  1. Well, they've shown the LG G2 now and I quite like the look of it. I've been holding off on upgrading from my S2 as I wanted the Nexus 5 (when it is eventually released). This LG phone might just tempt me though... http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/lg-g2-1171025/review
  2. I had a go on a PS4 at SDCC a few weeks ago. I really liked the look of the console itself and pictures don't do it justice. There's only so much you can do with a box but I like it. I was also impressed by the feel of the controller as it seemed to fit my hand better. The grip just feels nicer than the PS3 controller and I would say it's a big step in the right direction. The only thing I didn't like was the games on show. I played Knack, which was pretty fun and looked good for that kind of game. It just didn't show off the power of the console though. I'm sure that will come in time and the PS4 will grow in stature. Anyway, the hands on has reassured me that I made the right choice in pre-ordering the PS4. I can't wait!
  3. I still think Phoenix deserved the Oscar for his performance in 'The Master'.
  4. I wasn't blown away by 'The Wolverine' to be honest. Jackman owns that character but I still get the feeling that they are holding back. I want to see Wolverine at his most violent in an 18 rated film. I wish Aronofsky had stayed on to direct as I think it would have been a much better film. Anyway, I agree that it got weaker as it went on. The ending just went completely mad and felt like it was rushed. Viper was hardly touched upon and the Silver Samurai was used in the wrong way. Then there is the poor acting from everyone other than Jackman. I just wasn't convinced at all by the rest of the cast. I was hoping it would be a standalone film too but the fact that Jean Grey was shoehorned in to connect it to X3 was a complete shambles... Enough of the bashing as there were some good points. Firstly, it was nice to see Logan in a film that showed some of his inner rage and that was also story based. Some of the action scenes were also very good. I was surprised by the train scene as I thought that looked awful in the trailer, yet it turned out to be one of the better action sequences. It was a step up from 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' and it was good to finally see Wolverine in a good film. I just have this feeling that it could have been so much better. The mid credit scene is well worth staying for too.
  5. I'm currently worn out from two days of camping in line for Hall H panels here in San Diego. This is my first ever trip to San Diego Comic Con as I was lucky enough to get a four day pass this year. Hall H was alright yesterday, yet today it just got epic... The reaction to the announcements made today were nothing short of mental. Firstly there was a teaser for 'Godzilla', which seemed very impressive. Then there was the big Superman/Batman crossover reveal which got the place up. That was followed later on by Fox bringing the entire cast of 'X-Men Days of Future Past' out on the stage and showing a trailer. The trailer seemed very good and the cast is rather good. The cast for that included Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), who was on beforehand too in order to show off some more footage from the new Wolverine film. Then came Marvel. Loki came out on stage in full costume to start announcing upcoming Marvel films. We saw new footage from the new Thor and Captain America films. I was very impressed by the footage of both and it seems like the Marvel cinematic universe gets stronger with each new release. The cast of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' were there and there really are some lovely ladies in that film. Then there were two massive reveals. Firstly was the cast of 'Guardians of The Galaxy' coming out on stage. Then we saw an early teaser/trailer (it was a shock considering they've only started filming) and it looks like they've nailed the tone. It's slightly comedic from the footage seen and that lends itself well to such a film. Finally there was the reveal for the title to the new Avengers film. It will be called 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. This is massive as it was a recent storyline in the comics. There were other things too, yet I think I have covered the main announcements. It smashed yesterday in Hall H, although the seeing the cast from the new Spider-Man film and some new footage was a treat. Plus seeing Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright was great. They were one of the highlights for me, in what has been a great SDCC. Shame there is only one more day to go...
  6. 'Pacific Rim' was great fun. Go in expecting a fun monster film and you'll come out happy. Go in expecting an extremely thought provoking film and you'll leave disappointed. It's got the typical del Toro look to it and is very much style over substance. It works though and is a cracker of a monster film. Well worth the wait! Oh and stay until after the credits...
  7. I was really looking forward to 'Only God Forgives', yet the early feedback has been very mixed. 'Drive' has grown to be my favourite film, which is a big thing considering how many films I watch. Refn is a pretty mixed bag though as far as I'm concerned. 'Pusher', 'Bronson' and Valhalla Rising' are all quite good, without being spectacular. I'll judge the film for myself when it comes out but I'm trying to go in with low expectations now. When I saw the first trailer a few months back I was really excited. Now I'm more concerned it might be a bit shit...
  8. Go with one of the entry level Canon DSLR's like the 550D, 600D, 650D or 700D. The first three run Magic Lantern too, which is very good for video. Plus I'm sure it will come to the 700D. I've managed to get some great footage on my 650D.
  9. I've just ordered the Canon 70-300mm IS USM lens for my 650D. That now takes my total up to three lenses. I've already got the Canon 50mm (f1.4) and Canon 18-135 STM lens too. Now, I think that should give me plenty of options. Are there any other lenses you would recommend though?
  10. I'm a massive fan of del Toro myself and have been looking forward to seeing 'Pacific Rim' since it was first announced. I still think it was a shame that he didn't stick with 'The Hobbit' but oh well. Hopefully 'Pacific Rim' will do well and will force the studio into greenlighting 'Hellboy 3' and 'At the Mountains of Madness'. By the way, they are giving out prints at some IMAX first showings. I'm in work so can't link to it, yet it's very nice! I can't bloody wait!
