  1. It's funny how often fans level the 'playing players out of position' accusation at the manager.

Every fan forum I read has posters making this claim about their manager.

Playing Sylla where he was on Monday, was out of position. Sitting high up in the away end I could not figure out what the hell our formation was. It was like a 4 -3-1LM 2. Sylla is good at tackling and passing the ball on to the likes of Westwood and Delph, what he's not good at is trying to thread balls through to Benteke.

I won't get in to a debate where one pretends to be a better football manager than another. What I will say is the hawthorns doesn't have a 'high up'!

But the fact that we were so poor until we changed from our starting formation means that you don't have to be a 'football manager' to come to the conclusion that SIT has.

I don't get too hung up on formations either. I don't know what ratio of importance should be placed on the formation versus how the individual players perform on the day. Also, I've no doubt a football manager thinks certain formations suit certain opponents but whether the players carry that out correctly is another matter.

Ahhhh....even wallowing around in their 'stands' is high up ....remember ?? Highest ground in England and all that ? :)

Probably the boggies best claim to fame.

  4. Best bit was Webber and Alonso completely blanking Vettel at the end leaving him to make small talk with Horner.

You missed Webber and Vettel chatting at another point and Webber's appreciation at Vettel's insistence that Webber was interviewed first in his last F1 race, instead of the traditional race winner? No one is claiming Webber's sour grapes don't linger a little but I don't think a few seconds 'small talk' with his own team principal had Vettel too worried!

Honestly, some need to get over Vettel's poor judgement over the 'multi 21' instruction in one race, 18 races ago! Either that or remember Webber was chiefly to blame in taking out Vettel in Turkey 2010.

Maybe you didn't see the bit I was referring to.

Vettel and Horner were stood waiting, Alonso too. Webber was walking over and I'm sure the Vettel and Horner expected him to go over to them. Instead he completely blanked them and started having a good chat with Alonso leaving Vettel to do the awkward interuption thing as he could see he looked a bit left out.

I don't recall writing anything at all about 'Multi 21' or an incident 3 years ago. Looks like we've got a bit of a Vettel fanboi here.

I did see what you were referring to, just didn't see it as any kind of incident better than than the race which had a decent amount going on. If I were Webber, I think I'd have chose an old friend to chat to instead of a now ex-team mate who kept beating me, especially knowing he already had another team mate to talk to. :)

I didn't claim you mentioned multi 21 or the crash in Turkey, hence my use of 'some' and not 'you'. My comment was in regard to those who moan about a driver seemingly because he keeps winning (hardly a fault), or hang on to a judgement error when nearly all drivers (Webber included) have dropped a bollock or three in their time. No 'fanboi' though, just know talent when I see it.;)

  6. I've never gotten the appeal of a VW camper van, it's ugly and a Volkswagen.

    They're awesome and they're Volkswagen . that's the appeal.

I can see the appeal of being able to see some sights on the cheap and having sex on the road in relative comfort but, beyond those two albeit attractive traits, not as cool as people imagine.

  7. People of veering degrees of fame who I have met and my opinion of them:

Jason McAteer - top lad, bought loads of rounds one St Patrick's day in Wigan

David Dunn - absolute prize bell end, used to work with his sister in law and met him a couple of times

Chris Eubank - have met him twice now in our London office, a more genuinely nice, down to earth bloke you couldn't wish to meet. Still built like an absolute brick outhouse as well.

Paul Heaton - drank in the boozer in Hull around the corner from where my mate lived at Uni, nice bloke, and while he was in the Housemartins was a hero of mine.

Chris Eubank, down to earth, really? What with his tweed suits, riding whip and monocle?

I met Eubank on a quiet off-peak train leaving Euston to Birmingham about ten years ago. I saw him leave the adjacent first class carage and he sat diagonally opposite me in standard class. We chatted a little about nothing in particular, his voice unmistakably Eubank. He certainly seemed down to earth, albeit wearing his trademark suit and clutching an expensive looking document wallet. When the train manager asked to see our tickets he told Eubank he was entitled to sit in first class. Eubank replied he was happy where he was.

  8. I have been on holiday with Steve Staunton

I approved a loan of £20.000 for Mark Bosnich a matter of weeks before a series of newpaper stories came out about him

    I lost Peter Kayes car

Bozzy? £20k wouldn't last him long.

  9. I was at university with Russell Tovey (Actor from Him & Her, Gavin & Stacey, The History Boys, Being Human etc). I went to school with Darius Vassell.I have interviewed World Cup Winner, Jack Charlton, while working at a radio station.

    Vassell

    Vassell was also my guess.

    I dropped Avi Glazer's tuna

I have been Alex Ferguson's personal tea boy

I disappointed Sir Bobby Robson by failing to give him cheese and crackers

    Tea boy?

