  1. That's total bollocks I'm afraid the squad has had an excellent pre-season and was playing really well. It was looking like we were going to beat Wigan easily and perhaps that was the problem. After dispatching top Italian sides the players got over confident and that is why MON dragged them back in for a bollocking. I assume there for when you say 'preparations' you are only really talking about transfers again... Which again is a total red-herring our starting 11 against Wigan should have been easily good enough to see them off especially at home. We have made 2 excellent signings so far in this transfer window in Downing and Delph and I'm sure we will see a defender come in to take the vacant number 5 shirt. Get a grip folks. We have lost the first game of the season and the over reaction on this site is totally hysterical.
  2. Not in a million years. I would rather see us playing in the Conference.
  3. We have no chance of RSC he will go to Man City for silly money £20 million plus prob. I would like Heskey we would have done much better tonight against Hamburg with him rather than Headless Harewood. But we really need some more midfielders too, as if we lose Petrov of Barry we are stuffed. Plus another defender as Knight looks really average.
  4. General, thanks for your advice regarding the Aston Villa MBNA credit card. I appreciate your honesty and I am grateful that Villa is run by people whose word can be relied upon.
  5. Aston Villa Credit Card. General i have just received information regarding the new Aston Villa Mastercard. I was wondering if you or Randy had any input into this as it is an MBNA card. Is it a good deal? Cheers.
  6. Mods I realise we are not meant to get into a discussion on this thread with other posters... so don't do it then, please and don't tell other posters to "grow up". Thanks, Blandy
  7. General. As I life long Villa fan I am prouder now to wear the shirt than ever, and not just because of MON's great work with the team but also how the club is being run in broader terms. It is amazing that overseas investors can be so in tune with the local community and care so much about it. The Acorns sponsorship being a prime example. I hope you can turn a blind eye to some of the hot headed and crass comments directed your way over recent days. Your responses have been very reserved and considered (quite a reversal of National Stereotypes :winkold: ) . I can tell it is starting to get to you and I hope the other fans will sense this and amend their attitudes. Now to my question: With Barry showing such lack of respect for the club, the chairman and the manager and instead listening to his self serving agent can we take some steps to deal with this differently from now on. What I mean by this is, that MON seems to have to be spending a lot of time thinking and dealing with this situation only to have his time wasted by the player and his agent. Can MON be taken out of the whole Barry saga, not because he has handled it badly, he has done everything right, but so he can spend he time doing positive things with the team and looking for new signings etc. Can someone else be left to deal with Liverpool or to find another Champions League club to sell him to? He does not deserve MON or Randy's time anymore. Also can his agent be banned from the club once this sorry state of affairs if over with and and as I have said in a previous post can any players we have that are represented by him be forced into changing their agents as this man has no moral substance.
  8. The reason that I am hopeful that we will break the top four if MON remains in charge is exactly because of his transfer dealings. He is building a team not just a collection of players. Rednapp has some limited cup success by adding more famous players who can turn it on for a cup run, but he has admitted that they will never challenge the big four. MON on the other hand believes he can, and I can see why, he saw what he did a Leicester with no money and with a small club now he can try and emulate and do better at Villa with more money and a bigger fan base. It is just a shame that, that the bigger fan base cannot see the bigger picture. To break the top 4 we need to do things differently from them, we cannot compete for the same players as they do because they offer the Champions League, so although Newcastle , Portsmouth and Tottenham will go for the more famous players they are not big players as they are not wanted by the top 4. We have to try and go under the radar and win through hard work and team spirit as the big players will go to the big teams. We have to break in their by being original and different and very competitive and that is why MON will break the top 4 and Portsmouth, Spurs, Newcastle will not. It is no surprise that Everton and Villa are the closest challenges because there are a lot of similarities between Moyes and MON both are team builders not interested in making back page headlines through glamour signings, but more interested in building a team and coaching a team spirit. I cannnot remember looking forward to watching the Villa more than I did last season, and I have been a supporter for over 20 years. I would much rather that than just some token glamour signings. MON knows football better than any of us, he will have a team ready to compete by the time battle commences of that I have no doubt.
  9. I am happy we have a great Manager and chairman and I have been very pleased with the signings so far. I think the young and old american keeper combination is a stroke of genius. I am sure their will be more to follow. MON and the team make me proud to be a Villa fan, the fickle fans and Barry less so.