  11. Very good film. I saw it when it was out at the cinema and came out just blown away. On the Cineworld ticket front, it's a shame they don't do that in the Odeon. I go to the cinema at least four times a month and could really do with something like that Cineworld pass. It keeps getting more expensive as time goes by. Speaking of trips to the cinema, I went to see 'Much Ado About Nothing' today. I really enjoued it and would say it's probably the best Shakespeare has ever been done on a big screen. The whole thing was simple in the way it was put together, yet it was also very effective.Iwould certainly recommend it if you're a fan of Shakespeare, or if you would like a good rom-com (with Shakespeare dailogue).
  12. I saw 'Man Of Steel' earlier today in the IMAX and thought it was very enjoyable. Sure, bits of it are a bit messy and it's all a little too serious at times, yet it's still very entertaining. The effects were great at times and some of the flying scenes were done so well. It's Snyder's best film in my opinion.
  13. No, you can get free delivery, as with most items on Amazon. You only pay if you want it faster, such as on release day. It just takes 3-5 working days (if I remember correctly) for free delivery. I would just go for free delivery as there is no need to have it exactly on launch day...
  14. I've preordered on Amazon too. Figured I would do it now incase the price goes up slightly, being that they always use the price guarantee. I will get the lowest price if it goes down too so figured it was worth it. Can't wait!
  15. The whole DRM thing is a pain and I'm sure Sony will do something similar. However, I'm not convinced they'll enforce the same online features that Microsoft are. I also don't think Sony will try to push the TV aspects as much as Microsoft. I've got Sky and couldn't really care about the streaming services Microsoft offer... I'm already sold on the PS4. It just seems like the better gaming console and I'm sure it will have the better exclusives, although we'll know more when things start to come in from E3. It's a shame as I splashed out on both consoles this gen. However, I'll be going PS4 and PC (sticking with my current one) for the next gen.
  16. I really like both. Brussels is more lively and much bigger. Bruges is smaller and more scenic.
  17. I'm flying to the States with US Airways (now merged with AA) later this year. Anyone know if they're alright?
  18. Just go and see 'Iron Man 3'. It's far from being perfect, yet is an entertaining film.
  19. Just back from seeing 'The Look of Love'. It's a decent period piece that has some good acting in it. The film overall just seemed a bit disjointed though, which was probably down to the approach. It's pretty much a biopic of Paul Raymond that delves into his dealings in the adult entertainment industry and relationship with his daughter. I particularly liked the take on the father-daughter relationship and thought the film was at its strongest when dealing with that aspect of things. The whole adult entertainment side of things was a little fragmented though and I think it took me away from the characters. There are plenty of boobs on display though, plus the absolutely stunning Imogen Poots and Tamsin Egerton make it a treat for the eyes...
  20. I went to see 'Iron Man 3' at the IMAX earlier. I hate it when they only show the 3D version on the IMAX screen as I'm not a fan of 3D. As expected, I really don't think the 3D added anything to the film. The screen on the other hand made it fantastic. I still think the IMAX screen is the best for viewing any film on as the picture is so big and the sound is great. Anyway, I enjoyed the film overall. Marvel took a risk with this one as it took the comedy elements a bit too far at times. I think they just about nailed it though and the film as a whole seemed to go by fast, which is good considering it's just over two hours long. I personally think it was much better than the second Iron Man film and perhaps even slightly better than the first. It had more of an 'Avengers Assemble' feel to it and I would certainly say it's worth a watch. Good entertainment from start to finish, despite not being perfect. I'm even more excited now for this second phase of Avengers films. By the way, I wouldn't bother staying for the post credits scene as it really isn't that great...
  21. Bloody great news that Bishop will be in it. Has Cable been announced yet? I haven't seen him confirmed but surely he'll be in it at some point... Off to see 'Iron Man 3' at the IMAX tomorrow night and I can't bloody wait. 'Star Trek' and 'Superman' are both booked for the IMAX too. Great time to be a comic/sci-if fan.
  22. Do you really think they will drop below £300? I can't see it being below £400 to be honest. On another note, I personally think it's too big. The Note is the maximum size I would go to as I have a tablet if I want an even bigger screen...
  23. Just back from seeing 'The Place Beyond The Pines' and I'm feeling a bit unsure about the whole film as it's a bit of a mixed bag. The whole thing is quite an epic story to take on and it is done well for the first half of the film. However, I just felt it began to drag in the second half. Gosling was great in the first part of the film (as expected) and Cooper was also very good. It's worth seeing but I was expecting more from this one. I've also been to see 'Trance' and 'Spring Breakers' recently. I enjoyed 'Trance' and it has a typical Boyle look to it. The story thinks it's more complicated than it actually is, although the twist is a good one. 'Spring Breakers' was just one big mess. It was nice looking but was like one big long music video. Franco was good as the gangster in it though and it's always nice to see Disney girls gone bad...
  24. The Galaxy S4 is a better phone than the Nexus 4 though in my opinion and based on what I would use it for (and like). Bigger screen (which I prefer), better camera, 4G capability (incase I decide to go with a 4G deal down the line), expandable internal storage and a faster phone. Those are all important to me, although the fact I would be paying almost double for those things is something I will have to seriously take into consideration. and that's before you factor in the mid-contract price hike which has become the norm. I'm sure you can arrange the credit cheaper yourself if you don't have the cash. Perhaps an interest free credit card? That might actually be a good way to do it so I'll look into that. Cheers for the advice.
  25. I figured that would probably be the case with the 500MB not being enough for 4G and I'm not really convinced that I would really need the faster internet anyway to be honest. I know what you mean about 24 month contracts being madness as I would prefer to upgrade every 12 months. I could buy the phone outright and go through Giffgaff. although apparently the phone will be around £597 SIM-free (from ASDA). That's bloody expensive, even though it would work out cheaper over a 24 month period than any of the contracts available. Just the initial outlay...
