desperate for so many people, the next 5 will be even worse with him at the helm. Vote him out..
  21. I've just realised that if they were a regular, they might end up having a pint with themselves. I love a time travel paradox, especially in a pub.
  22. There is so much that I like about this idea. What if it was someone who was a regular at the pub from 1995 to 2005? Amazing. I think the biggest tell would be their choice of bar snack. Or the copy of Loaded magazine under their armpit, and the Kappa poppers they would be wearing.
  23. I won't pretend to be a neutral commentator, but the two main parties are about as far away from each other politically than they ever have been in my lifetime. The Conservatives have made a right mess of the country. A different PM means a different government.
  24. They've edited to make it appear as if Johnson was being clapped. What a crock of shite the BBC are now. I don't think it needs scrapping, but they need to be held to account. I'm not sure how though. It is so damaging to democracy, because many people will believe that the BBC are paragons of independent journalism. If ever there were such a thing.
