I'd take a cup win all day long over qualification for Champions League. My eldest daughter is 26 this year and has had a season ticket since she was 5 and has never seen us win anything. There are thousands of supporters like her. 28 years since we last won a trophy so we haven't won a trophy this century.  SHA have won a trophy more recently than us and I have some of them often remind me of that fact.

Champions league qualification doesn't guarantee future success. Far from it. A trophy in the cabinet can never be taken away though and will be something we'll talk about until our last breaths.

    She doesnt remember this?

They say our away form is bad (it isn't that bad really, just average: 9th in the away table), Newcastle will have 1 win in 8 away games as it stands...

We are 8th at the moment. And we’ve played away to the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the home table. We of course are the best

At the moment England is 4th, with Germany, Spain and Italy ahead of us. England need to overtake two of those ahead of us to get the fifth CL spot. There isn’t much that separate the four top nations at the moment, so who knows.

To be honest if Villa get into top 4, I wouldn’t mind if England miss out on the fifth CL spot, since it would mean that ManU, Spurs or Newcastle would miss out. If Villa ended up in fifth place, and England didn’t get the fifth CL spot, I would be really hate ManU, Newcastle and any other underperforming team in Europe that caused us to miss out on CL football.

For the time being I will be cheering on Villa to get into top 4 and ignore how English teams do in Europe.

England are 2nd at the moment on 11.750, behind Germany on 12.642 and ahead of Italy 11.742 and Spain 11.437. All 3 only have 7 teams in Europe due to Osasuna being ko in qualifying round.  Vital for us that United or newc could even get europa

Might be getting a bit carried away but I’m not sure there’s a player in the league I’d swap him for right now. Certainly not any midfielder.

    Douglas luiz? 😝

But the % of revenue we are allowed use for FFP is decreasing.

Under Premier League rules we can run a £100m loss (after exclusions)

Under UEFA rules not only are we not able to run a loss based in squad cost we have to run a profit.

So when you realise the scale of the changes by being in Europe you see why it's getting tougher

So what we actually need to do is trim the wage bill and not have any passengers on it. That and increase Revenue.

It just makes no sense for me to sell Luiz or Martinez to allow the club to progress, some might think thats short sighted but I don't think I've seen better players in their positions in my life following Villa.

We need to make a big player sale in summer to give us spending power. Unless moving on likes of Dendonker, Chambers, Traore and end of Lenglet's loan free's up enough. I think Digne will move on also, hopefully a fee for Sanson. Maybe if Tim goes on loan and impresses we can do a sale with buy back also.

Remember next season we've 80% squad cost cap in Europe, this seas it was 90%. So we've new issues and that will impact our transfer business.

Dont get this, we've sold Chuckwumeka, Philogene, Archer & Ramsey from the academy in the last 15 months for about £55m.

Surely with the extra games in Europe, revenue will be up substantially?

  7. In fairness to Archer I feel like he’s very different to Watkins. Ollie’s weakness is his finishing which can be very hit and miss. A great finish for his first today. Got to be frustrated he didn’t get more of a chance.