  10. General, Firstly I would just like to state that you have my total respect for continuing to post your thoughtful and detailed responses on this site despite the fact that some are not actually asking questions but making childish and unfounded personal attacks on yourself and others at the club. I don't think I could be as gracious. Secondly, I think a lot of this frustration has all come out of the Barry turnaround and it is pretty obvious it was his turnaround not the club's. However I am concerned that his agent (correct me if I am wrong) does represent other players at the club. (Barry Bannan perhaps?) Would it not be a good idea to ban this agent from the club and insist that none of our players are represented by him as he seems to be the one who has convinced Barry to go against the deadline deal. Finally, as for the other transfer talk, talk is all it is and I for one would rather have a club in Europe than one that splashes the cash and shows no standards in terms of the players they acquire (e.g. Newcastle). However, I like the rest of us on here only has an outsider's view on how transfer dealings actually work, it would though seem that we are not doing the groundwork on deals fast enough before the window opens and appear to wait for it to open before making the first moves for players. Would it not be better to signal our intentions early in the window so by bringing in one or two very good players early on, it would signal to other targets later in the window that we are indeed a club on the up. Is this just an outsider's view general or do you think there is anything truth in this? Thanks for your work for the club general, and I really do think we have the best men in place to do great things at Villa. - Jim
  11. General: Re: Club Online Shop I was wondering if the Online Club Shop is going to get an overhaul? The reason I ask is that the stock seems to change from one day to the next. It also never states if an item is simply out of stock of has been discontinued, or if it will be coming back into stock. I personally check it quite often and the stock changes around a lot. You may well disagree but i don't think this is a good business approach as the customers, including myself do not get any idea of the range of items stocked. If you compare it to a very successful online operation like Amazon, they always state if an item is out of stock and when it will be back in stock etc. Plus they display items that are coming soon. For example I was looking to get a Club Tie and some training wear, but the club tie appears to no longer be stocked, does this mean it has been discontinued or just out of stock? Also there are very few items available in the Nike training range. I realise you are probably unable to get into the detail here, but I did want to draw your attention to a missed opportunity here. The online shop is where the club can reach out to fans around the country and the world and I don't feel it is really being exploited to its full potential. Thanks for your time, and best wishes for the season run-in. -Jim
  12. RE: Your Gold comment General i would just like to say, that I hope the tabloid response to your BCFC comment does not put you off being yourself in future on this forum. I am sure I speak for many on this forum when I say that your straightforwardness and honesty has been a refreshing part of the Ason Villa revolution under Randy and MON, and hope you continue to play the role you have been playing. It is has been fantastic for us to be able to communicate with you and I appreciate your candour. I hope you feel that you can continue to do this in the way you have been. I really appreciate and enjoy reading your comments and I hope this continues. In short, don't let the bastards grind you down. Especially one little filth selling bastard with a Napoleon complex.
  13. Thanks for the reply re: scouting and youth academy. (1) The youth system sounds very good from what you say and what I have read elsewhere, which is promising for the future of the club. (2) As for the scouting system I was wondering if we have scouts permanently based around the world? This is what Arsene Wenger once stated about his scouting system: "By having scouts in every country which has good potential to develop football players of top quality and by being in touch with them always, having a lot of assessments and working very hard. Our scouts are highly motivated, there are a lot of people inside the clubs who don't get the praise but our scouting team is absolutely fantastic. We choose quality people all over Europe and all over the world. I wanted that system and put it together as soon as I arrived, with [Chief Scout] Steve Rowley because I felt that the continuity inside the club depends on the level you have with your young players." I am sure MON has his own ideas about how he wants to set-up and develop his scouting system and I really don't know how ours compares. But I do hope we have or are looking to base scouts around the world, it would seem a small cost when compared to the price of signing players. (3) Do we have any plans on developing more feeder clubs around the world. Am I right in thinking we have a link-up with Walsall at present? Do we have plans to spread this further afield? To some of the hot-spots of football talent such as Holland? Or perhaps with your own and Randy's links to the USA? thanks again. Jim
  14. Hi General. Thanks for your continued presence on this site and it shows the club's commitment to developing direct communication with the fans. I was wondering if the club is planning on developing its scouting network over the next few years? Looking around the Premiership Arsenal seem to have the best scouting network and I know that Wenger sees their role at the club as being very key to the club's whole ethos. He even has them all flown back from around the world if the club reaches a cup final which I think is great. Looking at the prices that we are allegedly being quoted for home grown talent it makes sense to me to cast the net as wide as possible. How many scouts do we employ at present? Is this number increasing? Also with the new training facilities what is the set up at our Academy currently like? I believe it is important to educate the whole player not just their football education as if they do not make it they have academic qualifications to fall back on, and if they do they are more rounded people, and better players as a result. Do we provide academic education for our youngsters? Is there any planned future investment in the academy system? Thanks for your time.