  10. Regards Davro, he has admitted being a swinger, so no surprise in not leaving him alone in a room with women.

I once sat in a meeting with Uri Geller. The paranormal magazine I was designer off was in talks to be endorsed by home. Nice guy but total showman.

There is a fine line between showman and conman.

He conned so many for many years and when he became 'old news', he made more money by revealing his secrets (slight of hand for spoon bending, movement of stopped watches will cause a few to re-start for a short while, etceteras). Then, a few years later, he comes back under his original guise, as if he'd never revealed it was all a sham, and people lap it all up AGAIN! Astonishing.

  11. They don't have personalites, as such, merely impersonations of human behaviour and emotion as the result of highly complex coding by sinister Illuminati type organisations that push these vapid humanoids on us, in order to advertise films, music or books for us to consume, and to propagate unrealistic ideals for us strive for via gym memberships, beauty products, cosmetic surgery and endless personality adjustments or repressions, so that we in turn become more like the vapid humanoids than actual humans, and the humanoids become more humanoid, until everyone is merely an impression of what they think a human should be, a state which is ultimately what the sinister illumanti type organisations want because they can manipulate our beliefs as to what a human should be in order to sell a new range of products etc.

    If you've lost all yours CED, you can use some of mine - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

  12. I suspect there are a few who many think are great but they are actually not that nice at all, but more who many think are tw@ts who are actually decent people. In the latter catergory I'm going to guess at James Corden and Ricky Gervais.

Yeah I think Corden has to be alright. But then Patrick Stewart seems to hate him, but does that mean Picard is an arsehole?
I think Patrick Stewart came off worse after his petty rant.

James Corden has made a name for himself as "the fat guy off the TV" though

Corden's about as funny as a kick in the nuts. A one trick pony who got lucky with criminally overrated Gavin and Stacey.

That sketch show he did with the equally unfunny Mathew Horne was an absolute abomination, as was those repulsive skits he did with the England football squad.

For those reasons alone he should never be seen on TV again.

I didn't enjoy his sketch material but I did enjoy Gavin and Stacey and the refreshingly different The Wrong Mans; each to their own. Whether he should never be seen on TV again, I'll leave to others. I'll give most things a go, trying to avoid preconception. I also don't begrudge those who may or may not have 'got lucky'.

JC is hardly the thespian PS is but I think he has written some decent stuff. In any case, I think JC is way behind dozens of others if 'talentless' is the accusation.

It seems common for people to almost hate so-called celebrities they don't enjoy. I'm not sure they are worth such a strong emotion; best to ignore said celebrity and get on with life.

  15. Tonev, like every other player we have ever signed, needs to be given time, and to judge him now is too premature, no-one has any idea how he will turn out.

I've seen this type of comment countless times reading this thread. do any of you who have written something like that realise just how ridiculous you sound? if we aren't supposed to discuss our opinions on him till he's had more time, then what do you want this thread to contain? should it just be locked for 2 years in case anyone forms some sort of opinion on him after a match and wants to air it?

It's not about not discussing a player, just that saying a player is terrible, will never make it, is one of the worst they have ever seen (or conversely 'world class'), based on way less than a half season, is premature and serves little purpose. If they guessed right - well bully for them but we are worse for having a poor player. If they guessed wrong (Benteke for some!) - they face ridicule. It is easy to comment on a players performance without needing to extrapolate it almost instantly to an extreme.

Unfortunately many football forum users come across as wannabe football managers or game console addicts; all with added hindsight, of course.

    good answer

I understand people give extreme opinions prematurely. however, using myself as an example, I stated that he hadn't shown anything to suggest that he would become a decent player for us after 3 sub games. that is because he hadn't. I wasn't writing him off, he just hadn't impressed me at all at the time. I think part of the issue is people read opinions wrong

You are right. It is easy for some to be defensive over a player being criticised when they have genuinely been in poor recent form. I guess that's them extrapolating a perhaps valid criticism into totally panning a player. I forgive some of that though as it can be like someone slating 'family'!

  17. Sat fairly central in the Holte End I heard a bit of booing. I say 'a bit' because I could have made as much noise on my own. Putting aside the slightly dissatisfied mutterers (I don't class them as booers), I'd be surprised if there were more than a couple of dozen actually booing. When I turned to looked back up the Holte, I could see hundreds of faces, none of them booing. I guess it's a sound that caries well. At less than 0.1% of the attendence, it is annoying that such a low proportion of the crowd can grab some headlines as it feels like focusing on the number of Monster Raving Loony Party votes after a general election result.

  18. I'm sure plenty of fans wish our club had more money to spend. That they continue to go to matches and don't mention much concern on internet forums doesn't necessarily reflect they don't 'have any problems'. If there is no alternative currently available, perhaps they see little point in voicing concern.