  15. General are you familar with Dashboard Widgets? If not check out this link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/ I am sure a man of the world like yourself is using an Apple Mac not some God awful PC! - My point here General is that both Mac (Yeah!) and PC (Boo!) have their own widgets engines whereby users can get quick access to radio/news etc direct to their computer desktops. A lot of sports teams including many British football clubs have developed their own Widgets to keep their fans informed of news in an easy and bitesize way. Do you know if Aston Villa have thought about doing so? And if possible could you ask the person concerned if they could create one? Cheers. James
  16. I totally agree with your sentiments here General. I would just like to say that you have been very diplomatic over all of this. As a loyal Villa fan for over 20 years I am quite frankly disgusted with the childlike and fickle attitude of some of my fellow fans. MON, Randy the General and everyone at the club are clearly pulling very hard to drag Aston Villa up from mediocrity, where we have been for as long as I can remember. We should as fans be pulling in the same direction. I am not suggesting blind loyalty but I think we should all show respect for the hard work that is being done. Just because we want the cream of Europe's footballing talent it doesn't mean they will want us, and the famous fickleness of many Villa fans is not helping us improve our desirability. There are a lot of fans on here and other sites undoing a lot of the positives. If I was a player I would be checking the fansites of any club I was considering joining and if I read what is on this site I would certainly think twice. Pity. Keep up the good work General and don't think we are all as fickle as some.
  17. Does the General know if the club is planning to do any endorsements next season? I am particuarlly thinking about video games such as the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise, as I believe this is very popular with "the kidz" and at the moment we are not endorsed as a club on there, unlike for example Manchester United and Arsenal who do have their correct kits etc. As we will be launching a new kit and trying I am sure to spread the brand to the far east etc I am sure little things like this can only help. Cheers. P.S. Good luck with the signings! (Can we have Wesley Sneider please Santa? )
  18. He does not have a choice if someone offers 9m. as if they are not in europe which they won't be he can go for that. i would snap him up for that. if we can pay 9m for young (which i think is good business btw - despite what fat andy gray thinks). But to get back to my point- Owen is not a gamble at 9m - he is proven and would be great playing with john carew - he'd get 25 goals for us i am sure. i too think Owen is one of the world's most underated players. it no longer seems fashionable to 'just be a goal scorer' - well last time i checked is that not quite fundamental to the principles of the game?! so it short - if Owen would like to leave a little club like Newcastle and come to a big one like villa then i'd be putting his number on my shirt in a flash!
  19. I must admit that i am very impressed how often you communicate via this site General. It certainly makes me (and I would guess many others) feel more a part of the football club. Keep up the good work. I have read some very good ideas here from other fans and I would just like to add a couple of very small (and perhaps insignificant!) ones: (1) You have mentioned about the club website being updated/changed (if i have understood correctly). Would it be possible to build a new one from the ground up so to speak? As ours seems to be based on a template used it has to be said by many "smaller" teams. I also do not much like the big premium tv banner that pops up first. In fairness the content is updated far more regually these days (or perhaps i am just checking it more often?!) But it is not a very 'clean' site compared to say the Man Utd site. (Which I only checked for researching this blog; before I get accussed of disloyalty!) (2) This point may appear rather small fry. But as a keen purveyor of football games i notice that the most repected of these: Pro Evolution Soccer, does not have an Aston Villa License. It does not have one for many Prem clubs to be fair. But it does for Manchester Utd and Arsenal. As these games are played around the world (USA and Japan in particular) i feel that an Aston Villa license would help to raise our profile worldwide. (Plus it would be more fun for me!) Any ideas on why only certain clubs grant licenses for such products and if we have any plans to give ours to the developers? Thanks again for your continued efforts. - Jim
